It’s Friday!

July 10, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Welcome to Linda’s Lunacy!

It’s been a busy week here, I had 2 kids go to horse day camp, so lots of driving back and forth. They had a great time and learned lots, so it was worth it.

This week I shared my menu plan and a recipe for Sponge Shortcake.

I also shared how to make Homemade Detangler Spray, how to use denture tablets for cleaning, and what I’m reading this week.

I joined Word Filled Wednesday as well as Wordless Wednesday.

This week I started the Read the Bible in 90 Days program. So far so good!

And, of course, I was at the Saturday on the Farm Carnival, and in the garden.

Friday’s mean a chance to meet new people at these blog hops:

Blooming Flowers

July 7, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I thought there wouldn’t be pictures to share this week, but I went for a walk and found quite a few. Hope you enjoy them!

My daughters glads are starting to bloom.

I don’t know what variety these are, as they were given to us, but they are beautiful.

The Hibicus have a lot of buds on them.

I think the buds are beautiful, too. I’m anxious for the flowers, but look at this bud. It looks like if you tried to do anything to the bud, the “claw” would close on your fingers! lol

The Passion Flower that I trimmed and moved outside is growing like crazy. I found 2 buds. Oh, and a long legged friend.

Last week, I shared a picture of a mimosa blossom. Now here’s the tree. It’s so huge, and provides a lot of shade for this end of the yard. There are still blossoms on the tree, but you can’t see them in the picture.

And here’s a picture from the driveway, looking back at the tree. My husband keeps the lower branches trimmed off, so he can mow under the tree.

While your there, join the Saturday on the Farm Carnival.

Denture Tablets for Cleaning

July 7, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Denture cleaning tablets actually have a lot of other uses, besides cleaning dentures.

I use them in flower vases that have gotten all grimy inside. When a regular washing isn’t enough, fill the vase with hot water past the dirt line in the vase and drop in a denture tablet. If it’s a large vase, you may need two or more tablets.

Denture tablets also work great in stained coffee and tea cups. Use the same procedure as above, to remove the tough stains.

You can also use denture tablets to whiten fabric, cleaning jewelry, cleaning your childs retainer, and soaking off burnt on foods in pans and casserole dishes.

The generic brands of denture tablets are fairly cheap, and worth having in the house, even if you don’t wear dentures.

W.W.W. Wednesdays – My Reading List

July 7, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I’m taking a break this week from reading homeschool books. I have enjoyed re-reading the books, found information that I had forgotten, and rediscovered some of my favorites. I’m also looking forward to trading off the ones I no longer want, because that means I have room for more new books! I am glad, though, to go on to something else now. I’m glad a got a new book in the mail to read! Actually, I got 2 new books in the mail. I love getting books in the mail! lol

* What are you currently reading? –    Cast of Characters Common People in the Hands of an Uncommon God by Max Lucado – from the back of the book – In this gathering of inspiring stores from his numerous best-selling books, the author revisits some of his favorite biblical characters- all of whom were very human and imperfect, just like us.

* What did you recently finish reading? – Homeschooling: A Patchwork of Days by Nancy Lande with 30 Families, who all share their schedules, and what their homeschooling days are like. If you’ve ever wondered what about how other homeschoolers live, school and work, you’ll love this book.

* What do you think you’ll read next? – Healed Once and For All by Rod Parsley – from the back of the book – In this comprehensive study, you will find the answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding healing.

In addition to reading the above books, this week I started a  Read the Bible in 90 days program. So that’s keeping me busy reading, also.

Sponge Shortcake

July 6, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I got this recipe from an email list a few years ago. I don’t know the original source, though. It is so delicious! We love this sponge cake for strawberry shortcake, but it’s also delicious plain.

Sponge Shortcake

1 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup hot milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine first three ingredients together.

Beat 2 eggs till thick and lemon colored, about 3 minutes at high speed with a mixer.

Gradually add 1 cup of sugar (or sucanat) beating at medium speed 5 minutes.

By hand, quickly fold dry ingredients into egg mixture.

Add 2 tablespoons butter to 1/2 cup hot milk. Stir into batter with 1 teaspoon vanilla. Blend well.

Pour into paper-lined 8x8x2 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Cool in pan 15 minutes; remove from pan.

Top with sweetened fruit and whipped cream.

My Notes:

I don’t use paper to line the baking pan, I just spray the pan well with cooking spray, and the cake comes out of the pan fine. This doesn’t make a thick cake, it’s on the thin side. I don’t have a picture, because I’ve never been able to get one, everyone eats it so fast. lol

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
