The homelessness statistics are heartbreaking. Americans With No Address is a documentary that investigates the homeless crisis in America and captures the untold stories of those experiencing homelessness while at the same time trying to find answers to the problem.

Watch the Americans With No Address Trailer

Synopsis:

The producers of the feature film No Address wanted to have a better understanding of what homelessness truly looks like across the U.S. They were interested in learning more about what solutions have been implemented and proven to show positive change in the communities they visited and ultimately produced their findings in their documentary, Americans With No Address. Our production team toured the country for several weeks, visiting and filming interviews in 20 major cities across 18 states facing various rates of homelessness. The team interviewed policy leaders, mission directors, clinical specialists, CEOs of national nonprofits, executive directors of local and regional nonprofits, influencers, those who had experienced homelessness, and those who were still struggling. Trauma, mental health, substance abuse, lack of affordable housing, and economics are all factors for the drastic increase in homelessness in our country. Several scenes from the feature film No Address appear in the documentary, providing a narrative perspective of these various issues. The documentary Americans with No Address is impactful as it went to great depths to uncover the truth about homelessness, while spotlighting the solutions of what it will really take to heal our nation of this tragedy.

Americans With No Address is now available to rent/watch online.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever Movie Review

November 6, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Nobody is ready for the mayhem and surprises that ensue when six of the worst youngsters disrupt the town’s yearly Christmas performance. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is the greatest story ever told – by the worst kids in the history of the world.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Synopsis:

The Herdman kids are absolutely the worst. They lie, they steal, they bully…and they’ve hijacked the town Christmas pageant. Directed by Dallas Jenkins (“The Chosen”) and based on the international bestseller by Barbara Robinson, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever follows six siblings who sneak into church searching for snacks and walk away with the lead roles in the town pageant. Grace (Judy Greer) is directing the performance for the very first time; she and her daughter Beth (Molly Belle Wright) and husband Bob (Pete Holmes) are less than amused. But the play’s mischievous stars might unwittingly teach a community the true meaning of Christmas. Featuring Lauren Graham. Screenplay by Ryan Swanson and Platte F. Clark & Darin McDaniel.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever Movie Review

I loved this movie!! The film is based on a book. I haven’t read the book. Yet. So my opinion isn’t based on the book. But they 100% got all the characters right! The The judgy church women that wanted everything to be like it had always been. The quiet mom that usually stays in the background. Until called forward by circumstances, then shines. The whole group of kids that are afraid of the town bullies. And the town bullies that don’t really want to be bad. They just haven’t been taught any different.

There are so many funny parts in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. A couple of parts that are kind of sad. That make you realize why the bullies are the way they are. Many more heart warming moments. And the pageant itself on Christmas Eve. This. When you look at the Nativity through the eyes of someone discovering the true meaning of Christmas for the first time. It made me cry! Really!

This is my new favorite Christmas movie!! I highly recommend you take your whole family to see this movie. I predict that The Best Christmas Pageant Ever becomes the new Christmas classic movie!

The Carpenter Movie Review

November 4, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

The Carpenter is unlike any movie set in Biblical times that I have ever seen. Seen through the life of a fighter, this is a modern depiction of an ancient story.

The Carpenter

Synopsis: An adopted viking orphan becomes a carpenter’s apprentice to Jesus. The orphan, Oren, fights as a side hustle. His experience training as a carpenter with Jesus as his mentor changes his lifestyle.

I loved The Carpenter. It’s a very unique telling of a story from that time period. I thought it was very well done. The villages, the costumes. The fight scenes were made to look real. Although, while there is some blood shown on faces and hands, it is not gory. There is much less blood shown in this movie than in others with fight scenes. The editing of some of the action scenes was unusual. Certain parts of the scenes were shown in slow motion, in the middle of the scene. I enjoyed it, though.

Watch the Trailer!

The Carpenter Movie Review

Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from the movie. I can’t list all my favorites, there are too many!

“The goodness comes from the man who provides it to those in need. We are just serving it for him” – Aria

“The Father does not like to see his children suffer. But if he healed everyone when they wanted, it would deny them the chance to learn to avoid the pain and consequences.” – Yeshua

The Carpenter Movie Review

The scenes of Oren in the carpentry shop were full of lessons for all of us from Yeshua. These lessons change Oren’s life. He meets and falls in love, and gets married. Yeshua leaves town, and Oren finishes a big project they were working on. A couple of men come to pick up the project, a big table. The table is in the next scene of the last supper. Then Jesus is betrayed, and the screen goes black while we hear nails being hit with a hammer. The crucifixion scene is not shown. Jesus is resurrected, but a scene depicting that is not shown.

The Carpenter Movie Review

The movie ends with a very touching scene. Considering all the fight scenes, I wasn’t expecting the love between Yeshua and Oren to be the last scene. I loved the ending. It was just perfect.

The Carpenter is an action/drama/faith based movie. There are intense fight scenes, and slow moving dialogue scenes. This movie is rated PG-13. I recommend you stick to that age guideline. If you have a young teen that is sensitive to fighting, I suggest you watch The Carpenter first to see if it is appropriate for your teen.

Lost on a Mountain in Maine Movie Review

October 23, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Lost on a Mountain in Maine is the inspiring true story of 12-year-old Donn Fendler who, separated from his family by a fast-moving storm, must fight to stay alive while lost for nine-days in the remote wilderness of northern Maine. Donn’s disappearance captures national headlines and sparks a massive search effort attracting hundreds of volunteers, including his own father who fears he may never see his son again.

