Home to Heather Creek is a new series of books from Guideposts. Under the pen name of Kathleen Bauer, a team of great Christian writers have come together to write this series. The first two books in the series are Before the Dawn and Sweet September.

Before the Dawn, written by Caroline Aarsen, tells the story of Charlotte Stevenson and her family. Charlotte’s daughter left home as soon as she possibly could, and now all these years later, she has died and left three children. Charlotte and her husband bring the children back to their farm. The very farm their mother couldn’t wait to leave. Learning to live with their grandparents while grieving for their mother, making new friends at new schools, is almost more than they can bear. They get off to a rocky start, and haven’t achieved smooth sailing by the end of the book.
Sweet September, written by Tricia Goyer, picks up where Before the Dawn leaves off. Charlotte’s grandchildren are still struggling. With the loss of their mother, with farm life, with school, and with living with their grandparents. Charlotte is still struggling herself. With adjusting to the loss of her daughter, taking care of her husband, the farm, and helping the grandchildren.
There is a continuity between these two books. If you didn’t know that two different authors wrote under the same pen name, you would think they were written by the same person.
These two Home to Heather Creek books have a great story line. Grandparents raising their grandchildren, for whatever reason, is becoming more common place now. The authors portray very well the feelings the grandmother has with wanting to do the right thing for her grandchildren.
The Home to Heather Creek books are a great read, full of family love, and above all, hope.
