Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska – Book Review

January 30, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

About Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska:

Singer Ginny Marshall is one signature away from the recording contract of her dreams-a deal that would guarantee success for the former foster child, who still struggles to bury the memories of her painful childhood. But Ginny needs advice from the one person who will look out for her best interests-her former fiancé, Brett Miller. She travels to the remote town ofGlacier Bay, Alaska, where the town’s colorful characters and stunning scenery provide respite from LA’s pressures.
In Glacier Bay, Ginny discovers a box of old letters and is swept up in the love story between Clay, an early missionary to Alaska Territory, and Ellie, the woman who traveled there to be his children’s governess. When Ginny is reunited with Brett in Glacier Bay, will she discover-as Ellie did-that healing and love are sometimes found in the most unexpected places?

MY REVIEW:

Love Finds You in Glacier Bay is a great read! I’ve never been to Alaska, but my husband has. In fact, my mother in law spent quite a few years there while growing up. My husband still has family in Alaska. So I thoroughly enjoyed the Alaskan history, and the descriptions of the terrain.

Don’t get me wrong, Love Finds You in Glacier Bay is not an Alaska guidebook. It follows Ginny as her country music dreams are finally becoming a reality. Something is still missing, though. She just can’t pinpoint it. She travels to Alaska to seek the trusted opinion of her former fiance. While in Alaska, Ginny stays with his grandmother. A woman she grows to love during her short stay. While staying in Alaska, Ginny finds that the something missing from her life is God. After an abusive childhood, Ginny finds healing with God. Ginny also finds love in Alaska.

Love Finds You in Glacier Bay is a great, entertaining read full of history, love and more importantly, God’s love.

Saturday on the Farm

January 26, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

It’s definitely winter here in Kentucky!

Icicles on my back porch. And an ice covered cedar tree. I took both of these from my covered back porch without actually stepping onto any ice. lol Ice is definitely not my friend. I’d end up flat on the ground. lol

While looking a the picture above, my father in laws garage, and my mothers yard across the street look like they are covered in snow, but that is in face ice! Yes, my father in law lives next door to us, and my mother lives across the street. We like it that way. 🙂 You can’t see the road in the picture, but there is a road between the brown garage and the hill.

So, yes, it’s quite cold and icy here. I have been planning this years garden. In my head. I have also been organizing my seeds like I said I was going to. In my head. roflol Well, I know where I will store the seeds and how I will store them. I have one of those old library card catalog file drawers in my schoolroom. I’ll be putting the seeds in a couple of those drawers. I’m just not sure if I want to file them in alphabetical order, or in order of planting.

If I file them in order of planting, what do I do about the seeds that I can plant twice, spring and fall? Just refile them after planting? hmmm…….

How do you organize your seeds?

Our Homeschool Week in Review

January 26, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Abby & Zach finally finished the Dayspring Pilgrim Story online course. Due to sickness and holidays, it took them longer to finish. It’s for grades 3-6, but I had Abby do it, too. Zach is in the middle of the final project of building a wetu. He would have finished yesterday, but we couldn’t find the glue. There are always bottles of glue laying around everywhere, until you actually need one. Then I can’t find one anywhere. sigh…

The girls have had a few volleyball games this week. Unfortunately, they didn’t win any of them. 🙁 They are getting lots of practice though, and they are getting better with each game.

I asked Hannah what she wanted to learn how to cook next, and she said lasagna. So she learned how to make lasagna.

lasagna

She did a great job. They were delicious. Yes, she made two. One 13×9 is not enough for eight people. At least not the eight people I’m feeding!  At the dinner table, her brother hugged her and said I love you! Then after tasting it, he told her she should more time on home ec and less time on schoolwork. lol

Zach kept himself busy the other day making fighter “things” (I don’t know what their called! lol) out of legos. He made quite a few, and insisted I take a picture. lol

Abel’s Field DVD Review & Giveaway

January 24, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

About Abel’s Field

Left motherless by tragedy and abandoned by his father, high school senior Seth McArdle (Samuel Davis) faces enormous pressure as he strives to support his little sisters. At school, he endures the daily bullying of the football team. But fighting back only finds him singled out for punishment and assigned to an after-school work detail under the supervision of the reserved groundskeeper, Abel (SOUL SURFER’S Kevin Sorbo). Much to his surprise, Seth discovers that Abel may be the only one who truly understands his struggles. As dark times lure Seth toward desperate measures, the reluctant Abel may be the one person who can point him back toward the light.

Abel's Field

I watched Abel’s Field with my family and we all loved it. The character of Seth really drew me into the movie. Seth is taking care of his younger twin sisters alone, and he tries so hard to do the right thing. He goes to school, and works two jobs all while taking care of the girls. I felt so brokenhearted for Seth while watching the movie, he tries so hard to do the right thing. Yet no matter how hard he tries, nothing goes right for him.
After getting in trouble at school, his punishment is to work on the football field with Abel. Abel has has a history that he hasn’t shared with anyone. He hides his past from everyone, always moving before anyone finds out his secret. This time, instead of running, he stays to help Seth.

Abel’s Field is a great family movie. One that I’m sure we will be watching over and over again.

Etched Upon My Heart

Etched….Upon My Heart   What We Learn and Why We Never Forget is an extremely touching book full of all the moments that have made up the author’s life. Jill Kelly is very open in telling her story, including the death of her precious son. She wrote Etched…..Upon My Heart for her daughters, to help remember and never forget God’s grace in their lives.

The book is divided into eight chapters – love, significance, forgiveness, suffering, giving, prayer, faithfulness, and death.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