Lost on a Mountain in Maine

The movie starts with one of the searchers telling about getting lost on the mountain. How after 9 days, he thought they were looking for a body.

We then go back to 1939, to see the Fendler family, and their dynamics. After having to cancel a big fishing trip with his sons, he takes the three boys on a hike up the mountain so he can get back to work sooner. The weather was not cooperating, so Dad said he was calling it, and heading back down. Donn did not want to quit. The guide agreed to take him up to the top, so his father told him to go ahead and sent Donn’s twin brother with him.

The guide finally told the boys to head back down due to the worsening weather. But Donn, didn’t want to, and took off to continue climbing to the top. He fell, then he couldn’t find the trail again in the fog, and rain.

Watch the Trailer!

The father and the guide searched, but could not find him. They went for more help, but Donn was so far off the trail that they couldn’t find him.

Included throughout the movie are clips of the searcher talking about mountain conditions, and getting lost on the mountain. Also included are clips of Donn’s brother Ryan, his mother, and a park ranger, among others. The best was Donn himself talking about how he survived.

My favorite part is when they show actual black and white video footage when Donn was found.

Lost on a Mountain in Maine is such an incredible story. In my opinion, they did an awesome job of conveying what it was like for a child to be lost on the mountain. This film does contain several instances of mild language. I only remember hearing it during the interviews, not in the actual movie portion.

The movie is based on the best selling book Lost on a Mountain in Maine, written by Donn Fendler. I have not read the book yet, but now I want to!

Now I highly recommend that you go see the movie!

Lost on a Mountain in Maine opens in theaters November 1st!

Average Joe Movie Review

October 10, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

From the director and producers of God’s Not Dead and the producers of The Blind comes Average Joe, in theaters beginning October 11. When I found out about this movie, I knew had to see it!

Average Joe - A new Movie!

High school football coach Joe Kennedy had no other choice but to fight. A childhood in foster care followed by 20 years in the Marine Corps was nothing compared to his biggest battle: his commitment to stand for God publicly by taking a knee in prayer after each game. When he was fired, Joe and his wife Denise knew this battle for religious freedom, freedom of speech, and the rights of all Americans was one they would have to fight—no matter the cost.

Watch the Trailer…..

Average Joe Movie Review

The movie starts with present day Joe telling his story through flashbacks. Starting with adoption, abuse, fighting, ultimately being left by his adopted parents, then left when they moved so he couldn’t find them. He ends up in a boys home. It also tells the story of how he met his wife when they were kids, and everything they went through, both as kids and as adults.

Joe had never been a football coach before, when he was asked to coach a high school team. He had only played when he was in the Marines. It’s inspiring to see him use what he learned to teach the kids about leadership, teamwork, and family. Since he was a Christian, he prayed with the team after games. Which led to him being told to stop. Then he entered into a different fight. Not only him, but his wife as well.

I remember when this was on the news. His fight for religious freedom is a fight that is important to us all. The first 35 minutes have some intense scenes of his childhood that are not for young kids. That’s what earned it a PG-13 rating. The rest of the movie can be viewed by the whole family. Average Joe is an awesome movie, with an awesome story. When his foster dad from the group home comes to see him at a football game, it is truly heart warming.

Average Joe follows Joe’s story from childhood, to the Supreme Court. Be sure to stay for the credits to hear more about the court case and how important it is to all Americans. I highly recommend you see Average Joe!

White Bird Movie Review

October 4, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

*This White Bird Movie Review contains affiliate links

Before I get to White Bird, I’m going to backtrack for a minute.

Do you remember the movie Wonder? 10 year old Auggie Pullman had a genetic disorder that required multiple facial surgeries. Unfortunately, he was bullied by a classmate. Wonder is an awesome move. However, you do not have to watch it first. But you should watch it at some point!

So let’s continue on to White Bird……..

From the world of Wonder, which sparked a movement to “choose kind,” comes the inspirational next chapter: White Bird. Struggling to fit in at his new school after being expelled for his treatment of Auggie Pullman, Julian is visited by his grandmother and is transformed by the compassionate and heroic story of her attempts to escape Nazi-occupied France during WWII.

The New White Bird Movie

Watch the Trailer!

White Bird Movie Review

From the director of Finding Neverland, White Bird reminds us to be brave and choose kind. White Bird stars Ariella Glaser, Orlando Schwerdt, Bryce Gheisar, with Gillian Anderson, and Helen Mirren. This movie is rated PG-13. It has some very intense scenes, so I recommend sticking to watching this with your teens, and not younger kids. This is a riveting movie. Oh my goodness. My heart was pounding in some places. Because there are scenes that depict some of the horrible things that happened during the Holocaust.

While fear, grief, and horror are represented, there is a message of hope. The kind of hope that comes from someone doing something kind for you, without asking anything in return. Kindness that can never be repaid.

“When kindness can cost you your life, it becomes like a miracle”

“You forget many things in life. But you never forget kindness. Like love, it stays with you forever.”

In the end, after hearing his grandmother’s story, Julian learned an important lesson about kindness. And how to practice kindness. Thereby changing not only his life, but the lives of those around him.

I highly, highly recommend seeing this incredible movie! The cast, the scenery, the storyline, the directing, all come together to make it incredible.
