Overrated is the new book by pastor Eugene Cho. Overrated is his personal confession. His confession that he liked the idea of changing the world better than actually changing the world. He encourages readers to discover a practical discipleship that begins with the recognition that changing the world starts with changing ourselves.
Eugene is the founder and visionary of One Day’s Wages, a grassroots movement of people, stories, and actions to alleviate extreme global poverty. He is the founder and senior pastor of Quest Church, an urban, multicultural, and multigenerational church in Seattle, Washington. Eugene and his wife, Minhee, have three children.
A portion of the profits form Overrated will be donated to One Day’s Wages.
Overrated – Book Review & Giveaway
Just last Sunday night, my pastor asked what we were doing to make a difference.
What are we doing to make a difference in this world?
We can all sit around talking about how we would like things to be, or what we would do differently. In Overrated, the author shares with us his own story of working to change himself, so he can change the world. He shares this with us, so we can take this journey for ourselves.
Women, men, and children who have the courage to pursue their convictions change the world. That’s you and me. It’s those who respond. page 222
We need to be honest with ourselves. Sometimes the words “too busy” are substitutes for “too lazy”. page 156
One section of the book that I really liked dealt with emotion versus calling. Do we get an idea in our head and think it sounds great and that we should go forward with this new ministry. The author advises people to wait six months, to pray, and fast. Then come back to him and tell him if it is really a calling. How many new ministries have we seen fail because it wasn’t a calling, a conviction, but rather an emotional idea.
That’s sound advice for all of us.
Overrated is not for those who are content to sit on the church pew every Sunday morning. Overrated will challenge you to find your calling, to change yourself, so you can go forth and change the world. To make a difference.
