Saturday on the Farm – Garden Tour

I have lots more to share this week, so let’s get started!
This white bench has been on my front porch for a couple of years. I actually don’t even remember where I got it, I think someone gave it to me. However, it has reached retirement time. We are afraid to let anyone sit on it for fear it will fall apart. Instead of throwing it away, I decided to put it in the Bible Garden. I will be putting plants on it. This end of the house faces the driveway, so when you walk up to the house this is what you see. The bush on the left is a Burning Bush, then there is a 10 Commandments statue. The plants to the right of the bench are Day Lillies.
Please ignore the fact that the outside of the garden needs a visit from the weed wacker. As you can see, this garden needs mulch, too. I have an order in for a truckload of bark from a local saw mill. I will be using that in all my gardens, around the fruit trees and vines, and maybe in parts of the vegetable garden.
If you keep going over to the right in the Bible Garden, I have a patch of Lily of the Valley flowers. These have slowly multiplied over the years and the patch is probably about 3-4 feet square. I really need to transplant some of these.
It’s so hard to get a good picture of the Lily of the Valley flower, as the flowers all face down towards the ground. So I picked one so I could get a close up of it. I used the “vibrant” setting on my camera, and the flowers really stand out. I didn’t edit this picture on the computer other than to add my name. The camera did all this to the colors.
The Chives in the herb garden behind the house are blooming. You can eat the flowers, too! These are “regular” chives, so the chives and flowers have an onion flavor. I love to use the blossoms to decorate potato salad, and other dishes. The are so pretty, and unusual. And taste great, too.
The green plant coming up to the left of the Chives is my Echinacea.
On the other side of the sidewalk from the above her garden, I started another herb garden. On one end of this garden, I have two palettes to plant in. This first one has some heirloom strawberries that I planted last year. I have a few plants, and they all have blossoms, and I can see some little strawberries started.
The 100 strawberry plants we planted a few weeks ago are doing well. I didnt’ get a picture of them, put most of the plants have blossoms. The Herb garden with the Chives above, also has wild strawberries that are blooming as well. And we have several strawberries than can be seen.
The next palette has two Oregano plants in it. These plants survived our bad Kentucky winter and are doing very well.
Time to get some more herbs planted in the rest of the palette!
