Books of the Bible…Can You Find Them??

August 4, 2007 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Something fun to do. Here is a puzzle it has 30 of the 66 Books of the Bible scrambled in it see if you can find them all.

Can you find them?

This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket, on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu, keeping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much, he passed it on to some friends. One friend from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his john boat. Another friend studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend, was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving this puzzle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that are really easy to spot. That’s a fact. Some people, however, will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in this paragraph. During a recent fund raising event, which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new sales record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Humana humbly puts it, “the books are all right here in plain view hidden from sight.” Those able to find all of them will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. Also, keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know the answers. Remember, there is no need for a mad exodus, there really are 30 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph waiting to be found

How the World Eats

June 5, 2007 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

How The World Eat, Time Magazine The June 11, 2007 issue has an intersting article about what people in other countries pay per week for food for a family of four. Japan, $317.25–meat and fruit and vegetables are the higest $98.90 & $83.43–traditional Japanese Diet; Germany, $500.07–traditional fresh foods, beverages $70.17, Miscellanous $91.01; Chad, $1.23 for a family of five, food provided by rations from Refugee Camp–no food to buy in this country–receives 39.3 lbs of sorgum and 4.6 lbs of corn-soy mixture. Water provided by Oxfam–no water in this country. No dariy available. United States, $341.98, fast food $71.61, bottled beverages $71.75–lots of pizza and coke in photos, Mexico, $189.09, Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, traditional Mexican foods, high consupmption of soda–$39.07. Most families said their children often ate fast food outside the home that they could not track and three families said the children no longer wanted traditional foods but what they saw on TV.

This photo essay is pretty cool, too.

I probably average $150 per week on groceries. Which includes what paper products and cleaners that I do buy. (which aren’t that many, anymore) I found it pretty interesting to see what others spend, and to see the pictures of all the food.

Cool Gas Site

May 24, 2007 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

This is a pretty cool site. You put in your zip code, and the map comes up with the gas stations and the prices of the gas. Nice. Unless in live in a town, like me, with only 2 gas stations. Cause then it doesn’t really matter. But for those you live in an area with more than 2 stations, it would probably be a big help in finding lower prices.

The Rules of Chocolate

April 4, 2007 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

If you get melted chocolate all over your hands, you’re eating it too slowly.

Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices and strawberries all count as fruit, so eat as many as you want.

The problem: How to get two pounds of chocolate home from the store in a hot car.
The solution: Eat it in the parking lot.

Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal.
It’ll take the edge off your appetite and you’ll eat less.

A nice box of chocolates can provide your total daily intake of calories in one place. Isn’t that handy?

If you can’t eat all your chocolate, it will keep in the freezer. But if you can’t eat all your chocolate, what’s wrong with you?

If calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge. Calories are afraid of heights, and they will jump out of the chocolate to protect themselves.

Money talks. Chocolate sings.

Chocolate has many preservatives. Preservatives make you look younger.

Why is there no such organization as Chocoholics Anonymous?
Because no one wants to quit.

Put “eat chocolate” at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you’ll get one thing done.

Chocolate is a health food. Chocolate is derived from cacao beans. Bean = vegetable. Sugar is derived either from sugar beets or cane, both vegetables. And, of course, the milk/cream is dairy. So eat more chocolate to meet the dietary requirements for daily vegetable and dairy intake.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
