I like to make a lot of my own kitchen helpers. Sauces, salad dressings, seasoning mixes. I like knowing exactly what is in everything. And homemade is much more economical.
So in my quest to make more of my own kitchen helpers, I developed a Homemade Enchilada Sauce recipe. I used it in these pans of enchiladas.
Homemade Enchilada Sauce Recipe
2 cups tomato sauce
2 cups water
4 tablespoons chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 teas garlic powder
1/2 t onion powder
1/2 t salt
Combine the above ingredients in a sauce pan, and bring to a boil.
In a cup or small bowl, stir together with a fork or whisk:
2 t cornstarch
1/2 cup water
Making sure it’s stirred well, no lumps.
Slowly pour this mixture into the sauce in the pan, while stirring the sauce. Stir until it returns to a boil. Remove from heat.
Now your Homemade Enchilada Sauce is ready to use in your favorite recipe.
Here’s one of the enchiladas from the pans pictured above. I served it with homemade Mexican Rice, and some of my home canned green beans.
