Online Flashcards

May 21, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I found this really cool website where you can make your own Online Flashcards. You don’t have to print them out, you use them online.

I’m going to use these for Bible Drill memorization.

Homemade Fabric Refresher

May 21, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I like to use a fabric refresher spray once in a while on my furniture. Yes, the store bought ones work, but they are expensive. And exactly what is in them? Even if you read the label, you still don’t know what’s in it.

I just don’t like breathing in chemicals and what about the kids rolling around on the furniture? Are they getting chemicals on their skin?

So I make my own. Here’s how:

I fill a clean spray bottle 1/4 of the way with white vinegar. I fill the rest of the way with water, then add essential oil. I use about 20 drops, but you can adjust this according to how strong you want the smell to be. Lavender is my favorite essential oil to use for everything. I also like to use grapefruit, it has a nice refreshing scent. Just shake the bottle well, and spray. You will need to shake before each use to make sure the oil is mixed in.

Of course, try it first on an inconspicuous place to make sure it is safe for the fabric on your furniture.

Jag

May 20, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

This recipe came from my husband’s family. They got it from a lady from Portugal when she made it for them. They said she made hers with fish.

Everyone loves Jag. Even kids!

Jag

2 Tablespoons butter
1 onion, diced
1 can kidney beans, drained
1 can great northern beans, drained
1 pound linguica, smoked sausage, kielbasa or your favorite meat sliced or diced
1 package hot dogs
4 cups rice, long grain, par boiled
8 cups water
2-4 beef bouillon cubes
salt and pepper to taste

Saute onions, hot dogs, and meat until browned. Add beans, rice, water and seasonings. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer covered until the rice is done. Usually 30 minutes.

This is such a versatile dish. You can use whatever beans, vegetables and meat you want. You can even leave out the bouillon cubes. It still tastes great. If your using chicken, you can put in a little poultry seasoning. If your want more meat, use it, it will still come out fine. Does the recipe make too much? Use less rice and water, 2 cups rice and 4 cups water.

You can add celery, green peppers, cabbage, potatoes, chicken, hamburger, fish. Really, any vegetables and meat that you like can be put in. Have leftover meat and veggies you want to use? Throw them in the pot, too!

WWW Wednesday

* What are you currently reading? – Praying God’s Word by Beth Moore This book is different than her other books that I have read. Every chapter has several pages of Bible verses that pertain to the subject of that chapter.

* What did you recently finish reading? – Presenting Miss Jane Austen by May Lamberton Beeker This is a biography of the novelist Jane Austen. This book was good, it had a different feel to it then the biographies that I usually read. Maybe it was because it was written in 1952? If you have an interest in Jane Austen, then you’ll like it. I’m not sure it would hold the attention of someone who wasn’t interested in Jane Austen or liked her books. The book has some lovely drawings. It’s intended for children also, it says ages 12 and up on the back.

Gifted Hands The Ben Carson Story by Ben Carson, M.D. I pulled this book out for my daughter to read. It was just sitting on the table staring at me. So I re-read it. lol I love this book. It’s an autobiography of Dr. Carson that follows him from the inner city, where he was a kid with poor grades to being a pediatric neurosurgeon. This is really an excellent book. He talks about his life growing up, college, medical school, and tells about some of his surgery cases. Including separating conjoined twins.

* What do you think you’ll read next? – The Messianic Church Arising! by Dr. Robert D. Heidler Looks like it talks about the early church, Biblical feasts, and what the church will look like in the future.

A Different Kind of Voting Experience

May 19, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Our primary election day was yesterday. Only one senator race on the ballot, the rest were local elections. So I went and exercised my right to vote.

I went alone. Well, I went with my husband in the morning before he went to work. We didn’t take the kids with us.

I always take the kids to vote with me. We all crowd around and I vote. I have always taken all the kids. Even the teenagers that still want to go. It’s good for them. When they turn 18 and can vote, it’s not some new, strange thing to them. They already know how to do it. They can concentrate on the who, instead of the how. You know, the important part.

It felt so lonely by myself yesterday. A peek into what the future will be like. Just one little old lady all by herself.

Might have to drag the grandkids with me to keep me from being so lonely. If I ever get any.

Homemade Dish Scrubber

May 18, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I usually keep a metal dish scrubber on hand for my cast iron pans. Our last one fell apart last week, and I forgot to put a new one on the shopping list. oops!

Today I needed to scrub a pan. What to do? I remembered reading that some people make there own scrubbies out of orange and onion bags. I had an orange bag, so I used it.

I tied it in knots, and it worked great as a scrubbie!

The best part was I didn’t have to go to the store just so I could wash dishes. You know I can’t go in and just buy a scrubbie! lol

What’s For Dinner?

May 17, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Well, I tried to have an assigned leftover night. How come, when I don’t plan a night for leftovers, we have lots? I start planning a leftover night, and suddenly, there are no leftovers!

So I’m going back to no planned leftover night.

We ended up not having a fire on Friday night. When I planned the menu, I forgot that that was the night of the Mother’s Day Tea at church. The guys had left overs, while the girls ate at the tea.

Now for this weeks menu:

Saturday – beef – Spaghetti with meat sauce, salad

Sunday – sandwich day – Bean & Cheese burritos, salad

Monday – chicken – Chicken wings, baked potatoes, salad

Tuesday – beef – Chili Beef and Cabbage

Wednesday – super simple – fish filets, rice, salad

Thursday – chicken – Chicken Potato Pie from the The $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook (amazon.com link)

Friday – Friday Night Fire – hmmm..since we’re having people over for a cookout tomorrow, we probably won’t have a fire tonight. If there’s leftovers, we’ll have that, otherwise, we’ll have breakfast for supper.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

John 3:16-17 NKJV
