Modest Bathing Suits

July 14, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Modest bathing suits are so hard to find. I’m not just talking for us ladies. I’m talking about girls and teenagers, also. You can order them online, but at an average price of $75, if you need more than one, it’s cost prohibitive.

My 15 yo, Hannah, won an e-book last year on how to make your own modest bathing suit.  I bought her the fabric from Spandex House. I was pleased with their service. And the colors on the fabric she picked were well represented in the picture online. It was $10 a yard and we bought 4 yards. Add in a little elastic and thread and she got a nice, 4 piece modest bathing suit for around $50. including shipping. She did pretty much use all 4 yards of the fabric.  Even though she’s not experienced in drafting her own patterns, the e-book walked her right through it.

She made 4 pieces. An undergarment, a top, shorts and a full circle skirt.

She even made a matching wide headband. 🙂

She did an awesome job with no help from me! You can read her post about sewing her own bathing suit over at her blog Daughter of YHVH.

Very nice! Does your daughter sew other items or was the swimsuit her first?

    Wow,

This is absolutely delightful – your daughter did an absolutely fantastic job. I agree, nowadays, it is almost impossible to find bathing suits that aren’t bikinis or incredibly revealing. I cannot find myself comfortable while my entire body is on display for the world to see – I think this is a novel idea. I might just try my hand at it. Kudos to Hannah, may God bless her, and congratulations to you for raising such a smart and productive child! 🙂

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
