I’m always ready to watch a good faith based movie. So I was glad to hear about a new movie with an incredible story. The Firing Squad is inspired by the true story from 2015 of three Christians who face execution by firing squad in a third world country.
About The Movie
The Firing Squad is a faith based, biographical drama that is rated PG-13 for brief violence, thematic elements, and drug references. Parents: While they don’t actually show anyone getting shot, You see them firing the quns, and know they were shot. They do show a couple of the men laying on the ground with a trickle of blood coming out of their mouths. They do not show any wounds.
The movie stars James Barrington, Kevin Sorbo (“God’s Not Dead”, “Let There Be Light”), and Cuba Gooding, Jr. and is directed by Timothy Chey (Freedom, David and Goliath, and more!)
The filmmakers have been supported by Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru), Calvary Chapel, Pastor Greg Laurie, NACC, Baptist Press, Christian Cinema, NRB, Kay Arthur, Precept Ministries, The Christian Post, The Fish Radio, Rebecca St. James, Family Christian, Lifeway Christian Resources, Talbot Seminary, Biola University, Dallas Theological Seminary, Baptist News, Daystar TV, Evangelical Press Assn, Life Surge, et al.
The Firing Squad is also supported by the Marketing Teams behind The Passion of the Christ, Son of God, and Sound of Freedom.

The Firing Squad Movie Review
I don’t recall hearing about this story at the time it happened. Either I missed it, or the news didn’t cover it. So I didn’t know anything about the story.
The movie starts with 2 of the men who are dealing drugs, and planning a big deal. They planned every detail, including how to hide the drugs from inspectors. I found The Firing Squad did a great job of conveying the men before their arrests.
However, they did not make it through security. They were caught in the airport in Indonesia, and sent straight to prison. There was a strict, no drugs policy. So their appeal was turned down.
The story follows them during their short stay in prison. The were not Christians before going to prison, and were not too receptive to the other prisoners telling them about Jesus. When they finally agreed to go to an inmate led church service, they accepted Jesus.
But that’s not the end of the story!
The peace they found made a discernable difference in the men. Then they went on to lead others to Christ. Including someone that you thought never would! There is another surprising part of The Firing Squad storyline. A love story! You would not expect a love story to take place in a foreign prison with inmates scheduled to die. But there is!
The Firing Squad is not like any faith based movie I’ve seen before. In that it deals with the few days leading up to the death of the prisoners’. I loved this movie because of how good a job they did with portraying how much peace the men had after accepting Jesus. I highly recommend you go see The Firing Squad!
Be sure to watch the credits! You’ll find out more about their campaign for Jesus. There goal is to win 1,000,000 souls for Jesus!
Here’s my favorite quote from from that.
“Listen, We all face some kind of firing squad in our lives and yet with faith in the Lord that challenge can lead us to true peace in this insane world.”
