Gas prices are down, but around here they have gone up a little recently. I live in a rural area, and our local store with a gas station was charging $1.79 this morning for gas.
Normally, this is 10 cents higher than gas in the larger town where I go shopping. D also works in this town, so he lets me know where the good gas prices are. 🙂
I was very happy a few weeks ago when our Kroger put in gas pumps. You get 3 cents off every gallon every day with your Kroger card. You also get 1 point for every dollar you spend at Krogers. When you get one hundred points, you get 10 cents off every gallon of gas!
I have noticed that Krogers gives the points on the before coupons total, not the final total. So the points do add up quickly, and I usually only buy clearance and sale items at Kroger.
Today, for example, our local station was charging $1.79 a gallon, and I paid $1.58 a gallon at Krogers. I bought 15 1/2 gallons. So I saved $3.25 today, just by buying gas in town, instead of before I went to town. Gotta love that!
Krogers prices are competitive with other gas stations in town. For example, there are 2 gas stations right across the stree from my Krogers. Today, when had the same price as Krogers, and one was 10 cents higher.
So if you have a Krogers nearby, it would be worth comparing prices. You might be able to save a lot, too.
