Read the Bible in 90 Days – Week One

I’m joining the Bible in 90 Days summer reading session over at Moms Toolbox.

Since today is the first day, there is not much to report. I did do my reading this morning, Genesis Chapters 1-16, though.

I have read through the Bible before. It took about a year. We are also about 3/4 of the way through reading the Bible out loud with the kids. This is separate from the first time I read the Bible through. So I have actually read through the Bible 1 and 3/4 times. lol

I’m looking forward to the challenge of reading the Bible in 90 days.

It’s not to late to join the Bible in 90 Days at Mom’s Toolbox.

(um….yeah….that’s not my Bible in the picture….I used it because I would love to have a scroll. 🙂   )

What’s For Dinner?

July 5, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Last week was a good week, I stuck to the menu! lol

My husband has Monday off, so we’re having our 4th of July cook out then. It works out good for us, since we’re busy at church on Sunday.

Now for this weeks menu:

Saturday – beef – Leftovers, tomatoes

Sunday – sandwich day – Fish Fry and Fireworks at church tonight

Monday – chicken – Cook-out – hamburgers with fixings, brats, salads, chips, carrots, watermelon, s’mores

Tuesday – beef – Roast in the crockpot with veggies

Wednesday – super simple – leftovers, salad

Thursday – chicken – Roasted Turkey, sweet potatoes, salad- If I feel well enough, I’ll make homemade stuffing instead of the sweet potatoes from the freezer.

Friday – Friday Night Fire – Hot dogs, macaroni salad or potato salad, carrot sticks

Wait

July 4, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

There was something going on in my life a few years ago, and I was crying out in prayer to the Lord, when He told me to wait. Just one word. Wait. It was enough.

Even though I KNOW it was the Lord speaking to me, waiting is hard!

Job 35:14
Although you say you do not see Him,Yet justice is before Him, and you must wait for Him.

Psalm 27:14
Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!

Psalm 33:20
Our soul waits for the LORD;He is our help and our shield.

Psalm 39:7
“And now, Lord, what do I wait for?My hope is in You.

Psalm 59:9
I will wait for You, O You his Strength; For God is my defense.

Oh, but the joy and blessings that come from waiting! Blessings that would be missed out on, if we didn’t wait on the Lord.

Saturday on the Farm

July 3, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Saturday on the Farm

We had much better weather this week. Not as hot and no where near as humid. So we were able to get out and work in the garden some. And boy does it need it!

We’ve been enjoying eating sugar snap peas. The plants are about gone now. It will be time soon to plant another crop of them. I need to plant more this time, so some will actually make it into the freezer. We all love them, and can often be found standing in the garden eating them right off the vine.

We also enjoyed our first red, ripe tomato this week. I see a few others out there that are almost ready. I’ll try and remember to take a picture before we eat them this time. lol

The blackberries are getting ripe. If the kids pick enough, I’ll make cobbler and jelly. As well as freeze some for cobbler and pie in the winter.

The green beans are getting big. Soon we’ll be eating our full of them, as well as canning them.

And look at the pretty little summer squash that’s about ready to eat. If we get enough, I will also can the squash. I tried it for the first time last year. Their ok, but by the time I bring them to a boil for serving, they are too soggy. So I would like to try again, and see if I can improve. In the past, I’ve always frozen them, but since getting my pressure canner last year, I would like to can more stuff and leave the freezer space for other things. Like meat, and brownies. lol

I watching the goats on the hill. This is the hill right behind our house. The goats climb up and down like it’s nothing, but the top part, above the dirt there, is pretty steep. Us humans have a hard time. Well, the adults. lol The children can also climb up and down pretty easily.

Here’s the sign hanging on our barn.

lol I love that sign! The goats won’t attack, but they have been known to scare people by checking their (the peoples) pockets to see if they have anything to eat. lol

I put the flower pictures in another post. It works better to split the pictures up, instead of one super long post.

Ok, it’s time for the Saturday on the Farm Carnival!

To participate, just write a post about your homestead, farm, farmette, or the tomato plant on your deck. Your cows, goats, chicken, or your favorite kitty cat.

In your post, include a link back to me. Then enter your link below.

Homemade Detangler Spray

July 2, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

With all of us girls in the house having long hair, we have had more than our share of tangles and static. Those detangler sprays in the store are expensive.

So I make my own! Make sure you clearly mark the spray bottle with a permenant marker. You know how little kids like to get into stuff!

Homemade Detangler Spray

I squirt about a tablespoon of conditioner into a small spray bottle and fill with water. Shake and your done! It doesn’t get any easier than that!

It works great on tangles and static electricity in hair. You can spray it directly on the hair. Just make sure little eyes are closed! I like to spray it on my hair brush, then brush my hair.

And I’ve also been known to spray it on my skirts! lol It eliminates static cling.

It’s Friday!

July 2, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Welcome to Linda’s Lunacy!

It’s been a busy week here, even though I wasn’t in the kitchen very much this week. Just long enough to do some, menu planning and make Frozen Lemonade, so refreshing on a hot summer day.

I also shared how we use a saltwater system for our swimming pool, the homeschool books on my shelves, And what I’m reading this week.

I joined Word Filled Wednesday this week with a picture that I took.

And, of course, I was at the Saturday on the Farm Carnival, and in the garden, where I found a praying mantis.

Friday’s mean a chance to meet new people at these blog hops:

Homeschool Books on My Shelf

July 1, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I love books. I love reading. I love homeschooling. So, therefore, I have read a lot of homeschooling books. And have owned quite a few over our 19 years of homeschooling. Although, if you count homeschooling from birth, it has been 24 years.

Below are the homeschool books currently on my shelves. The list changes a lot, though. We now have more high school books, than younger grades. I have gotten rid of quite a few of our Dr. Raymond & Dorothy Moore books, as they deal with getting started. One I found especially useful was Better Late, Than Early, it’s great of you have young boys.

How to Write Your Own No Cost, Low Cost Curriculum was another favorite of mine in the early years.

These are the homeschool books currently on my shelves.

Home-Schooling All The Way Through High School by Renee Mason

Parents Guide to the Best Books for Children by Eden Ross Lipson

The New Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trealease

The Homeschooling Revolution by Isabel Lyman

Home Learning Year by Year by Rebecca Rupp

The Successful Homeschool Family Handbook by Raymond & Dorothy Moore

The Christian Homeschool by Greg Harris

Homeschooling and the Law by Michael P. Farris

State vs. Parents Threats to Raising Your Children by John W. Whitehead

What Your 3rd Grader Needs to Know by E. D. Hirsch

What Your 4th Grader Needs to Know by E. D. Hirsch

What Your 5th Grader Needs to Know by E. D. Hirsch

The Guidance Manual for the Christian Home School by David and Laurie Callihan

The Big Book of Home Learning Volume 3 Junior High to College by Mary Pride

A Survivors Guide to Homeschooling by Luanne Shackelford and Susan White

Homeschooling: A Patchwork of Days by Nancy Lande

Things We Wish We’d Known by Bill & Diana Waring

I also used to have What Your — Grader Needs To Know for Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd Grade. Since my youngest is going into 4th, I will mostly likely be trading off the 3rd Grade book. Might add the 6th, you never know.

My favorite place to trade off books and get more books is PaperBack Swap, link is in the sidebar.

Anyone know of any other great homeschooling books I must read?

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
