In the Garden with Linda

July 6, 2014 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

The whole family went out and worked in the garden on Saturday.  In the evening, after supper. Otherwise it’s just too hot and humid to do anything in the garden. We also held to family tradition and had ice cream when we came in from working in the garden.  🙂

Here are a few pictures I took.

We planted quite a few cucumber seeds, and we only have one plant standing. sigh.  Thankfully, we have a few blossoms on this plant. I need to plant  some more, and hopefully, they come up.

We really have had a problem with germination this year. Since it has been with several vegetables, I don’t think it’s the seeds. Cucumber, lettuce, spinach, peas, orange bell peppers, green bell peppers, green beans, broccoli, white radishes, to name a few. sigh

I had started 3 different kinds of tomatoes from seed, and we transplanted them to the garden. They have been doing well, and I found a few blossoms on the plants. I also found 5 tomato plants that a ground hog ate! sigh. We know it’s a ground hog as he was seen visiting the garden. I don’t mind if wild animals have a snack in my garden, but they really need to leave some for me! lol

I sure hope these poor tomato plants make a come back.

I have 4 zucchini plants and 2 yellow squash plants. Well, I had two yellow squash plants. One was eaten. Probably by that pesky ground hog. I need to replant that, too.

I checked on the red radishes, and saw that some of them were getting tall greens on them. I picked the biggest two, thinking I was going to get some nice, big radishes. Here’s what I got. lol

Here’s a picture of the garden I took while standing in the drive way. I love my cardboard mulch. The squash are on the right, and the tomatoes are on the left. There are even two kids working! lol The green beans are planted on the other side of the creek. The tree line (and weeds!) is where the  creek is. You can catch a glimpse of more cardboard over there. There are two fences where the green beans are planted. You can see our hills, too, with the woods at the top. Lot’s of deer, wild turkeys, coyotes, and other “things” up there. We’ve had a bear around in the past, and a big cat of some kind has been spotted in nearby. yikes!

So, what’s growing in your garden?

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

John 3:16-17 NKJV
