As part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew, I received online access to IXL for my children.
IXL is a practice environment that rewards hard work—after all, with dynamic, unlimited questions, guessing your way to success isn’t exactly an option. Instead, we encourage students to learn from their mistakes, and move through new challenges at their own pace. There’s no feeling that can match mastering a skill on IXL, since it comes with the satisfaction of knowing you really do “get it.”
IXL.com is web based math practice for Pre-K through Algebra. You can use IXL with any math curriculum for extra practice. IXL also tracks your students progress and displays proficiency scores in the state standards report. You can see what the state standards for your state, and where your child is at. This helps you find your child’s trouble spots so they can work on them.
There are numerous reports that you can use to track your child’s progress. I found the weekly emails telling me how long the kids worked and what they worked on, and what they needed to work on, very helpful. I can also log into my parent account to see the rest of the reports.
Abigail, finishing 7th grade said: “I liked the line -line segment and the ray. Working on IXL helped me in my regular math book.”
Zach, finishing 5th grade, said: “I liked getting the certificates.”
The extra algebra practice for my highschoolers is great, too. And more advanced topics will be available soon.
When the kids finished a certain number of problems, starting with one hundred, I received an email saying they had a certificate available to print. Zach was so excited when he received these. The virtual awards and the printable certificates really gave him an incentive to work longer.
Here are a few IXL screen samples:
The pages are bright, colorful, and easy to use. Yet the pages are simple, not busy, so the child is not distracted by graphics on the page that aren’t involved in the questions.
