Things got very interesting in my kitchen this week. Friday night, Hannah was making hamburgers in the oven when she came and got me. “Mom, there’s a fire in the oven.”
She’s very quiet, so this was said calmly and quietly. I went to the kitchen, grabbed the salt, all the while telling her about why I was using the salt. I opened the oven to find that the bottom element was on fire. It burnt out again.
While looking at the burned out element, my husband discovered that part of the seal around the oven door was missing. I have NO idea when that happened, or even where the missing part of the seal went to. I had to stop using the large burner on top of the stove a few weeks ago. It would just randomly turn itself to super high and burn whatever was in the pan.
Instead of repairing this stove, I’m going to get a new one in a few weeks. This stove is 15 years old. I have cooked meals daily for up to 9 people at a time on this stove. Add in all the baking – cookies, brownies, breads, other snacks, etc., and this stove is just plum worn out. lol When I replace this stove I hope I get another workhorse stove that lasts another 15 years. Until then, I’m down to three small burners, three crockpots, an electric saucepan, and a toaster oven. We like lots of meals that don’t involve an oven, so we’ll be fine I’m sure. It will just take some getting used to.
Hannah not only learned how to make hamburger patties in the oven, she learned what to do in case of fire. She also learned how to make carmelized onions. Here’s one of her hamburger patties with cheddar cheese and carmelized onions on top. She served this with green beans and bake potatoes. Of course, some of the guys just had to put the patties on bread. lol
