Too Many Graduations

Back in the day, hahaha, when I was in school, there where only 2 graduations by the time you finished 12th grade. Kindergarten and high school.

Many kids go to Pre-School now and have a graduation before they even go to Kindergarten. Complete with caps and gowns.

I think kindergarten graduation started because kindergartens were privately owned when they first started. When public schools started offering kindergarten, they kept the graduation. That’s my theory, anyway.

Too Many Graduations - When did changing school buildings become full cap and gown graduation worthy?

Too Many Graduations

I’m not sure when middle school graduation started. I didn’t go to middle school. We went to Junior High, and had no graduation. That was back when elementary school went to 6th grade, and Junior High was 7th & 8th grades. Somewhere along the line middle school graduation started.

That brings us to pre-school, kindergarten, middle school, and high school graduations.

Today, I saw lots of pictures on Facebook of kids graduating from elementary school. Seriously, 5th graders in caps and gowns having a graduation.

That is just too much. Graduation was something special. Something you had to work hard to achieve. Not everyone finished high school. Even fewer graduated from college. Wearing a cap and gown meant something. Graduation was a great achievement.

Now? When kids graduate high school, they could be wearing a cap and gown for the 5th time. The fifth time. It’s not special anymore. It’s not a great achievement. When did changing school buildings become full cap and gown graduation worthy?

What do you think? Are there too many graduations now?
