Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas Review & Giveaway

November 13, 2014 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy 13 Comments

I was able to watch the new movie Saving Christmas online, in advance of it releasing in theaters on November 14, so I could tell you about it. In Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas, your family will join Kirk’s family in their Christmas celebration. There is singing, dancing, feasting, imagination, and fun while exploring Christmas traditions.

Saving Christmas

I watched Saving Christmas with my husband, and two of our teens, 14 & 16. We thoroughly enjoyed watching it. There were even a couple of spots that had my husband and I laughing out loud.

Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas Review & Giveaway

In Saving Christmas, Kirk is at his sister’s house for a big family Christmas get together. The sister is played by Kirk’s actual sister, and there are several other of his family members in it as well. The brother in law was amazing. He’s not an actor in real life, but he totally could be. He is the one that had my husband and I laughing out loud. Saving Christmas would not be the same without him.

Saving Christmas starts with taking us all the way back to Bethlehem and the manger. Kirk explains the significance of the swaddling cloth. Then on to Genesis with Adam eating the fruit, and the history of the tree being used in the Bible and in the Temple, for a cross, and in our Christmas celebrations.

Saint Nicholas is then discussed. Who he was, what he did, and how it translated to our modern day Santa Claus. The giving of presents and materialism is also covered.

Kirk brings the whole discussion of whether Christians should celebrate Christmas, and how they should do it, down to the simple basics. After you watch Saving Christmas, you will have a better understanding of what all the Christmas symbols really stand for. Saving Christmas is not a dry, boring documentary. Yes, there was a lot of research that went into Saving Christmas, but it is presented in a lively, talkative way with Kirk’s voice over video. The history of Christmas is interwoven into the family Christmas celebration.

We stopped telling our kids about Santa about 25 years ago. Our oldest children were like 2 and 3 years old when we stopped using Santa in our Christmas celebrations. They don’t even remember us “doing” Santa. So our 6 children were raised without Santa. (Don’t worry, we always told our kids not to tell other kids that there wasn’t a Santa.) After watching Saving Christmas, I have no regrets about Santa, but I do wish I had done more research and included Saint Nicholas history into our Christmas. I think that this year, I will do some research with my two teenagers and learn more about Saint Nicholas.

As part of this Saving Christmas campaign, I was able to participate in a teleconference with Kirk Cameron. He answered questions submitted to him by the bloggers participating in this campaign. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Kirk talk about his family, and how they celebrate Christmas. When asked how he met his wife, Kirk answered, “I stole Mike Seaver’s girlfriend.” lol Kirk Cameron was very down to earth while talking to us. He really does love Christmas and celebrating all aspects of Christmas with his family. If you have heard him talk in interviews, or seen his past Christian movies, you know Kirk is bold in his faith. In Saving Christmas, Kirk Cameron is just as bold about celebrating Christmas with our families and putting Christ back into Christmas. Let us all be as bold as Kirk and encourage those around us to make Christ the center of Christmas.

Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas opens in theaters on November 14th, for a limited engagement of 2 weeks. If it’s showing in your area, you won’t want to miss this great movie about putting Christ back in Christmas.

For the past couple of years we were having the Christmas holidays at my brothers house in Beloit, W.I. because it was just easier for my son and daughter-in-law with a young child. But now my grandson is almost two in March, so this year we are having it at grandma & grandpa’s house!!!!!!!! 🙂

My favorite Christmas activity is decorating the tree with my kids. I am a single mom so we make a big production of putting the tree together, lights and decorations. I love to spend the holidays with my kids.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
