This was in our church bulletin last year sometime. I’ve had it hanging on my bulletin board since then. You may wish to make note of these “hearing aids” to help you get more from your Pastor’s message.
Listen –
Reverently – Habakkuk 2:20
But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
Expectantly – Psalm 62:5
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
Prayerfully – 1 Samuel 3:10
And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for they servant heareth.
Attentively – Acts 15:12
Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.
Understandingly – Nehemiah 8:8
So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.
Discerningly – Acts 17:11
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Obediently – Matthew 7:24-27
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And everyone one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the ran descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
