In the Kitchen With Linda & Dinner Menu

Well, I failed at taking pictures last week. Again. lol I though I did, but the proof is on my phone! lol We had some family over Saturday night for a game night. I did take a couple of pictures while I was preparing some of the food. But not of the spread when it was serving time. I’ll try again next week. lol

In the Kitchen with Linda & Dinner Menu

I had gotten a cantaloupe on sale, so this seemed like the perfect time to slice into it. The people that like cantaloupe said it was really good. I’m not one of them. lol

I also made a family favorite, pepperoni and cream cheese. It’s really good! My mother in law used to make these for every holiday. Sometimes she would use small salami, too. For an appetizer tray, every pepperoni should be on a toothpick.

But when you make over a hundred, that’s too many toothpicks. If it was for other people besides family, I would have used toothpicks. lol Instead, I put them all in a bowl. lol

I did go grocery shopping! We won’t talk about how much this cart full was. I’m sure you have your own receipt total that you don’t want to talk about, too! I did take my favorite electrolyte drink shopping with me. Can’t go shopping without it!

I am really going to buckle down and take lots of food pictures this week! So come back next week and see how I did! lol

Sugar Cravings Are Not All In Your Head!

September 7, 2022 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Sugar cravings. We’ve all experienced them. They have you running for the nearest candy bar, desert, or sugary soda. Then we feel bad because we feel like failures for giving in to cravings. But sugar cravings are not all in your head!

I’m not talking about the sugar intake you plan for, dessert at a special meal, or birthday cake for your loved one’s birthday. Or your own birthday! I’m talking about the cravings that you have a hard time controlling. You HAVE to have some sugar NOW! If you’ve ever experienced these types of sugar cravings, then you know what I’m talking about.

Sugar Cravings Are Not All In Your Head!

Here’s some news for you! Most sugar cravings start in your gut, not your head!

Yes, your gut.

Our gut has good bacteria, and bad bacteria. We are born with a small amount of bad bacteria. That small amount can increase due to taking antibiotics, as well as eating & drinking sugar. By the time we are adults, that small amount of bad bacteria has likely grown into an over-growth.

Cutting down on sugar, and only taking antibiotics when medically necessary can help reduce that over-growth. It’s not enough, though. We have to introduce more good bacteria into our gut. The good bacteria kills the bad bacteria.

You have to weed, seed, and feed. Weed out the bad bacteria, plant new seeds of good bacteria, and feed that good bacteria. That’s what will make a difference in your gut health. Then your sugar cravings will end! For real!!

Here’s my favorite products for gut health. They really work! I take these supplements everyday! Feel free to ask any questions!

An Unlikely Angel Movie Review

August 30, 2022 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I love watching movies. Good, clean movies with a good story line. That’s exactly what I got with the new movie An Unlikely Angel exclusively on Pure Flix. Check out my An Unlikely Angel Movie Review below.

An Unlikely Angel Movie Review

Synopsis:

Janie is a power player in the boardroom but is falling apart at the thought of becoming a mom. A silent prayer for help is answered in very unlikely ways when an Angel intervenes and fast forwards her life. Can Janie learn to trust God and find purpose and meaning in her new role?

An Unlikely Angel features the following cast:

Jillian Murray as Janie, Robert Amaya as Gabe, Aaron Mees as David, Sam J. Jones as Buck, Brittany Goodwin as Kelly, and Delyla de Castro as Samantha.

Janie is so wrapped up in her work that she leaves her husband and new baby girl as they were leaving the hospital to go to work. Just 12 hours after after giving birth. An angel, Gabe, was waiting there to drive her to work. Although, Janie didn’t know it was an angel.

Angel Gabe does something to help Janie. But at the time, you couldn’t tell it. While watching the movie, I said to myself , “Why in the world did the angel just do that???”.

I won’t giveaway the rest of the story line, but what the angel did was something that ended up really helping Janie, who was trying to do it all, know that she wasn’t alone on her motherhood & family journey.

An Unlikely Angel is not anti-working mother, it’s pro-priorities. Prioritizing what’s important in life. Faith and family.

