W.W.W. Wednesday

June 2, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

* What are you currently reading? – Praying God’s Word by Beth Moore This book is different than her other books that I have read. Every chapter has several pages of Bible verses that pertain to the subject of that chapter. Yeah, I’m still reading this. I got sidetracked with the other book I was reading.

* What did you recently finish reading? – The Messianic Church Arising! by Dr. Robert D. Heidler I am just about finished with this book. I reading the appendix now. The book contains a lot of church history. But not in a boring way, it’s very, very interesting. It also has the most complete information for Christians who want to celebrate the Biblical Feasts then I have seen so far. That’s why it’s taking me so long to read this book. I’m taking my time, enjoying it, and learning lots! I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the early church and the Biblical Feasts. If you want to draw closer to God, this book is a must read.

* What do you think you’ll read next? – Indivisible by Kristen Heitzmann “a spellbinding tale of true connections severed and the devastating consequences of life lived alone” – from the back of the book. My daughter read it and she said it was pretty good.

Vegetable Prep For Salads

June 2, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

We all love to eat salads, even the kids. I like to have salads for lunch, too, not just for supper.

If I wait until mealtime everyday, that’s a lot of vegetable prep. Twice some days.

So my solution is to prep lots of veggies at the beginning of the week. I keep each vegetable separate in its own bowl. It’s such a time saver to peel and chop everything at once. And clean up is much easier, also.

I often serve them like this for supper, instead of mixing the salad together in a big bowl. That way, everyone can pick what they want. I like more carrots on my salad then everyone else, and I eat most of the raw beets. My husband will have a few beets on his salad, but not many.

Besides, the beets turn everything pink. lol

Mom, I’m Bored!!

June 2, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

It’s the “Mom, I’m Bored” Special Edition of Works for Me Wednesday.

When my kids say they are bored, I give them work to do. Even visiting kids know not to let me here them say they are bored.

I asked my kids what they would want me to say, when they said “Mom, I’m bored!”.

Zach, age 10 next month!, said, “Play the Wii for as many hours as you want to.” um……. NO!

Abigail, age 11, said, “Bring a kitten in the house and give me a paying job.” Ah, she’s willing for work for money!

Hannah, age 14 said, “I’ll buy you a new book!”

Calen, age 15 said, “You can play on the computer and the Wii, and I’ll let you rearrange the entire house. Here’s the keys, go take a drive.” Yeah, he likes to organize the house, problem is, we can’t find anything after he does! And the driving thing? NO!!!

So, You can ask your kids now, before they are actually bored during their summer vacation, what they would want you to say. Then when they actually say they are bored, you can give them their ideas!

My New Laptop

June 1, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Look at this!

I finally got a new laptop!

I’m loving it!

It was hard work, though, getting a wireless network set up and getting all my info transferred from the desktop to the laptop.

Considering I’ve never had anything to do with wireless networks before, and my tech guy, aka my son, being 15, and never having anything to do with wireless networks before, this was a big job!

But we muddled through. I even managed to transfer all my files over. This morning I figured out how to sync my Google Chrome bookmarks between the desktop and the laptop. Which is of major importance!

My son-in-law come over last night and did some touch up on the wireless network. Seems that Windows 7 likes to hog the wireless network. Which was totally not a problem for me, but the others in the house weren’t so pleased that they were having a hard time.

I have had my new laptop for less than 48 hours, and I’m extremely happy with it! And now my brain can rest from all the hard work, and enjoy it!

Homemade Fruit Fly Trap

May 31, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Fruit Flies are so annoying. They seem to come from nowhere, and they won’t leave!

For a few years, I’ve used a homemade fruit fly trap.

I put a small piece of fruit or fruit peel in a small glass bowl. I tightly cover with plastic wrap. That’s why the bowl has to be glass, so you can get a tight seal. I then make a couple of holes in the plastic wrap with the tip of a sharp knife.

The fruit flies fly in, but the can’t get out!

I then take it outside to dispose of the fruit and the flies.

I recently discovered another fruit fly trap at Passionate Homemaking

I will be trying one this summer, when the fruit flies are most annoying.

Saturday on the Farm

May 29, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Saturday on the Farm

It’s been a peaceful week on Crooked Creek Farm. Even the animals were laying around peacefully.

Meet Samson our male Boer Cross goat. He’s laying on top of the hay trough. I don’t how that thing holds him up, because he’s big.

The garden is doing well. And as you can see from the pictures, we haven’t been able to get out there and weed. There is enough spinach ready for a salad.

And look at our first tomato! I haven’t told my husband about it yet, or he’d want to make Fried Green Tomatoes!

These are wild black raspberries growing in our yard. We thought they were blackberries at first, as we have a lot of blackberries in our year. My husband looked them up, and they are black raspberries. They are so delicious!

These buds will be red raspberries very soon.

A red raspberry blossom.

Our Red Bud tree has so many seed pods this year. The whole tree looks like this. I’ve never seen so many before.

Ok, it’s time for the Saturday on the Farm Carnival!

To participate, just write a post about your homestead, farm, farmette, or the tomato plant on your deck. Your cows, goats, chicken, or your favorite kitty cat.

In your post, include a link back to me. Then enter your link below.

It’s that easy! Hope to see your link below!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
