Since I last shared a week in review on December 6th, this will be more like a month in review. What can I say, it’s been really busy here.
The kids, and Dad, went to a concert at the beginning of December. The kids really enjoy these, and they make a nice once a year treat. Although, this was their 2nd concert for 2013. I forget who they saw, but it was about 6 different contemporary Christian artists. They had a blast!
We ended up only taking the week of Christmas off from school. We only had the equivalent of half days We hit a few subjects and called it good. My father in law had been in the hospital, so we were spending a lot of time next door helping him after he got home.
On the 17th, Hannah turned 18. She graduated from our homeschool last June.
Then there was Christmas. We had a great day together as a family. Including making dinner and carrying it next door to my father in law’s house to eat. Our church had a Christmas night candle light service. I didn’t make it, but the family members that went said it was very nice.
Speaking of church and Christmas, we had three involved in the Christmas play at church. Calen, 19, worked in lights, sound, and video, including editing the video, sending the local tv station, and posting online. Abby was a curtain puller. Zach had two parts in the play, a boy that was healed, and a demon. So he was the only one actually on stage. He did a great job! That’s him laying on the floor lol
My husband took the week of Christmas for his vacation. It was nice having lots of family time. But sure messed with my head. I didn’t know what day it was all week! lol
New Years Eve found me home with two kids, one sick, while my husband and two kids went to church. Those of us here at home made gingerbread houses. My husband only stayed at church until about 9, but Calen & Abby stayed all night with the youth. Want to talk about some cranky teenagers on New Years Day?
That brings us to the rest of this week. We were back in school 4 days. All the usual subjects. I did start some new Bible with the kids. We participated for several years in Bible Drill through our church. They didn’t do it last year. So we didn’t. Unfortunately, our church didn’t do it again this year. So I got the memory verses online and started the kids memorizing them this week We won’t be going to any drills, but I didn’t want to let another year go by without them memorizing the Bible verses, and practicing the drills I will be drilling them myself so they can find books and verses in the Bible quickly. An important skill for all of us.
Zach got a set of K’nex for Christmas. He’s been having fun building stuff. A motorcycle, a working car, and this working Ferris Wheel. There’s a handle in the middle that he turns and the whole ferris wheel turns. Fun.
I also started them on The Life of Christ Family Reading Plan (available for free right now. Not an affiliate link). I have them reading the selections independently, instead of together, though. It has them read a selection of the New Testament every day, 5 days a week, from January 1st through Good Friday. Then there are selected readings for Easter week.
After breaking her finger last month, Abby got the clearance to return to volleyball. She had a game tonight, and the coach played her some, even though she hasn’t been to any practices since getting clearance. They won! 🙂
And that’s Our Homeschool Week (or month!) in Review. See you next week!
