Well, the Olympics are over. Makes me sad. In a way, I’m glad. I’m happy to get back on our regular schedule. But I really do enjoy watching the Olympics, and talking with the kids about the sports, and the different countries. We still have to put the final touches on their Olympic scrapbooks. Not scrapbooks per se, but the papers that they did in page protectors in a notebook. We also need to work in their Olympics. Races and such, where they win medals that we made. We might wait until Sunday for that, though.
At first, Melissa wasn’t thrilled with the idea of a two page typewritten report on Greece, but she came around. lol She learned a lot, and like learning about the people and culture. She found some Greek music to listen to, and saw a couple of Greek dances. Once she started researching Greece, she stopped complaining about having to do the report. 🙂
All the Greek food that we tried was liked by everyone, with the exception of the cucumber yogurt sauce. I thought it was good, but most of the kids didn’t like it. And I don’t even like yogurt! The favorite was the baklava, which they now want to make on a regular basis. As I was putting the chicken in the oven for supper last night, I had a request for the Greek Lemon Chicken that we had made. So that will be appearing on the menu regularly. All in all, I have to say that we had a successful Olympic Unit Study.

Yesterday, we went to enter our stuff in the county fair. Here’s what we entered:

Linda: brownies!

Melissa: an oil painting

Calen: shorts with pockets, and initial pillows, C P

Hannah: a skirt, a lace poncho, and initial pillows, H P

This is our first year entering the county fair, since moving to this county. We plan on entering more stuff next year. I think when we take the month of July off from school work, next year, we might take the time to make stuff for the fair.

While we were there yesterday, we found out the Calen won a 2nd place Red Ribbon for his shorts at the state fair!! How exciting! He was THRILLED!!!! So was I! lol Now he’s checking the mailbox every 5 minutes (even after the mail has already come for the day!) to see if his check is there! lol I’m not sure how much he’ll get, but I don’t think the amount is important right now. He’s just excited that he’s getting a check! lol So G~! That’s the info you didn’t share with us! We didn’t know that he had won a ribbon!

They’re doing the judging at the county fair today. I have to go to town again tomorrow, so we’re going to go check first thing to see if we won anything! lol I want to know as much as the kids! lol We have to go to the library for more books. The library is also having a fund raiser tomorrow. To raise money for our new library. Schwanns (the frozen food people) are doing the fundraiser. They are giving a percentage of sales to the library for the new building. So even though I don’t usually buy from them (too expensive), I am going to buy some stuff tomorrow.

I need to get up and get moving now. I’ve feed the kids, but that’s all. I need to get to work! Lots of schoolwork, and piano today. And there are some cobwebs in the living room SCREAMING my name!
