I have loved reading about India for years. One of my all time favorite books is a biography of a women doctor in India. So I was intrigued when I received a Veil Of Tears dvd in the mail to review.
Veil of Tears DVD Review & Giveaway
Veil of Tears is a documentary that tells the story of women in India who have been culturally oppressed because they are women. Veil of Tears was filmed in India, and is narrated by Natalie Grant.
Even though the Indian government has outlawed the caste system, it has not gone away. The caste system in India is the division of classes. For example, the poor, the college educated, the wealthy, etc. Whatever caste you are born into is the one you were in for the rest of your life. If you were born into a poor family, that’s it. You had no hope of ever doing anything with your life. No education, no job, no future.
Veil of Tears tells the stories of several women. You will see the women, hear their stories, and hear from some family members. Their stories are heartbreaking.
Girls and women are sold, disfigured, and murdered just because they are women.
In the past, women in India had no hope. No hope of a better life. And no hope of anyone coming to their rescue.
Now, thanks to Gospel for Asia, the women of India have hope! The proceeds of this film go towards helping these women in many ways – social, education, health, and spiritually.
Women’s lives are being changed!
I was riveted by this documentary. It is very well done, even though some of the subject matter is not easy to talk about. Because of these subjects, I don’t recommend Veil of Tears for children. Veil of Tears is suitable for teens and adults.
