Frugal Friday – Electronic Coupons

March 6, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I love using electronic coupons loaded on my Kroger card. The down side is, you can only load one of each coupon on your card. So you can’t stockpile, but it is still a convienent way to get extra coupons. Yo can have up to 25 coupons loaded on your Kroger card at one time. My Krogers lets me use the electronic coupon and a paper coupon on the same item. The e-coupon doesn’t double, though.

Here are the sites I currently use:

Shortcuts
P & G E-saver
Cellfire

Cellfire lets you load grocery coupons on your Kroger card, as well as sending coupons for other stores right to your cell phone. I haven’t tried that yet, I don’t think my cell phone will accept pictures. C & H have newer cell phones, so one of these days, I’ll try theirs. The guys were interested in a Gamestop coupon that we saw on Cellfire. (like they need anymore games! lol)

And don’t forget to register your Kroger card online. They send out a booklet of coupons every month or so. I also get coupons for the items I normally use. They send them every 2 or 3 months, and I regularly get cuopons for free items, like Cheerios and granola bars, I have even gotten coupons for free eggs. The also usually send me coupons for butter. Since we only use butter, I really like those.

Hannah Update….

March 5, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Today Hannah went for the scan that the surgeon ordered on Monday.

They did an ultrasound of her leg, from hip to ankle, checking the blood flow. Of course, they can’t tell you anything. You have to wait to see the dr for your results. Since I’m used to ultrasounds of babies, and not arteries, I couldn’t tell you if what I was seeing was normal or not. I could see the blood flowing, it flashes red on the black and white screen, so it wasn’t that difficult. lol

We’ll find out the results when we see the surgeon again on Monday.

Her toes are still swollen, red, painful to walk on, and sometimes look purple. She’s not a very happy camper right now. Which is perfectly understandable.

Poor thing, I hope we find out something soon.

Works For Me Wednesday – Favorite Foods

March 4, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I cook 7 days a week. No, really, I do! So is it any wonder that I have several Works for Me Wednesday entries about food? Nope, no surprise to me! lol

Here are a few of my entries:

I shared several ideas on quick suppers with hamburger. I still use these ideas, and recently had a request from my family for the Crockpot Cheeseburgers so I will be making those soon.

Chicken Parmesan is still a family favorite. And it’s so easy!

Anytime you have leftovers in the fridge is a good time to make Easy Stir Fry Rice. And so good, too!

It took me longer than I care to say to figure out how to serve casseroles for my diabetic husband. It was such a help to me in planning meals when I figured that one out. We all get to eat the food we like, without unnecessarily raising my husbands blood sugar.

Cooking (great food!) everyday for my family Works For Me!

Hannah Update…

March 2, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Today Hannah had to see the surgeon about her toe. He said it looked good, and to finish the antibiotics that the doc put her on last Thursday.

He checked her pulse in her ankle, and the top of her foot. He said it was very thready. So he is sending her for a scan of the artery in her leg.

Her toe is looking a lot better today, than it was last week.

February in Review

February 28, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

February was a very busy month, along with being very cold, snowy and icey…

We had:

2 birthdays – mine and Mel’s
1 Valentines day dinner at church
2 – 4 hour volunteer sessions at the outreach center
2 quick visits to drop stuff off at the outreach center
1 clothes give away where we handed out bags, and folded clothes
2 piano lessons (2 others were cancelled)
6 extra Bible Drill practices (if I counted right, I think I missed a couple)
5 Doctor appointments – 2 for Hannah, 2 for Granny, 1 for Calen 2 hours away

That’s a lot, but add in housework, schoolwork, shopping, cooking, church and I’m exhausted!

sigh……..I think I need a nap!

Frugal Friday – Saving on Gas at Kroger

February 28, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Gas prices are down, but around here they have gone up a little recently. I live in a rural area, and our local store with a gas station was charging $1.79 this morning for gas.

Normally, this is 10 cents higher than gas in the larger town where I go shopping. D also works in this town, so he lets me know where the good gas prices are. 🙂

I was very happy a few weeks ago when our Kroger put in gas pumps. You get 3 cents off every gallon every day with your Kroger card. You also get 1 point for every dollar you spend at Krogers. When you get one hundred points, you get 10 cents off every gallon of gas!

I have noticed that Krogers gives the points on the before coupons total, not the final total. So the points do add up quickly, and I usually only buy clearance and sale items at Kroger.

Today, for example, our local station was charging $1.79 a gallon, and I paid $1.58 a gallon at Krogers. I bought 15 1/2 gallons. So I saved $3.25 today, just by buying gas in town, instead of before I went to town. Gotta love that!

Krogers prices are competitive with other gas stations in town. For example, there are 2 gas stations right across the stree from my Krogers. Today, when had the same price as Krogers, and one was 10 cents higher.

So if you have a Krogers nearby, it would be worth comparing prices. You might be able to save a lot, too.

Ow, Her Toe!

February 26, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Last night, when I looked at Hannah’s sore toe, it was considerably worse than the night before. I mean visibly worse. So I called this morning to see if she should come in today, or wait until her appointment tomorrow morning.

I was told to go ahead and bring her in today. After 2 docs cconsulted, she was given yet another antibiotic, and an appoitment to see a surgeon on Monday.

She is not very happy. The doc had told us at the last visit, that if it didn’t clear up, she would have to have her toenail taken off. Needless to say, she’s not very happy about that at all.

I just want to get this staph infection cleared up, before it spreads. Of course, I don’t want her to have to have any invesive procedures. But this infection needs to be gone!

So, we’re praying for her toe, giving her antibiotics 4 times a day, and waiting to see the surgeon on Monday.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
