Family Movie Night – A Walk in My Shoes

December 3, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

We love to watch movies together as a family. It’s often hard to find a good movie to watch, especially on tv. NBC is helping families solve this problem with Family Movie Night.

Family Movie Night airs on NBC on Friday, Dec 3, 2010 – 7pm CST! That’s 8 pm Eastern.

This Friday, the 3rd,  they are showing   A Walk in My Shoes.

Walk in Someone Else’s Shoes This Holiday Season
Holidays are supposed to be about families, but with shopping, cooking, cleaning, and other chores, sometimes it feels like we don’t get a chance to have a meaningful conversation with the people closest to us. There is a movie called A Walk in My Shoes coming up on Friday, December 3 at 8:00 EST on NBC that is a great opportunity to take a break, sit down with your kids and talk about what the holidays really mean: caring about other people, helping those who need it, thanking those who have helped us. It’s a really cool story that makes you think, “What would I learn if I stepped into someone else’s life?” There is something for everyone in this story, and after watching it, I can promise that it will make you laugh, cry, hug your family, and be thankful for what is most important in your life, especially during the holiday season. Do yourself a favor and watch it on Friday, December 3 at 8:00 EST on NBC.

A Walk In My Shoes – 2:33 TRLR from Moms4FamilyTV.com on Vimeo.

A Walk in My Shoes movie synopsis:
Ever judge someone just by looking at them? Of course, we’ve all made snap judgments about people. But what if we really got to know them? How would our opinions change? And what if we were forced to become them… how would the shoes fit then? Stressed-out high school teacher Trish Fahey can’t understand her students’ lack of effort and why their parents don’t seem to care. This is especially true of Justin Kremer, a popular, skateboard-loving, basketball star who is underperforming in her class. Trish has him suspended from the team and quickly chalks up the situation as a case of bad parenting. This perspective dramatically changes when Trish meets Molly, a mysterious stranger intent on helping her see things differently. When Trish wrecks her car, Molly is there as Trish wakes to find herself living the life of Cindy Kremer, the woman she has personally judged and criticized. Trish discovers that there is often more to the story and learns a powerful lesson that affects everyone she interacts with. Her husband, her daughter, the ex-Marine next door… No one is left unchanged.

I was able to watch this movie this week before it airs tomorrow. I watched with the kids, and we all loved it. A Walk in My Shoes is a great family movie. There are a couple of good lessons in this movie for all of us.

We shouldn’t be so hasty to judge others. What we see on the surface, is not always what is actually going in on others lives.

We need to make sure we are paying attention to our families. Yes, spending time together is of utmost importance. But that’s not all. We need to make sure that we really listen to what our families are saying, their thoughts and feelings.

I highly recommend A Walk in My Shoes for the whole family. So gather your family together this Friday, the 3rd, and enjoy a great family movie night.

By watching this movie with our families, we will also send a message to NBC that we want quality movies and programming for our families to watch together. The sponsors will also get the message, and hopefully sponsor more family movie nights in the future.

For more information about this movie, visit A Walk in My Shoes .  Read more about Family Movie Night:

The Next Great Move of God – Book Review & Giveaway

November 30, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

The Next Great Move of God: Christians Returning to Their Hebraic Roots

The Next Great Move of God – Christians Returning to Their Hebraic Roots

by Dr. LaSalle R. Vaughn
ISBN 978-1-935265-05-4
VMI PUblishers 2009
$13.99

I have been learning more about the Biblical Feasts for a couple of years now. So when I was offered this book to review, I thought it would be a good book for me to read.

From the back cover:

Find the key to godly success in faith, family, finances and fellowship with Him. Most Christians have understood the topic of salvation, but have never contemplated the Jewishness of Jesus. Understanding the culture in which Jesus lived will help you properly interpret the Bible. The Next Great Move of God: Christians Returning to Their Hebraic Roots will open your eyes to the Jewish world of Jesus. This profound book reveals that the Christian life is much more than salvation; it’s a lifestyle of obedience to the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

I had not heard of Dr. Vaughn before, so I was quite interested in reading his writings. I was not disappointed.

Dr. Vaughn explains what a covenant is, and how as Christians we are grafted into the Abrahamic covenant. In the Bible, Jesus celebrated all the Biblical Feasts, including Chanukah, the Festival of Dedication, (in John Chapter 10)  Did you know that the early Christians celebrated all the Biblical Feasts days? In fact, the first century church clearly identified with Judaism. The church was not separated from it’s Jewish roots until Constantine the Great converted to Christianity near  AD 325.

With chapters such as Restoring the Hebraic Roots of Our Faith,  Symbols of Our Faith,  Keys to the Heart of the Kingdom, and America is a Judeo-Christian Nation you will learn more about your faith, and how to apply it more fully to your daily life, and your prayer life.

