I bought this reflective yarn in January 2014. My son wanted me to make him a hat. I, his very slow mother, finally finished it! lol
Crocheted Hat with Reflective Yarn
It’s hard to get a good picture of the reflective quality of this yarn. Do you see all the white lines in the yarn? Those are all the reflective parts of the yarn. They really shine when it is dark, and a light hits them.
I had bought 2 skeins of this yarn, black and grey, so I made my son his black hat with a grey stripe. I had plenty of yarn left, so I made a grey hat with a black stripe. My oldest son liked it so much, I gave it to him. He is 28, and it fits him about like it fits the 14 year old in the picture.
A big thanks goes to my 14 year old son, Zach, for modeling the hats in these pictures. He wouldn’t let me show his face. lol
Here’s how I made these simple Crocheted Hats:
I used K hook on black hat and J hook on the grey. The black hat is loose on my 14 year old, and would also fit the average adult head. The hat I made with the J hook just fits my 14 year old. This yarn is a heavier, coarser yarn suitable for using a large crochet hook. You can adjust the size using a different size hook, and adding additional rows as needed.

I had no idea reflective yarn even exists – what a wonderful thing for people who are out in the dark walking or bike riding or whatever!
