Ordinary Angels Movie Review

February 22, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Ordinary Angels is based on a remarkable true story. The movie centers on Sharon (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky. She is having problems of her own, including an addiction to alcohol, and a son that won’t speak to her. But she discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters.

Ordinary Angels opens with the birth of his youngest daughter, Michelle. Then we see her mother dying from liver failure. Now Michelle is herself waiting for a liver transplant. Michele has an older sister, Ashley, who loves and cares for her little sister.

Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is the inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels. Sharon would not take no for an answer. She rallied the whole community, including businesses and the local tv station, to get this family what they needed.

Ordinary Angels is a great reminder to us all. We can, and should, step up to help others in our community. The size doesn’t matter. It may be donating a meal, clothing, or organizing a fundraiser for medical bills. We can make a difference in the lives of those in our community! See below for a way you can be an ordinary angel by helping others with medical bills.

Ordinary Angels Review

Ordinary Angels is rated PG. It is suitable for the whole family. I do like to let parents know what is in movies so they can decide if it is appropriate for their kids. In this movie there is a short bar scene, along with alcohol consumption in another scene. There is also smoking, and a moment when two characters are shown with blood on their clothes, from Michelle being sick.

Ordinary Angels is truly an amazing story of how one person can make a huge difference in the lives of others.

I loved this movie. Hilary Swank did a phenomenal job of portraying Sharon. There are sad parts, and happy parts. Moments when you can feel the characters defeat. And moments when you celebrate their victories with them. You can feel the humanity of these characters, as they go through situations that we ourselves, or others we know, have been through.

When you see this movie, be sure to stay for the credits. You’ll see the real Michelle, her family, and the real Sharon.

Ordinary Angels had me crying at the end. Literally.

Don’t miss this powerful film, based on a true story! You’ll leave
feeling inspired to be an angel to people in your own community!

County Rescue Review

February 15, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

EMTs are courageous, hardworking, everyday heroes, that are often overlooked. Until you need them. County Rescue is the new, original series on Great American Family channel, and streaming on Great American Pure Flix. This is the story of an EMT unit who save lives while navigating their own life, love, and faith.

County Rescue Review

While County Recuse is about EMTs, it’s not just a medical show. This show concentrates on the relationships between the EMTs.

Their relationships with each other, their families, and with God. Their faith is foremost in all their conversations.

“I want to be who God wants me to be.” was said by one of the characters. To me, this feels like the theme of the EMTs on County Rescue.

County Rescue is suitable for the whole family because there are no gory medical scenes. However, the themes of some of the episodes may make it not suitable for your younger kids. Suicide is one of the themes in a couple of the episodes. If you have a teen sensitive to this issue, you might want to watch it first to see if it is suitable for them.

Watch the County Rescue Trailer

A couple of the episodes deal with one of EMTs having repeated problems with alcohol. He had his fellow paramedics called for him a couple of times. With their encouragement, he was able to move forward with his life, recover, and go to rehab. In a later episode, he acknowledges to the EMTs that he wouldn’t have survived, and wouldn’t have had the courage to go to rehab, if it wasn’t for them.

Over the course of a few episodes, we see Dani feeling called to be an EMT. As a new rookie, her family questions her decision. In one episode, she was going to quit because of her past, and her family always telling her she couldn’t do it. She decided she didn’t want to be that person anymore. She wanted to be who God wanted her to be. So she withdrew her resignation and returned to work. And that very next shift, she was able to talk a young woman out of committing suicide. She said “I was thinking maybe God had me here just for her”.

I love a good medical show. but I I loved how this show concentrates more on the people and their relationships, then it does the medical aspect. I enjoyed watching County Rescue, and I look forward to seeing more episodes in the future.

It Is Finished Book Review

February 9, 2024 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I love to make Easter a special time of the year. So when I saw the book It Is Finished: A 40-Day Pilgrimage Back to the Cross, I knew I wanted to read it. It Is Finished is the new book written by Charles Martin, the best selling author of 25 books. Some faith based, some fiction.

It Is Finished

Through forty days of captivating storytelling, the author takes you on a journey back to the cross, encouraging you to look at it from a different perspective each day and ask God to reveal to you:

What did Jesus mean when he said, It is finished as he was dying on the cross?

When did what Jesus finished at the cross begin?

How does Jesus’ death 2,000 years ago relate to me today?

What is God offering at the cross that I often forget or take for granted?

What does God know about me that I don’t realize?

The book aims to open your eyes and heart to the answer to the question that can change your life: ‘Lord, why me? Why did you endure the cross and despise the shame for me?’

It Is Finished is perfect for reading during Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter. It can definitely be read anytime, though!

Mr. Martin states in the forward that he wanted each days devotion to be about a cup of coffee long. Maybe two. I don’t drink coffee, lol, but I found the length to fit that scenario. It takes me an average of 15 minutes for each days reading. Of course, that will vary for everyone.

It Is Finished Book Review

I found each devotional to be both interesting and informative. I have learned a few things that I didn’t know. Which leads to something else I loved about It Is Finished. The Notes section in the back of the book. Here the author references every Bible verse used, and version of the Bible he used. (He uses the ESV Bible, unless otherwise noted.) As well as any books, or online articles he got information from.

For example, on Day 1, he talked about heel bone crucifixion, which I don’t recall hearing about before. So there are a couple of articles in the notes section that I was able to look up. Which is something I love from an educational viewpoint.

It Is Finished Book

Each day’s reading features the main body of the devotional, a Walk With Me Back To The Cross section, Pray With Me and a And God Responds section. Each section varies in length each day.

The Walk With Me Back To The Cross section does just that. Takes the reader back to the cross. To Jesus. The reasons He went to the cross, the love He has for us, and more, citing Bible Verses to take us there.

Pray With Me is a written prayer for the reader to pray that relates to what was discussed in that days devotional.

And God Responds contains Bible verses that relate to the prayer.

A devotionals purpose is to help you grow closer to God. To find one that educates as well, is a wonderful mix. In my opinion, It Is Finished accomplishes both of those. I love Charles Martin’s writing style in this devotional. It held my attention throughout. This isn’t a quick, get it done devotional. It will take you deeper.

Here’s a quote from the Forward:

His desire is to expose the ugly in us in order to reveal the pure and beautiful and Holy in Himself. Why? The next forty days are my attempt to answer this question.

Lent this year is Wednesday, February 14, to Thursday, March 28. Get It Is Finished now to use as your devotional!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
