When you get a lot of snow, what else is there to do but make snow ice cream and snow candy?
I remember making snow candy (and snow ice cream) when I was young in Massachusetts. I have never made it for my kids, though. So I did today!
Here’s what I did:
Snow Candy Recipe
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
2 tablespoons butter
Place both ingredients in a pan and bring to a boil. Boil for 5-7 minutes until mixtures reaches 225-230 degrees.
Place snow in pan or bowl, and drizzle hot syrup over snow. The snow cools the candy pretty quickly. As soon as the candy is cool enough to eat, it’s ready.
This candy is so yummy! It tastes like carmal! The recipe can be doubled, if you want to make a lot. I just made a small amount, in case my kids didn’t like it. Maple syrup is expensive, you know, and I didn’t want to waste it. They liked it, though, and wanted to know why I didn’t make more. lol

I loved Snow ice cream as a kid. My mom would put a bowl outside at the beginning of a big snow fall. Within a few hours we had enough for snow ice cream 🙂 Never had snow candy. I'll have to try it.

I've never heard of snow candy. It looks like lots of fun to make. I will definitely try this out with my kids, if we ever get any snow.

I *love* this idea! It reminds me of "Little House in the Big Woods." We recently got a bunch of snow too. Think I will try making this with my homemade brown sugar syrup to see if it works. I bet my girls would love it too!

Oh how I miss my homeland…tons of Snow and maple syrup on tap! Now I have to rely on the occasional generous guest (1L of syrup takes alot out of the luggage allowance) and the snow only hits the higher mountains here. Hmmm I wonder if I took a cooler up there if the snow would survive the trip?!…Soooo have to try this here!

This looks like so much fun! Pity it doesn't snow in Australia! I didn't realise that maple syrup was expensive over there as well. I just thought is was so dear in Australia because it is imported.
