December 5, 2014 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

This week, I watched The Lumo Project’s The Gospel of John with my kids.

The Lumo Project- The Gospel of John Review

The Lumo Project is a ground breaking, multi-language biblical film resource transforming the way we discover, study and engage with the life of Jesus through the four New Testament Gospels: redefining the standard of visual Biblical media. The Lumo Project presents four films – one for each Gospel account – that will revolutionise the way we all experience the story of Jesus and the world of First Century Palestine in which he lived.

The Gospel of John is a full length feature film where the script is taken from the Gospel of John, word for word, unedited. It took five years to make, and is narrated by British actor David Harewood. Filmed on specially constructed sets and in the extraordinarily authentic villages and contryside of rural Morocco. You really feel like you are there, in the Holy Land walking with Jesus. The Gospel of John is critically acclaimed by leading religious scholars as a highly authentic telling of the story of Jesus.

I watched The Gospel of John over three days with my 16 and 14 year olds. We all loved it. It held the attention of my two teenagers, including the 14 year old boy. I loved all the beautiful scenery. I loved that the narrator read the Gospel of John word for word. I even got my Bible out to check. I love that The Lumo Project will be releasing versions in other countries narrated in their own language.

The Gospel of John is a very well done, Biblically accurate telling of John’s account of the life of Jesus that I highly recommend. This movie can be used in many ways. It makes a great family movie. (Be aware that parts may be too intense for younger kids.) It’s great for the homeschool, it has the audio and the visual so all styles of learners can benefit from watching it. The Gospel of John could also be used as part of your, or your families, Bible study. It think it would be great to read a section of John, then watching the video that pertains to that section.

The Lumo Project – The Gospel of John is now streaming on Netflix! You can watch it in either KJV or NIV. If you’re a Netflix subscriber look it up. You won’t be disappointed. If you’re not a subscriber, it would be worth it to sign up just so you can watch The Gospel of John with your family.

I BEGAN VIEWING “THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN” FIRST. I DON’T KNOW IF IT IS JUST ME, BUT I REALLY WAS TURNED OFF BY THE ACTOR PORTRAYING JESUS. HIS BODY LANGUAGE AS HE SPOKE, AND HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, MADE ME FEEL AS IF JESUS REALLY INTERACTED AND SHOULD EMOTIONS THAT WAY. IT WAS LIKE SEEING “MYSELF”. SEEING MY FLESHLY RESPONSES AND EMOTIONS ACTING AS IF JESUS WOULD. FOR EXAMPLE: (1.)WHEN JESUS’ MOTHER ASKED HIM TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE WINE RUNNING OUT AT THE BRIDAL CELEBRATION. THE ACTOR SHOWED SUCH DISGUST. HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS(ROLLING OF THE EYES) AND BODY LANGUAGE SHOKED ME. YOU WOULD THINK IT WAS AN INTERACTION BETWEEN MOTHER AND SON OF TODAYS TIME. INTERACTION WITH NO CHRISTIAN FOUNDATION. (2.) WHEN THE ACTOR SHOWED EMOTION AT THE TEMPLE, OVER-TURNING TABLES…..HIS ANGER WAS TOO WORDLY. YES, BE ANGRY, BUT SIN NOT, BUT THE ACTOR MADE ME FEEL AS IF IT JESUS IS NO DIFFERENT IN HIS DEALINGS WITH PEOPLE THAN ANY MAN. I DID NOT SEE THE LOVE. I SAW “MYSELF.” I SAY MYSELF BEING SELF-RIGHTEOUS. I DID NOT SEE THE LOVE. THE ACTOR RARELY SMILED. THE ACTOR DOES EVERYTHING BUT CARRY AROUND WIP. HE ROLLS HIS EYES. THAT TO ME IS THE BEHAVIOR OF HUMANS SHOWING DISGUST. SHOWING DISGUST MORE THAN SMILING. LOVE.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

John 3:16-17 NKJV
