We had such a hard, freezing winter it killed a lot of our plants. One thing that I didn’t think would die was our Butterfly Bushes. My father in law next door lost his bush, too.
Thankfully, new growth is coming up from the ground! I’m so thankful for that! I love these Butterfly Bushes, and so do the butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees!
See all the new growth coming up from the bottom? Here’s one of the flower buds. You can see the dead branches in the background.
This is our second, smaller Butterfly Bush. It, too, died, but has new growing up from the ground. I say smaller, but it is still about 7 feet tall! Well, until we get time to trim the dead wood!
I can always tell when the Mimosa tree is blooming. I find lots of little pink and white flower puffs on the ground. So pretty!
Now on to the vegetable garden! I love using cardboard to mulch the garden. It holds moisture in, which has been great since we’ve been having temps in the upper 80’s and 90’s. The worms love when we use cardboard in the garden, too. when I pull the cardboard back, I almost always find a worm or two. Worms are great for the garden!
These are tomato plants. I started three kinds of tomatoes in milk jugs earlier this year. We transplanted them to the garden a few weeks ago. Roma, Beefsteak, and Cherry tomatoes. After transplanting, I gave each plant a scoop of my awesome compost.
You can see a few pea plants along the fence in the pic above. We’ve had a few pickings of sugar snap peas. That we always eat right away. lol The vines almost finished. I’ll replant for a fall crop.
Here’s one of the tomato plants. They are all looking nice and green and healthy, thanks to the compost.
So, what’s growing in your garden?
