Someone Like You Movie Review & Giveaway

April 2, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Someone Like You is the new movie based on the popular novel by #1 NY Times Bestselling author Karen Kingsbury. She is a prolific author that has written over 100 books.

Someone Like You is an achingly beautiful redemptive love story. Shocking news hits after young architect Dawson Gage loses his best friend, London Quinn. Now in his heartbreak, Dawson is compelled to launch an impossible search for London’s secret twin sister, twins separated as embryos. But along the way, Dawson never planned to fall in love.

Someone Like You stars Sarah Fisher, Jake Allyn, Lynn Collins, Robyn Lively, Bart Johnson, and Scott Reeves.

London had no idea that she had a twin sister out there somewhere. Her parents had never found “the right time” to tell her. After her death, London’s parents told Dawson their well kept secret. He missed his friend so much, that it was unfathomable to him that he wouldn’t look for her twin.

There was one catch, though. London’s twin sister Andi did not know she was adopted.

So when Dawson found her, she didn’t believe him. When she told her parents about meeting him, they finally told her the story of her birth.

I can relate to this, as my mother was adopted. She found out she had a half sibling when they were both adults, their mother having already passed. Her sibling had no idea she existed, because their mother never told them. I witnessed how hard it was to receive this shocking news.

Someone Like You Movie Review

I loved Someone Like You. The love of family is my favorite theme of this movie.. The biological parents loving so much that they donated their frozen embryo to another couple. And the love they carried in their hearts for her, believing that they would never see her in person. Then finally getting to meet, and spend time with her. The love of adopted parents for the child they birthed and raised. The child they never meant to hurt by not telling her she was adopted. And the love that Dawson found with London’s twin sister, Andi.

Faith is another favorite of mine in this movie. How God can heal our hurting hearts, and give us hope for the future.

Someone Like You is rated PG, and suitable for the whole family.

Ordinary Angels Movie Review

February 22, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Ordinary Angels is based on a remarkable true story. The movie centers on Sharon (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky. She is having problems of her own, including an addiction to alcohol, and a son that won’t speak to her. But she discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters.

Ordinary Angels opens with the birth of his youngest daughter, Michelle. Then we see her mother dying from liver failure. Now Michelle is herself waiting for a liver transplant. Michele has an older sister, Ashley, who loves and cares for her little sister.

Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is the inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels. Sharon would not take no for an answer. She rallied the whole community, including businesses and the local tv station, to get this family what they needed.

Ordinary Angels is a great reminder to us all. We can, and should, step up to help others in our community. The size doesn’t matter. It may be donating a meal, clothing, or organizing a fundraiser for medical bills. We can make a difference in the lives of those in our community! See below for a way you can be an ordinary angel by helping others with medical bills.

Ordinary Angels Review

Ordinary Angels is rated PG. It is suitable for the whole family. I do like to let parents know what is in movies so they can decide if it is appropriate for their kids. In this movie there is a short bar scene, along with alcohol consumption in another scene. There is also smoking, and a moment when two characters are shown with blood on their clothes, from Michelle being sick.

Ordinary Angels is truly an amazing story of how one person can make a huge difference in the lives of others.

I loved this movie. Hilary Swank did a phenomenal job of portraying Sharon. There are sad parts, and happy parts. Moments when you can feel the characters defeat. And moments when you celebrate their victories with them. You can feel the humanity of these characters, as they go through situations that we ourselves, or others we know, have been through.

When you see this movie, be sure to stay for the credits. You’ll see the real Michelle, her family, and the real Sharon.

County Rescue Review

February 15, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

EMTs are courageous, hardworking, everyday heroes, that are often overlooked. Until you need them. County Rescue is the new, original series on Great American Family channel, and streaming on Great American Pure Flix. This is the story of an EMT unit who save lives while navigating their own life, love, and faith.

County Rescue Review

While County Recuse is about EMTs, it’s not just a medical show. This show concentrates on the relationships between the EMTs.

Their relationships with each other, their families, and with God. Their faith is foremost in all their conversations.

“I want to be who God wants me to be.” was said by one of the characters. To me, this feels like the theme of the EMTs on County Rescue.

County Rescue is suitable for the whole family because there are no gory medical scenes. However, the themes of some of the episodes may make it not suitable for your younger kids. Suicide is one of the themes in a couple of the episodes. If you have a teen sensitive to this issue, you might want to watch it first to see if it is suitable for them.