This book also has a glossary, as well as a complete list of works cited. I found both to be helpful.

This book verified what I had already learned about our Hebraic roots, and I also learned a lot. I love how the author tells us the Hebrew word used, and the meaning. I want a book like this to help me dig deeper into the subject, and Dr. Vaughn  accomplished this for me.

I highly recommend this book to all Christians. If you haven’t learned about your Hebraic roots yet, this book is a great place to start.  And if you, like me, have already started to learn, this book will be a vary helpful continuation of your study.

You can visit The Next Great Move of God for more information about the book

Bringing Up Bobby – Review & DVD Giveaway

October 29, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

When 20-something filmmaking brothers Chris and Nick Staron were
told it’s impossible to make a Christian comedy, they laughed … and then got to work.
Bringing Up Bobby is the result, and the madcap antics of the entire Wyler family
will convince you that the Staron Bros. have created comedic dynamite!

Destined to be a favorite of families and youth groups, Bringing Up Bobby is a
quirky exploration of what it means to live out your faith … and to find humor in
whatever comes your way!

Bringing Up Bobby is “A Different Kind of Comedy About Being Kind of Different”.

In Bringing Up Bobby, Bobby is the soon to be 16 year old whose parents died when he was very young. His older brother has raised him, as well as another brother and sister.

The parents will is scheduled to be read on Bobby’s 16th birthday, so his other 2 siblings show up to see what they will get. One brother finds a hidden stash of money in the attic. Can he keep the others from finding out?

There are several scenes around the “War Table”. The war table is where this family shares how they really think and feel. Shouldn’t every family have a war table?

Our whole family enjoyed this movie. It is a very funny movie. At the same time, it is a very heart warming movie.

Bring Up Bobby reminds us that when life gets messy, you can still laugh…and look to God for direction.

Bringing Up Bobby is a movie the whole family can watch together, and be reminded about what is really important in life. Faith, family and friends.

Giveaway

Propeller, the company that sent me Bringing Up Bobby to review, is giving away a copy of  Bringing Up Bobby to one of my readers.

Upside – Review & DVD Giveaway

October 29, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

BUB Profile

It’s all how you look at it From the looks of things, Solomon White
has a well-mapped future. Finish his senior year of high school, select an elite
university, continue his lacrosse career, and reap the rewards of success on
whichever road life takes him.

But a devastating hit on the lacrosse field leaves his world literally turned
upside down. Will he be able to gain the perspective needed to face his new reality?

We loved this movie! From the youngest to the oldest we all enjoyed watching this movie together.

What would you do if your whole world was turned upside down? Literally upside down? Would you completely fall apart, or would you have the faith to keep going. To keep walking with God and doing His will?

That’s what Soli had to decided. Should he let his world completely fall apart because of his injury? Or should he follow God?

The same decision many of us have to make on a daily basis.

Our favorite scene was in the graveyard, when they were letting the blind women drive a car.

“Watch the tree!” “I can’t watch the tree!!”

“How did I do?” “We’re not dead.”

We were literally rolling around laughing the scene is that funny!

There is one college party scene, where Soli is led into the party, not knowing he was going to a party, as he was just visiting the campus. When he realized where he was, he quickly left. Definitely a good message for our teens.

If your looking for a great movie for your family to watch, you should check out Upside. My whole family loved it.

Ecostore USA Dishwash Liquid & Laundry Powder – Review

October 15, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Ecostore USA recently sent me 2 products to review. Since I try to use very few chemicals in my home, their products were perfect for me to review.

Way back when (lol), when I used chemical cleaners because that was all you could buy, (and I had never heard about making your own cleaners), I was very careful with my children and the cleaners. I most definitely didn’t let them use the cleaners. I wouldn’t even let them in the bathroom with me when I was cleaning it. I didn’t want them to breathe the chemicals.

My oldest is 24, and back then, you never heard about cleaners being bad for you. I just knew I didn’t want the cleaners on my kids skin, or want them breathing all the fumes. We know so much more now about cleaners and the effects on our bodies and our health now than we did back then.

That’s why I’m always happy to hear about companies who make cleaners and health and beauty items without chemicals.

Ecostore makes baby care items, bath and body items, cleaners, and even pet care items with no nasty chemicals.

They let me pick two products to use and review. I picked the Front Loader Laundry Powder and the Dishwash Liquid.

The actual products sitting on my washing machine.

Front Loader Laundry Powder comes bagged inside a box. It has a convenient measuring scoop. We do a lot of laundry here for 7 people. Including my husbands very dirty work clothes. This laundry powder worked amazingly well on all our clothes. It is plant and mineral based, so no chemicals. Therefore it doesn’t have a strong chemical smell. I don’t like a strong smell on my clothes like chemical based laundry detergent leaves. I want my clothes to smell clean. And that’s what this powder did.

