What’s For Dinner?

July 19, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

This week is going to be a busy week. I have 2 kids at horse camp this week, we’re getting ready for a clothes giveaway at church on Saturday, and I’m helping my daughter pack for sleep away camp next week.

Oh yeah, there’s a LOT of produce from the garden that I need to process, canning and freezing.

So this week will be another easy week, just like
last week was.

Ok, every week has been an easy week since I’ve been sick.

Now for this weeks menu:

Saturday – beef – Jambalaya that husband cooked

Sunday – sandwich day – grilled cheese, some people had noodles, it was get your own! lol

Monday – chicken – Baked chicken, baked potatoes, squash

Tuesday – beef – Roast in the crockpot with veggies

Wednesday – super simple – leftovers, salad

Thursday – chicken – pool party for kids, us??

Friday – Friday Night Fire – Hamburgers with lettuce & tomatoes, macaroni salad or potato salad, carrot sticks

Every Day Should Be The Lords Day

July 18, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

July 2010 CalendarImage by Meepness – Daniel C via Flickr

We have a calendar that tells what each day is.

For example: chocolate pudding day, national ice cream day, knit in public day, there is even a “take your pet to work day” (do employers really allow that?!).

There is a day for everything.

As Christians, we think of Sunday as the Lords Day.

But Every day should be the Lords Day!

God made the days, and has set them before us. We should do our best to do HIS will everyday, to glorify HIS name every day, in all that we do. As Christians, we can NOT let the world (or a calendar) define our days for us.

This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it

Saturday On The Farm

July 17, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Saturday on the Farm

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a picture of the whole vegetable garden. I was standing in the road when I took this picture. You can see the two large yellow squash plants that are giving us lots of squash.

To the right of the squash plants there is a cantaloupe with 4 or 5 little melons on it. My son loves melon of any kind, and he’s already planning on eating these all himself. lol
To the left of the squash, you can see the two rows of green beans. We’ve gotten a big basketful so far. When these plants have finished, we’ll plant a fall crop of green beans.
It’s also almost time to plant lettuce, spinach and peas again, too.
We’ve also harvested several heads of cabbage, a few green bell peppers, a quite a few yellow squashes this week.
We didn’t get any tomatoes this week, but there are a lot of tomatoes on the vines.
My husband and son dug a hole to put in a water pump. Of course, we had heavy rains, and the whole promptly filled with water. So, if the water ever dries up, we’ll be getting a new pump near the garden and goat barn. It will be so much easier than dragging hoses over from the house.

In animal news, we’re not getting very many eggs at all. But with temps in the 90’s every day, it’s to be expected. We had some sad news this week, one of our goats died. It was one of the babies born earlier this year. It’s always sad when one of the animals dies.

I put the flower pictures in another post. It works better to split the pictures up, instead of one super long post.

Ok, it’s time for the Saturday on the Farm Carnival!

To participate, just write a post about your homestead, farm, farmette, or the tomato plant on your deck. Your cows, goats, chicken, or your favorite kitty cat.

In your post, include a link back to me. Then enter your link below.

It’s that easy! Hope to see your link below!

Blooming Flowers

July 17, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

The glads in the front garden are blooming this week. These are a really pretty salmon color.

The hibiscus blooms have started to open. I have three bushes. This is a flower on bush number 1:

And on bush number 2:

This is bush number 3:

The Passion Flower has several buds on it. I like this picture because of the single rain drop inside the bud.

The purple butterfly bush is in full bloom.

In this picture, I was standing my my back up against the front door of the house. The purple butterfly bush doesn’t look so big from here! The bush on the left is hibiscus bush number 3 from above.

Here’s another picture with my back up against the front door. The white butterfly bush is so big! My husband even gave it a big trimming earlier this year.

I don’t have mulch anywhere because of the chickens. I have big plans for the front yard. We are in the middle of adding on a front porch. The deck and 1 ramp are done. We have 1 ramp and the railings to do. Then I can work on the gardens.  🙂   Oh, yeah, I need to fix the chicken pen so the chickens can’t get out and get into my gardens!

If you want to see pictures of our vegetable garden, visit Saturday on the Farm. While your there, join the Saturday on the Farm Carnival.

Making Soap Last Longer

July 16, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

With our large family, we sure have been through a lot of soap over the years.  I can’t begin to count the number of times I have said I just put a new bar in there, how can you be out already?
I don’t remember where I heard about this tip, but it was several years ago.
When you bring your soap home from the store, unwrap it, and store it unwrapped until your ready to use it.
The water in the soap evaporates, and the bar gets harder. The harder soap lasts much longer than a softer one.
I would suggest leaving it unwrapped for at least 2-3 weeks before using it..
You will definitely see a difference in how long the bar of soap lasts!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