Watch the County Rescue Trailer

A couple of the episodes deal with one of EMTs having repeated problems with alcohol. He had his fellow paramedics called for him a couple of times. With their encouragement, he was able to move forward with his life, recover, and go to rehab. In a later episode, he acknowledges to the EMTs that he wouldn’t have survived, and wouldn’t have had the courage to go to rehab, if it wasn’t for them.

Over the course of a few episodes, we see Dani feeling called to be an EMT. As a new rookie, her family questions her decision. In one episode, she was going to quit because of her past, and her family always telling her she couldn’t do it. She decided she didn’t want to be that person anymore. She wanted to be who God wanted her to be. So she withdrew her resignation and returned to work. And that very next shift, she was able to talk a young woman out of committing suicide. She said “I was thinking maybe God had me here just for her”.

I love a good medical show. but I I loved how this show concentrates more on the people and their relationships, then it does the medical aspect. I enjoyed watching County Rescue, and I look forward to seeing more episodes in the future.

The Shift Movie Review

December 1, 2023 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

This is not the typical genre of movies that I watch, but I thought the storyline sounded interesting. I’m glad I watched! The Shift is a dystopian drama and sci-fi thriller.

In The Shift, one man is faced with infinite worlds and impossible choices. When Kevin Garner meets a nefarious adversary known as The Benefactor and refuses his offer of wealth and power, he must escape an alternate totalitarian reality. With survival on the line, Kevin fights to make it back to the world he knows and the woman he loves.

The Shift Movie Review

The Shift, rated PG-13, is a pretty intense movie. If you have sensitive teens, I suggest you watch it first. So you can make the decision if they are ready to see it.

Even though it’s not my usual movie genre, I really liked The Shift. If you are familiar with the book of Job, you might recognize the storyline. This movie is a unique interpretation of the book of Job, though.

Kevin loses everything, and the Benefactor offers him everything, more than he could ever imagine having. But Kevin knows what truly matters, resists the Benefactor, and does everything he can to return to his home and wife. While the storyline may follow the story of Job, it looks very different than the story of Job from the Bible.

Watch the trailer!

The Shift stars

Kristoffer Polaha as Kevin Garner,
Elizabeth Tabish as Molly Garner,
Sean Astin as Gabriel
and Neal McDonough as The Benefactor.

The casting in this movie was perfect. Neal McDonough is amazing as The Benefactor.

My favorite quote: “God is here. And everything that I’ve ever witnessed, everything that I’ve done, everything that I’ve done, and everything you’ve put me through, just makes it that much easier to see.”

I’m not going to give away the ending. You have to see it for yourself! The Shift has a powerful ending.

I, and my husband that likes sci-fi, both really liked The Shift!

A Christmas for the Ages Movie Review & Giveaway

November 24, 2023 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Have you ever wondered what Christmas was like when your mother was a child? How about when your grandmother or great grandmother were little? This is the premise of the new movie A Christmas for the Ages exclusively on Great American Family.

Prompted by their youngest granddaughter, four generations of women celebrate family and what Christmas was like in the 40s, 60s, 90s, and present day. A Christmas for the Ages stars Natasha Bure, Anna Ferguson, Kate Craven, and Cheryl Ladd.

A Christmas for the Ages Movie Review

It was so fun to see how Christmas was celebrated across the decades. The decorations, the food, the clothes, and the music. Watching someone eat a green Jello mold with cottage cheese and pineapple was funny. lol Seeing an aluminum tree makes me thankful that trend hasn’t come back. lol

The movie might feel a little slow moving at times. But just listen. It’s a very heartfelt movie. You’ll also hear some gems like my favorite quote from A Christmas for the Ages:

Honestly I think it’s still good old Christmas, I mean Jesus born in the manager, family togetherness, gifts. I mean that’s the constant isn’t it? Your great grandmother was right. Times may change, but every year we can always count on Christmas to bring us together.

And this one……

That’s the beauty of it, really. We’re all ages, all individuals but we come together and love one another just as God loves us. That’s family.

I loved the end of the movie. All 4 ladies sang together songs from the decades in a Christmas show. They are all so talented. Their husbands and boyfriends all joined them onstage as well.

I very much enjoyed watching A Christmas for the Ages. It’s suitable for the whole family.

Watch A Christmas for the Ages exclusively on Great American Family starting November 26th!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
