Making a Home – Homemaking Linky

While cutting onions for soup, I also cut enough for Monday’s Turkey a’la Mama and tonight’s pizza. When you cook most everything from scratch, having pre-cut onions is a convenience food for me. In the past, I have diced a whole bag of onions at once, and frozen them. I need to get back to that.  So much easier than cutting onions for every meal.

I like to store the onions in a glass jar in the fridge. Storing them in a plastic container makes it smell like onions for a very long time. lol

On Sunday, I made a sour dough chocolate cake. It came highly recommended, so I thought I’d try it. It was good! The whole family liked it. Well, my 12 year old son didn’t like it very much the first day. When he tried it again the next day he said, “This tastes better than last night.” And ate his whole piece. lol It’s definitely a cake I’ll make again.

  2. Pre-cutting veggies, including onions, really is a tremendous time-saver. I can pre-cut a week’s worth of veggies and put them into containers and they’ll stay fresh for about a week—makes it a cinch to throw together a stir-fry at the last minute, too. I seem to have a hard time getting myself to spend the time doing it…I wonder why?

  3. Pre-cutting onions and storing them in a glass jar in the fridge is brilliant.

    I’m usually pretty good and chopping and freezing them, but that isn’t quite as convenient.

  4. With onions, I find that I have to cover with plastic wrap and then put a lid or tinfoil on that or the smell really does take over the fridge/freezer.

    Oh, well. It covers up the smell of the chopped green peppers…. :)