The box says it will do 33 loads of laundry. I haven’t finished my box yet, so I don’t know how many I will get out of it. Even though I was writing down how many loads I was washing, when others used it, they didn’t write it down. It’s safe to say that we have washed 30 loads so far with it, since for a lot of our loads, we only used half a scoop of the powder.
I also used the Dishwash Liquid. The 7 of us use a lot of dishes on a daily basis. Since we don’t use paper plates except on special occasions when we’ll have more people than we have dishes, birthday parties and bbq’s for example, we use more dishes than the average family. I also wash all those dishes by hand. We haven’t had an automatic dishwasher for almost 3 years.
This dishwash liquid has a light citrus smell that is quite nice. Since this liquid is also plant based with no synthetic chemicals, it does not make as many bubbles as store bought dish liquid. That can be hard to get used to, as we’ve all grown up washing dishes in very bubbly dish water. I found that by using a spoon or spatula to beat the dish water as the sink was filling, I could get quite a bit of suds that lasted longer.
Since I also cook most of our meals from scratch, I can have some really dirty pots and pans. this dishwashing liquid was very effective on the greasy pans.
I was very happy with the quality of both these products. So if your looking for products with no nasty chemicals, visit Ecostore USA.
TILT
*Disclosure- Ecostore provided me with one box of laundry powder and one bottle of dishwash liquid to use and review. The review is my own. I really did use the products, and I really did like them.

The Treasure of God’s Word – Book Review

October 6, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

The Treasure of God’s WordCelebrating 400 Years of the King James Bible

By Jack Countryman

Celebrate the most influential book in the history of English civilization!

Scholars have long agreed that one of the greatest influences in the shaping of the English language is the King James Version of the Bible. The Treasure of God’s Word is a celebration of the King James Version’s 400-year anniversary, continuing its legacy of inspiration to people in all walks of life. Scripture selections are divided into 45 topics that shed light on the vastness of God’s love for each one of us, as well as articles outlining the history of the translation from its original 1611 to present-day versions. It’s a ‘treasure’ that will bless anyone with a love for God’s Word and a belief that His promises hold true today as they have through the centuries.

The Treasure of God’s Word is a beautiful book. The leather like, embossed cover, gold pages, and presentation page make this book an excellent gift book. And then you open it, and the beauty continues. The pages are a soothing color with brown printing, making it very easy on the eyes and a pleasure to read.

Each of the 45 sections have several pages of Bible verses pertaining that each topic.

God’s Love
God’s Comfort
Our Salvation
Our Hope
Power of Prayer

These are just a sampling of section titles. A great book to keep on the shelf and refer to daily. Interspersed throughout the sections, are chapters on the history of the King James Version of the Bible. I learned a lot I didn’t know about this translation of the Bible.

This book is a great addition to the family book shelf, as well as a beautiful gift.

The Mysterious Island – Movie Review & Giveaway

October 1, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

themysteriousislands

I was recently sent The Mysterious Island DVD to review. This movie follows a team of researchers and a 16 year old boy to the Galapagos Islands. The Galapagos are a chain of island, (Ecuador is the closest land mass) that Darwin used to prove his theory of evolution. Did he really prove it, though?

I learned a lot in this movie. I learned some things I didn’t know about Darwin and his theory. This documentary has some fascinating video of birds and other creatures. How about a salt sneezing marine Iguana? The under the ocean video was incredible, too. Here’s a clip:

Our entire family loved this movie. From adults down to our youngest who is a 10 year old boy (you know how hard it is to get them to sit still!) were fascinated with the movie. No one wanted to leave the room, in case we missed something. My husband did leave the room for a minute, and missed the bird with a bright blue beak and bright blue webbed feet. And I mean bright blue!

We will definitely watch this movie again. There is so much information packed into it, that one really must watch it more than once. If you’ve ever wondered how Darwin came up with his theory of evolution, you’ll be interested in this movie. The researchers set out to prove his theory wrong. You’ll have to watch the movie to see what information they unveil. You know I can’t give it all away!

You’ll also like this movie for all the wonderful wildlife video. We all thoroughly enjoyed seeing and learning about lots of species that we had never seen or heard of before.

I highly recommend this movie.

Not only did they send me a copy of The Mysterious Island to review, they sent me one to give away!

If you would like to win your own copy of The Mysterious Island, just leave a comment on this post.

How easy is that?

Just leave me a comment and your entered to win! This giveaway is open until midnight October 15, 2010. After that, I will use random.org to pick a winner.
