Our Homeschool Week in Review

December 15, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I was finally able to get a picture at volleyball. I was only able to get Hannah, as I don’t like to interrupt practice with flash photography. I’ll have to get Abby another time. Anyway, here’s Hannah working on her overhand serve.

Hannah tried her hand at making sourdough donuts this week. The whole family loved them!

Actually, she got tired of my saying I was going to make them, so she did it. lol They tasted much less sour than our bread. With the glaze that she made, you couldn’t even really tell they were sourdough other than the texture being different. We will definitely make these more often.

I am undecided as to when we are going to start our vacation. Bad homeschooling mom! lol My nieces and nephews get out of school next Tuesday. Since they will be spending a lot of their vacation across the street, it’s just easier (on me!) if we are off school while they are visiting. I do think I’ll make mine have school on Monday and Tuesday at least, and finish out as much of the week as we can. Then we’ll hit it hard in January!

Where God Finds You – Review & Giveaway

December 14, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Where God Finds You is  Anita Higman’s new book from Standard Publishing. Where God Finds You takes you into the lives of 40 people from the Bible.

Where God Finds You

Here’s more about Where God Finds You:

“Have you ever longed to crawl into the pages of the Bible? To walk on the Judean hills or feel the spray of the Red Sea? To know what it’s like to confront a king or pour perfume on a Savior’s feet?

“In forty devotional tales, Where God Finds You breathes new life into ancient Bible characters. Through reflection on Scripture and prayer, you’ll discover a place in each of these lives of vulnerability, tenderness, truth and love – a place where you can find God….and where God finds you.”

Book excerpt:

I looked up from the spindle as a mystifying radiance spun its way into the room. It came into my presence like the falling of olive blossoms in the breeze, white and gleaming. Awestruck, I watched as the light took on the form of a creature of light!

I rose quickly, my heart bolting like that of a newborn lamb. I moved away from the light until my back pressed against the mud-brick wall. A faint sound, like a lyre, could be heard as if music radiated from his snowy robe. His face shone. Could it have been the lingering glow from being near the throne of the Almighty?

“Greetings,” the angel said. “You who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

I wanted to speak but could not. With tremulous hands I fingered my veil but did not lift it. What could this mean? What kind of greeting was this?

–From Chapter Three: Mary, Mother of Jesus

Included in this devotional are:  The Woman Who Touched His Cloak, The Man at Bethseda, Pilate’s Wife, The Woman Who Anointed His Feet, Noah’s Wife, The Woman of Samaria, and many more. Most of the devotions will take you 20-30 minutes, including answering all the questions.

Each of the forty devotionals are divided into four sections:

A fictionalized version of the story – the author has written the story filling in some details that are not mentioned in the scriptures.

The story from God’s Word – the Bible verses that the story is taken from. Not just listing the verses, but it has all the verses included in the book.

The story from then to now– the author helps us apply the lessons we learned from the previous sections to our lives. She tells us some about what the culture was like at the time our story takes place, and things that have happened in her own life.

Questions – each devotional has 5-7 questions. The questions are in depth questions to help you get the most from the devotion.

I found Where God Finds You to be a very nice devotional. The devotions were interesting and informative. The questions are not yes and no questions, but worded in a way to get you thinking about what you learned. Where God Finds You is a devotional for adults, but spiritually mature teens would benefit from it as well.

Haircovering.com Headband Review & $25. Package Giveaway

December 12, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I recently received two headbands from Haircoverings.com to review. Haircoverings.com carries everything you need to, well, cover your hair. Whether you cover your hair all the time, or are looking for something decorative like these headbands, Haircoverings.com has hundreds of selections. Their Feather Headbands are very fun and festive.  Haircoverings.com also has some beautiful holiday accessories to choose from. If you or someone you know is looking for hair loss coverings, you will also find a large selection of those.

Both of the headbands I received are hard headbands. This first one is entirely made of metal. It really beautiful and looks awesome in dark hair. I was concerned that my daughter wouldn’t like it because the band was metal. She not only liked it, but she found it comfortable to wear. This Silver Double Leaf headband sells for $5.99.

I do believe this second headband is my favorite. It is just absolutely gorgeous.

I received a white one, but this style comes in many different colors. It is beautiful and feminine.  The studs are bright and shiny. These pictures don’t really do it justice. This White Beautiful Thin Studded Headband sells for $4.99.

This headband would be perfect for a wedding party, I think. But it also is perfect with more casual outfits. My daughter (and I!) loved both of these headbands and found them comfortable to wear.

Now that holiday season is in full bloom, http://www.haircoverings.com is offering 20% off to you lucky readers. Use promo code “blog1231”.  Promo code expires 12/31/12.

Thanks to Haircoverings.com, I get to giveaway a Surprise Package of their products worth $25!!
