Saturday on the Farm

January 5, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

It’s been really cold here in Kentucky still. We had a really hard frost this morning. It was 10 degrees on our back porch this morning! I would have taken a picture, but it was too cold to go outside! I took this picture from my front door after it warmed up a little. Into the 20’s. lol  The poor Butterfly bush looks so bedraggled after a major pruning this fall. The stairs on the hill lead up to the road.

The angel in the picture is from our Nativity scene. I go the indoor Christmas decorations packed up, but we’ve had a cold go through our house, and no one has felt up to putting the outdoor Nativity scene away. The angel isn’t really lit up, that’s the morning sun shining through the plastic. It looks cool, anyway, I think.

I didn’t get my seeds sorted this week like I wanted to. I really have to do that this week so I can get some seeds started. Last year I waited too long to start them indoors so I don’t want to make that mistake again.

Do you start seed indoors in January?

Our Homeschool Week in Review

January 4, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

A new year is a great time to start over if your homeschool hasn’t been going the way you want it to. A new plan, a new schedule, new books.

I’m working on a new schedule. It’s harder to schedule now that they are all older and mostly working on their own. The teens like to go to bed late, and sleep late in the morning. Ok, the 12 year old does, too.  I would prefer to go to bed earlier, get up earlier and start school no later than 9 and finish earlier in the day. Can you say conflict? lol While I could force them to follow my schedule, I can’t come up with any reason to, besides “I said so”. So I am letting the 18, 17, and 14 year olds set their own schedule. As long as they get their work done, and written down in their planners by the end of the day, I’m good.  Of course, there are consequences to not getting their work done. I’m working more closely with the 12 year old 6th grader. He has to start school after he’s finished he’s dressed and eaten.

Have you checked out SchoolhouseTeachers.com? I did a review of the website last year. I love the website! We are still using it for film making and voice right now. I’ll be adding more as we go along.

After a couple of weeks off from volleyball, they girls had practice this week. Since we’ve had a cold go through our house, only Abby was able to make practice. They have the first game of the year, an away game, on the 11th. Go Trailblazers!!

Unstoppable by Nick Vujicic Book Review

January 3, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I recently received a copy of Unstoppable by Nick Vujicic to review. I was glad for the chance to review his new book as I reviewed his first book, Life Without Limits in 2011.

While Life Without Limits is his biography, Unstoppable is a combination of his story and the stories of people he has met. Since Nick travels around the world speaking to large groups, he has the opportunity to meet many, many inspirational people.

Unstoppable

Read an excerpt from Unstoppable by Nick Vujicic

I loved Unstoppable! The author does an amazing job of combining his story with the stories of other inspirational people. There are many, many examples of people with disabilities, difficulties and tragedies in their lives overcoming these obstacles with God as their focus. Not only did they overcome their circumstances, they all went on to be shining examples of what God can do with someones life.

I highly recommend Unstoppable! There is nothing that can’t be done with God!

Saturday on the Farm

December 29, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

It’s that time of year!  Time to start planning next years garden!

I have to sort through my seeds and organize them. They are in a sad state of disorganization. sigh…. That doesn’t stop me from planning, though!

For a few  years now, I’ve been wanting to get a Meyer Lemon Tree, a Fig Tree and Elderberries. This is the year! Now I just have to decide where to order them from. One of the major companies that has a coupon on the front of their catalog seems to have the best price. But is it the best quality? hmmmm…… I think I’ll be ordering the Elderberries from some place else,  but I do like the guarantee from the big company.

What to do, what to do….

Here’s the Meyer Lemon Tree I’m considering getting.

And here’s the Fig Tree I’m considering getting.

Anybody have any experience with either of these trees? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

It’s been below freezing and we’ve even had a dusting of snow this week, so I have no current pictures to share. Here’s a picture of an Iris from earlier this  year.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
