This week, our major project was building a rabbit hutch. I got the idea for building it from watching this video, Self-Sufficiency: Part One, it’s a very interesting tour of this guys property. He showed these rabbit hutches, and it’s just what we needed.
This is our new rabbit hutch in our backyard. That’s a hinged door on top. So we can fold back half of it, for access to the rabbits.
We will be covering the door in plastic to protect it from the weather. We still might paint the wood. Beast, the large male on the left, was chewing the wood shortly after being moved into his new home. We’ll have to wait and see if he stops, Hopefully, he does, or he really will be eating himself out of house and home!
We have chicken wire on the sides, and wire with small square openings in it, I don’t know what it’s called, on the bottom. We can rake the droppings out from under the bottom, and put them in the compost pile. Here’s a view from the top.
All the rabbits seem to really like their new home. These are pet rabbits. We would like to get fiber rabbits, though. I have been out voted on meat rabbits.
Ok, it’s time for the Saturday on the Farm Carnival!

Those are nice looking hutches! Could you maybe try poultry wire on the inside of the wood?

Dana – We will put some chicken wire over the wood if he keeps chewing on it. DH said when the bark is off the wood, the rabbit will stop chewing on it. So we're taking a wait and see approach.
Cheryl – Yes, I will be doing Saturday on the Farm link ups every Saturday. Please do come back next week and join us.

Hi Linda, I enjoyed your blog a lot. I linked to a blog post that I wrote about our goats, but I'm not sure how to link back to you.
We are a homesteading family with seven children. Nice to meet you.
