I planned my first Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt for Teens when my youngest, who was 12 at the time, requested to have an Easter Egg hunt. He was too old for the egg hunt at church, but I was glad that he didn’t think he was too old for one. Especially since that was the last year he requested one. We all had fun with our first Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt for teens!

I thought it might be fun, and more challenging to have a scavenger hunt instead of a regular Easter egg hunt. Here are a few links I found, then I’ll tell you what I’m going to do. Your clues will need to be specific for your house or yard. Not everyone has the same features. So have fun finding clues that will fit your house, yard, and family.  And you can make it different each year!

Since I did our scavenger hunt outside. I used the worksheet for the Christian Scavenger Hunt, linked above. The kids had to look up the missing word in ten Bible verses. The missing word was the item they had to find for the scavenger hunt.

I gave the worksheets to my 12, 14, 17 and 18 year olds and had them fill them out. I hide four candy filled eggs, one for each teen & pre-teen participating, at a spot outside that corresponds to the missing word.

Example: water. I put the eggs near the outside faucet. For rock, I put the eggs by the rocks of our fire pit. Of course, we have rocks as garden edging all around our house, and a gravel driveway. So they had to really hunt for the eggs. lol

It was so fun! It satisfied my 12 year olds desire to have an egg hunt. And include the teens in a fun, challenging way, when they wouldn’t have participated in a regular Easter egg hunt.

For another fun idea, use glow in the dark Easter eggs for a night time scavenger hunt!  Indoors OR outside! See how we used the glow in the dark eggs.

Here are some other fun things for Easter egg hunts!

And here are a couple of scavenger hunt games to play as a family anytime!

  1. When my children got too old, I got black eggs (some I painted black) and put money in each. I did a 1.00 per egg and then have a gold and silver I put 5.00 and 10.00…. Then the Saturday night before Easter Sunday I hid them after dark. Each one of them got a flash light and would hunt them. They really enjoyed it. Don’t know why I’m writing in past tense because even though they are married with children we still have this Easter egg hunt. I added to it though for my grand babies I do two Easter egg hunts….. Saturday night I take glow sticks and put their eggs in those and then Sunday we have the traditional egg hunt. And as far as the golden egg, each of my children put 5.00 in a pot and the one who finds the golden egg wins the pot of money plus my ten (comes out to be the golden egg is now worth about 50.00)…. This is still so much fun to watch my children act like kids again!!!!

    1. Love these ideas, and will probably use them. My son is only 5,but I’m sure he’d like some of these anyways. My mom usually does coins, and a few dollars for the grandkids. The flashlight, and glow stick ideas sound like so much fun!! 🙂

  6. My oldest is only 10 but already is starting to show signs of being “too old” to do/enjoy the same things as her younger sister. I think creating an egg hunt just for her and her “older cousins” is worth doing, will try it out this coming Easter, thanks for the idea!

  7. When the kids were young we’d hide real and plastic eggs. The plastic had candy, coins or small toys. I think there was a prize for the person who found the most.

  10. Right now my kids are still young enough for the Easter Egg hunts and our community has one. I feel a little let down after those however since it’s just a candy free for all with bigger kids pushing littler kids or parents filling up their kids baskets. I make my kids share their eggs with kids that haven’t found as much.

  11. It’s hard to believe that Easter is right around the corner. Especially with all of this cold weather we’re having. It’s something to look forward to.

  12. I Love our idea of the scavenger Easter Egg Hunt~The older Children don”t get left out~ Every Easter the entire family gets together. We always have an Easter Egg Hunt ..We put change in the plastic eggs and to make it fair for everyone. Every child had the same amount of eggs to find in their own color. So they all ended up with the same ..Now our children are adults and we are having the Hunt for Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren!! Fun Memories..

  13. What a Great Idea! We used to go to the city park for egg hunts when we were kids! Then, per my parents, we were just too old to go anymore! I love your idea of the scavenger hunt along with the egg hunt. How Fun! I also love the one comment where she does a night time hunt with a silver and gold egg! Such fun! My kids deemed themselves too old to do any more Easter Egg Hunts a couple years ago, so we don’t have any anymore! Thanks so much for this Egg Hunt information which you’ve shared with all of us! I LOVE IT! Thanks again, Michele 🙂

  14. Loved easter egg hunts when I was young and loved teaching my children how to color their eggs. A wonderful fun family tradition.

  15. this sounds awesome! my kids are older but we still have to color eggs every year and i still have to hide them and the Easter baskets, so I suggest a really hard clue for the scavenger hunt and put their baskets there. I think I will try the scavenger hunt this year and I think I’ll use a word search puzzle. Thanks

  16. I think a scavenger hunt would be a great idea for the older kids, it kicks thing up a notch. A simple Easter Egg hunt is a good idea for the younger children. Thank you for sharing this post.

