I recently received the book Christmas at Rose Hill Farm by Suzanne Woods Fisher to review. I have enjoyed everyone of her books that I have read, so I was looking forward to reading this one. Christmas at Rose Hill Farm did not disappoint.
Christmas at Rose Hill Farm, Host a Brunch, & a Giveaway!
Christmas at Rose Hill Farm tells the story of Bess Riehl. Bess is preparing Rose Hill Farm for her Christmas wedding, but her groom isn’t who she thought it would be.
Billy Lapp, the boy she always thought she would marry, is far away from his Amish roots working as a rose rustler for Penn State and wants nothing to do with Stoney Ridge, his family, or Bess. And that suits Bess just fine, since he left town without an explanation. Bess has moved on with her life, and that meant saying yes to Amos Lapp, Billy’s cousin and best friend.
When Bess discovers a “lost” rose is at Rose Hill Farm, Billy is sent to track down its origins. Get in, identify the rose, and get out. That’s his plan. He is having a hard time narrowing down the identity of the lost rose, though. Billy has discovered that he hasn’t completely forgotten about Bess. He now wishes that she wasn’t marrying his cousin.
Rose care and history is woven into the story line through out the book. As a gardener, I really loved that aspect of the story.
I also really loved that family, and love of family, is another major part of the story line. Bess reminiscences often through out the story about her grandmother, who started growing all the roses that Bess is taking care of.
Billy also has many flashbacks of his childhood, and his family, many of them unpleasant. Thanks to a special drifter, Billy visits the father he hasn’t seen for years, something he never planned to do.
As Bess and Billy discover the identity of the lost rose, they discover that they really do belong together. They also discover that Christmas really is the season of miracles.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Christmas at Rose Hill Farm. A beautiful story of faith and family, with rose gardening and history mixed in.
