W.W.W. Wednesdays

May 26, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

* What are you currently reading? – Praying God’s Word by Beth Moore This book is different than her other books that I have read. Every chapter has several pages of Bible verses that pertain to the subject of that chapter.

and

The Messianic Church Arising! by Dr. Robert D. Heidler Looks like it talks about the early church, Biblical feasts, and what the church will look like in the future.

* What did you recently finish reading? – I didn’t finish any this week! gasp!

* What do you think you’ll read next? – Indivisible by Kristen Heitzmann “a spellbinding tale of true connections severed and the devastating consequences of life lived alone” – from the back of the book. My daughter read it and she said it was pretty good.

Hillbilly Housewife

May 25, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

The internet is full of recipes, and recipe sites. One of my favorites is Hillbilly Housewife.

I use their flour tortillas all the time.

The kids really love their Magic Milkshakes. No ice cream required!

What are some of your favorite recipe sites?

Hospitality

May 24, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I recently heard about this book, A Christian Woman’s Guide to HospitalityAmazon Link, it sounded like a good book, so I found it on Paperback Swap. I just checked, and they don’t have any listed right now.

I’m so glad I found this book! From making our homes a blessing to others, to blessing our families, to blessing others outside of our homes. From decorating to manners to involving our kids. This book has so much information and and so many suggestions. If you can find this book, I highly recommend it to everyone.

Here’s a picture of my book. Notice all the post it’s sticking out of the book? That’s how good it is.

One suggestion in the book was, if your having a party, go ahead and have parties two days in a row. Your house is already clean. The work is already done, your ready to entertain.

So I decided to put this advice to the test. On Saturday we had 2 parties. Notice they suggested two days in a row. I’m just crazy enough to try two in one day.

From 11-3 We had a cook out for everyone involved in Bible Drill at our church. We did this last year, too, as a way to congratulate the kids for all their hard work, and as a way to thank the teachers for their work with our kids. Everyone had a good time.

Then at 6, we had a Schwanns House Party. They provided the Schwanns food, so cooking was easy. It all went in the oven, except for the green bean fries. I cooked them in the fryer. I had never heard of green bean fries before, but they were so good!

It was relatively easy to clean up from the cookout, rest, and get ready for the next party. I did use disposable plates, cups, forks and paper napkins at both, except we used real forks inside at the house party. It really made clean up so much easier.

My family even agreed that it was easier to do two parties in a row.

So I highly recommend this book, as well as having people in your home. If your not as insane as I am, you might want to do one party one day, and the second party the next day.

What’s For Dinner?

May 24, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

We buy beef from a friend, and Saturday we had a freezer full delivered. We’ve been out of this beef for a couple of months, and I’m so glad to be able to add it back in. When you get used to this kind of beef, store bought just has a funny taste to it.

Now for this weeks menu:

Saturday – beef – Schwanns House Party – soooooo much fun!

Sunday – sandwich day – Dinner at church

Monday – chicken – roasted chicken,rice, salad

Tuesday – beef – roast, potatoes, carrots in crockpot

Wednesday – super simple – leftovers, I’m pretty sure there will be leftovers, I ‘m trying anyway, if not, we’ll have breakfast for supper

Thursday – chicken – Chicken Potato Pie from the The $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook (amazon.com link) We ended up not having this last week, so I’m adding it back in this week.

Friday – Friday Night Fire – Hot dogs, carrots, macaroni or potato salad

Saturday on the Farm

May 22, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Saturday on the Farm

This week, our major project was building a rabbit hutch. I got the idea for building it from watching this video, Self-Sufficiency: Part One, it’s a very interesting tour of this guys property. He showed these rabbit hutches, and it’s just what we needed.

This is our new rabbit hutch in our backyard.  That’s a hinged door on top. So we can fold back half of it, for access to the rabbits.
We will be covering the door in plastic to protect it from the weather. We still might paint the wood. Beast, the large male on the left, was chewing the wood shortly after being moved into his new home. We’ll have to wait and see if he stops, Hopefully, he does,  or he really will be eating himself out of house and home!
We have chicken wire on the sides, and wire with small square openings in it, I don’t know what it’s called, on the bottom. We can rake the droppings out from under the bottom, and put them in the compost pile. Here’s a view from the top.

All the rabbits seem to really like their new home. These are pet rabbits. We would like to get fiber rabbits, though. I have been out voted on meat rabbits.

Ok, it’s time for the Saturday on the Farm Carnival!

To participate, just write a post about your homestead, farm, farmette, or the tomato plant on your deck. Your cows, goats, chicken, or your favorite kitty cat.

Passion Flower

May 22, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I have had this Passion Flower plant for about 4 years now. I bring it in the house over the winter. This winter it went crazy! It took over the whole dining room. This picture is a little dark, but you can see it growing up around, behind and around the blinds. If you look close, you can see a vine going up the wall behind the picture and up to the corner.

It grew up behind the picture and heading around the corner. The kids wanted to see how far it would grow over the winter, so they put tacks up for the vine to cling to. This vine was green, but started to turn brown just in the last couple of weeks. I don’t know why all the leaves turned brown, though. It was only that one vine.

The vine left the blinds and started to grow out into the middle of the dining room. I think it was going for the light fixture. Either that, or it was trying to attach to the kids. lol

In this picture, below, you can see two buds. The top one already closed, but the bottom hadn’t opened yet in this picture. If you look close at the above picture, you can see the buds, also.

The vine went up behind the blinds, and out through the top.

This flower is the bottom bud from above that oped this week. I think they are so beautiful!

After this flower closed, I gave the vine a trimming and moved it outside for the summer. Here it is in it’s new home in the Bible Garden.

Don’t feel to bad for the poor Passion Flower, in a few weeks it will have grown to cover all the supports in the pot, and will attempt to grow over the whole Bible Garden.

We haven’t had any fruit from it yet. I’m still holding out hope, though. We had it for about 3 years before it bloomed for the first time. Maybe the fruit will still come.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