  18. The church right across the street from us has a yearly egg hunt. It’s cute to see all of the kids dressed up in their Easter dress.

  19. We have been doing Easter hunts for a few years and they love them. My babies are now 17.15.& 14, I hate how fast they grow up. We got a step grandmom a couple of years ago and now have to travel for Easter, so we incorporated stops. One is at a gas station where we stop to use the bathroom. The first year while everyone was waiting to use the potty husband hid things in the store. We called ahead and made sure they would be cool with this. They know us so well we call up and tell them what time we will be there and they have already placed stickers on a few treats. We “pay” for the bathroom usage or so the kids all think. (We are paying for the treats). Its good fun for everyone.

  20. This is a great idea. I have a few older nieces and nephews and I bad having them hunt for eggs with the lil kids. Thanks for sharing!

  22. We have 5 kids ages 2, 6, 7, 19 & 20. We still have an egg hunt every year. We pick 1 color for our oldest 2 & hide them in the house in really tough places. We put their favorite candies, dollar bills, change, beauty products, etc in them. The littles get candy & treats & theirs are down low on their level, easy out in the open.

  23. I think it is a great idea to have older kids help with hiding eggs and hiding them plus do the artwork for the little ones.

  24. I can’t wait to try out the Christian Egg Hunt I am sure this will go over big. I appreciate you sharing

  29. One Easter we put the kids names on the egg then instructed them to find their egg only and not to tell the other players because the first one to find all their eggs, wins. I only had 5 eggs per child (3) and out took over an hour. One clue, keep a map of where you hid them.

    1. Our church does baptism on Easter sunday every year and has an Easter egg hunt afterwards for the newly baptized kids and teens. The boys have to wear a suit and tie and the girls have to wear a poofy, white, short sleeve, top of the knees baptism dress and bonnet with the lace socks and white shoes. It is really cute and special seeing the preteen and teen girls in their white outfits hunting for the easter eggs!

      1. To Cheryl F.-All of the girls at our parish also have to wear the same outfits as you described with an undershirt, cloth diaper and rubberpants under their dresses. Many of the teen girls wear their baptism dresses to midthigh length and when they bend over to pick up the easter eggs, their dresses go up in back and their diaper and rubberpants are exposed! Some of the teen girls wear ruffled rubberpants over their diaper and some wear babyprint rubberpants. They change into their cute easter dresses later on and wear their diaper and rubberpants under it! Our daughter was baptized at 16,and she wore the ruffled rubberpants over her diaper and changed into her cute pink easter dress later on!

        1. My two daughters are a year apart and when they were 8 and 9 they made their First Holy Communions and per the parish dress code had to wear poofy, top of the knees communion dresses and veils with lace anklets and the white mary jane shoes.White rubberpants and an undershirt were required under their dresses. Later on,after i put their outfits away,i kept out their rubberpants and sewed six rows of pink lace across the back of both pair with a white bow in the middle. They both wore the rubberpants under their cute dresses for Easter, christmas, and weddings up untill they were 14.

        2. Yes i agree,I think cloth diapers and rubberpants under short easter dresses is very cute! I have seen both tween and teen girls wearing them under their easter dresses at easter egg hunts and they really do make the girls feel cute and little girlish in their outfits.

        3. When i was 14,i was finially baptized at Easter sunday mass olong with other kids and teens.Like the other girls baptized with me,i was dressed in the traditional white, poofy, above the knees, short sleeve baptism dress and matching bonnet with the lace anklets and white maryjane shoes and had the cloth baptism diaper and white rubberpants and tee shirt on under my dress. That afternoon,i had to participate in the Easter egg hunt at the grandparents house and had to still wear my baptism outfit. My cousins thought i looked like a ‘baby’ and when i would bend over to pick up an easter egg,my baptism dress went up in back and everyone, including my male cousins, could see the diaper and rubberpants under my dress! It was some what embarrassing!

          1. Our son and daughter are twins and 15.They both are finially being baptized at Easter sunday mass along with other teens and some adults. The son is going to wear his suit with a white dress shirt and ty,and the daughter is going to wear the traditional white ‘babygirl’ type outfit consisting of the poofy, short sleeve, top of the knees baptism dress with the matching bonnet, lace anklets and white maryjane shoes, under her dress she will have the white tee shirt with the traditional white cloth baptism diaper with adult size rubberpants with pink lace sewn across the back. I am so looking forward to dressing her in the outfit and having her pure and innocent like a ‘babygirl’ for the baptism!