I really liked An Unlikely Angel. It’s a good, clean movie you can watch with the whole family. It helps us all realize that we need to get back to the basics in an overcomplicated world.

In the Kitchen with Linda & Dinner Menu

I had an easier week this week, recovering from my surgery. So I was able to be in the kitchen more. Still didn’t get everything done that I wanted to. But I’m always too hard on myself anyway. If I don’t get everything done on my to do list, I feel like I failed. I’m working on that!!

In the Kitchen with Linda & Dinner Menu

My son planted kohlrabi in the garden this year. I’m not sure why, as none of us had ever had it before. lol

Turns out, kohlrabi, sometimes called German turnip or turnip cabbage, is in the cabbage family. It grows above ground, not below, so doesn’t belong in the turnip family.

You can eat it raw, or cooked in multiple ways. We thought it tasted like a mild turnip

I made a family favorite…. Cheesy Ranch Pork Chops. So good!

Pork chops smothered in sour cream with ranch powder. Then covered in cheddar cheese.

I served it with rice, beets, and crescent rolls. Yum!

Another night, we had baked chicken, mashed potatoes, and pan fried zucchini. I use just a small amount of butter in a cast iron skillet.

We needed a quick meal one night. So hot dogs it was. Guess who forgot the hot dog buns??? lol So we went old school. lol I actually like it better on bread than a bun. There is a better bread to hot dog ratio. lol

Then it was on to birthday party prep! A Princess Tea Party to be exact for my 4 year old granddaughter.

First up, chicken salad! Yes, I use canned chicken. I also add sweet relish, finely chopped celery, and finely chopped green onions. Refrigerate over night so the flavors can meld. So good!

The table without all the tea cups, including the most adorable mermaid tea set I found!

My other daughter, one of the Aunties, made a castle cake. It was the first big cake she’s ever decorated. I think she did an amazing job!

Isn’t it cute???

I had surgery last Monday, a hysterectomy, so I wasn’t very active in the kitchen last week! My daughter cooked one night, and some people from our church brought us supper once.

In the Kitchen with Linda & Dinner Menu

Me! The first time I washed dishes after surgery. lol Worth documenting, don’tcha think??? lol

We had tacos, using frozen precooked and seasoned meat from the freezer. Leftovers, and a soup night rounded out the rest of the week. No pictures, though.

Towards the end of the week, I managed to mix up some brownies while I was in the kitchen. I forgot to take a picture of the final product. lol

My husband grilled on Saturday. Hot dogs, and yellow squash marinated in Italian salad dressing. We also had baked beans.

I hope to get more done in the kitchen this week, and have lots more pictures!

I ended up getting sick last week. Ugh. Why does a simple sinus infection make one feel sooooooooo bad??? I don’t have very many pictures this week. My family did eat, I just missed a few days of pictures. One day, my husband did bring subs home for supper.

Good morning to me! I always like it when I get a double yolk egg. Doesn’t happen very often, though.

Burgers are a weekend staple around here. Some of the family would be perfectly happy with burgers every day!

We grilled yellow squash, too. Grilled veggies are so good!

grilled zucchini

My burger with sliced cheddar cheese, and grilled zucchini.

My youngest had a birthday last week. How can my baby be 22?????

His favorite food is lasagna. So of course, I made him one!

lasagna

And of course, I made a birthday cake, too! This also happens to be MY favorite, cake, too! Ugh. the picture is making me want to go make another one! lol

chocolate cake

Keeping it real here! Please tell me I’m not the only one that gets powdered sugar everywhere when making homemade frosting! What a mess! But sifting the powdered sugar makes a huge difference in the frosting!

powered sugar kitchen

The weather cooperated this weekend, and we got to grill! Hamburgers, of course. I think my family would eat grilled burgers every day! lol

hamburgers on grill

I love caramelized onions on my burger! It’s worth the effort!

caramelized onions

And my burger…….. with sliced sharp cheddar!

burger caramelized onions

I took 6 pounds of hamburger out of the freezer that I got on sale. We had tacos that night, and hamburger in the lasagna the next night. So I put 4 one pound bags in the freezer, 2 taco and 2 plain cooked hamburger. This is my kind of convenience food!
