The Queen’s Handmaid – Book Review & Kindle Giveaway
The person closest to Lydia is her mentor, Samuel. She has been around him in the palace since she was very little. Over the years, he has taught her much about the Torah. When he dies, he entrusts her with secret scrolls written by the prophet Daniel and charges her to deliver the scrolls to those watching for the promised King of Israel. He also gives her a necklace that he said belonged to her mother. Except he dies before he can tell her anything about her.
Lydia must no leave the nearest thing she’s had to a family and flee to Jerusalem. Herod had visited Cleopatra and had told Lydia that he would like her to come be his wife’s handmaid. Lydia escapes the palace and sets sail with Herod before Cleopatra finds out she is gone.
Lydia has an instant friendship with Queen Mariamme. But not with Herod’s sister and mother. Lydia does her best to please Queen Mariamme while keeping the scrolls hidden in the palace. She tries every year to find the certain priest that she is supposed to give the scrolls to.
There are some very dark, evil forces in the palace that try to keep Lydia from fulfilling her destiny. Lydia finally confides in Queen Mariamme about the necklace that was her mothers. The Queen finds out more information about the necklace and Lydia’s parents. Lydia is very pleased to find out more about her family. But now the dark forces are intent on killing Lydia. In the end, Lydia is finally able to get away from those that are trying to kill her and deliver the scrolls before the enemy can destroy them.
I really enjoyed reading The Queen’s Handmaid. I loved how the author showed Lydia’s transformation from lowly servant to someone who knows God and who she is in Him. The Queen’s Handmaid is full of history, royal intrigue, faith, and the battle between good and evil.
