I’ve used Switched on Schoolhouse Kentucky State History with all of my high school kids, but I had never tried any other subjects. I was very excited to receive Switched on Schoolhouse Earth Science to review.

I ended up having to call customer service for help with the installation. I had a very good experience on the phone with Switched on Schoolhouse customer service. The customer service rep walked me through going to the Switched on Schoolhouse website to find the download file that I needed. He stayed on the line with me while it downloaded, and until I had the program up and running. I recommend using Switched on Schoolhouse just for their wonderful customer service.
But there is more! I love the curriculum, too!
My 14 year old, 8th grade son has been using Switched on Schoolhouse Earth Science for the last few weeks. He is the only one of my children that hadn’t used Switched on Schoolhouse before, so this was a new experience for him. He found it very easy to get started. He liked being able to customize his home page.
I like that I can log into my teacher side of the program to set up our school calendar, assign the lessons and projects, and to check his work and grades. You can create your own custom school calendar, and assign work for the days you want. If you don’t want your student to do all of the projects, you can adjust that, too.
When you click on Assignments, you can see all the assignments for each of your students for a week at a time, as shown in the picture below. I like that there is a calendar on the left of the screen. Non-school days are shaded gray, and days with assignments are in bold. This screen makes it easy to see who needs to do what, when.
I like that I can go in to check their grades, and reassign lessons or projects if need be. Assignments can be adjusted at any time. If your student comes to a project, and you decide that you don’t want them to do it, you can easily remove it from the lesson plan.
My son has been enjoying using Earth Science. He likes all the pictures included in the lessons. Switched on Schoolhouse Earth Science is taught from a Christian perspective. Chapters included Dynamic Structure of Earth, Forces and Features of Earth, Features of Earths Crust, Earths Water, Earths Atmosphere, Earths Weather and Climate, Astronomy, and includes two semester Reviews and exams. You can view the Scope and Sequence, lesson objectives, and a science supply list on the website.
Below, is a picture of one of the projects. The top section of the screen has it’s own scroll bar. When the student scrolls down, they can see all the details and instructions for the project. The bottom part of the screen has instructions for uploading and submitting the project.
Switched on Schoolhouse Earth Science sells for $98.95, and can be used by grades 8 -12. My son and I are both loving it. I highly recommend Switched on Schoolhouse Earth Science!
