VeggieTales The Little House That Stood DVD Review & Giveaway

March 6, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

When the Three Little Pigs roll into Cabbageville looking to build some new houses, they meet one builder with a plan and two without a clue! Larry builds with hay, Mr. Lunt with bricks, but only Bob builds his houses on a firm foundation – following the wise plans from the Master Builder’s Handbook! Will the Little Piggies make the right choices when it comes to building their houses – and their lives – on solid ground? Find out in this parable that shows kids when they follow God’s blueprints, then can stand strong when the storms come!

VeggieTales The Little House That Stood

My family has loved VeggieTales for many years. I was excited to receive this new one, The Little House That Stood. It tells the story of the Three Little Pigs. In this VeggieTales parable, the Pigs learn to build there house on a firm foundation. That once you build on a firm foundation, no storms can knock you over.

I watched The Little House that Stood with my 12 year old son. We both really liked it! The Little House That Stood has everything that kids and parents have grown to love about the VeggieTales, a good storyline, humor, and a great lesson. My sons only complaint was that the pigs had arms and legs. Everyone knows that VeggieTales don’t have arms and legs. He wouldn’t accept any reasoning that I gave, lol, he insisted that the pigs shouldn’t have had arms and legs. Kids can be so funny. lol

Abel’s Field DVD Review & Giveaway

January 24, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

About Abel’s Field

Left motherless by tragedy and abandoned by his father, high school senior Seth McArdle (Samuel Davis) faces enormous pressure as he strives to support his little sisters. At school, he endures the daily bullying of the football team. But fighting back only finds him singled out for punishment and assigned to an after-school work detail under the supervision of the reserved groundskeeper, Abel (SOUL SURFER’S Kevin Sorbo). Much to his surprise, Seth discovers that Abel may be the only one who truly understands his struggles. As dark times lure Seth toward desperate measures, the reluctant Abel may be the one person who can point him back toward the light.

Abel's Field

I watched Abel’s Field with my family and we all loved it. The character of Seth really drew me into the movie. Seth is taking care of his younger twin sisters alone, and he tries so hard to do the right thing. He goes to school, and works two jobs all while taking care of the girls. I felt so brokenhearted for Seth while watching the movie, he tries so hard to do the right thing. Yet no matter how hard he tries, nothing goes right for him.
After getting in trouble at school, his punishment is to work on the football field with Abel. Abel has has a history that he hasn’t shared with anyone. He hides his past from everyone, always moving before anyone finds out his secret. This time, instead of running, he stays to help Seth.

Abel’s Field is a great family movie. One that I’m sure we will be watching over and over again.

Where God Finds You – Review & Giveaway

December 14, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Where God Finds You is  Anita Higman’s new book from Standard Publishing. Where God Finds You takes you into the lives of 40 people from the Bible.

Where God Finds You

Here’s more about Where God Finds You:

“Have you ever longed to crawl into the pages of the Bible? To walk on the Judean hills or feel the spray of the Red Sea? To know what it’s like to confront a king or pour perfume on a Savior’s feet?

“In forty devotional tales, Where God Finds You breathes new life into ancient Bible characters. Through reflection on Scripture and prayer, you’ll discover a place in each of these lives of vulnerability, tenderness, truth and love – a place where you can find God….and where God finds you.”

Book excerpt:

I looked up from the spindle as a mystifying radiance spun its way into the room. It came into my presence like the falling of olive blossoms in the breeze, white and gleaming. Awestruck, I watched as the light took on the form of a creature of light!

I rose quickly, my heart bolting like that of a newborn lamb. I moved away from the light until my back pressed against the mud-brick wall. A faint sound, like a lyre, could be heard as if music radiated from his snowy robe. His face shone. Could it have been the lingering glow from being near the throne of the Almighty?

“Greetings,” the angel said. “You who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

I wanted to speak but could not. With tremulous hands I fingered my veil but did not lift it. What could this mean? What kind of greeting was this?

–From Chapter Three: Mary, Mother of Jesus

Included in this devotional are:  The Woman Who Touched His Cloak, The Man at Bethseda, Pilate’s Wife, The Woman Who Anointed His Feet, Noah’s Wife, The Woman of Samaria, and many more. Most of the devotions will take you 20-30 minutes, including answering all the questions.

Each of the forty devotionals are divided into four sections:

A fictionalized version of the story – the author has written the story filling in some details that are not mentioned in the scriptures.

The story from God’s Word – the Bible verses that the story is taken from. Not just listing the verses, but it has all the verses included in the book.

The story from then to now– the author helps us apply the lessons we learned from the previous sections to our lives. She tells us some about what the culture was like at the time our story takes place, and things that have happened in her own life.

Questions – each devotional has 5-7 questions. The questions are in depth questions to help you get the most from the devotion.

I found Where God Finds You to be a very nice devotional. The devotions were interesting and informative. The questions are not yes and no questions, but worded in a way to get you thinking about what you learned. Where God Finds You is a devotional for adults, but spiritually mature teens would benefit from it as well.

Haircovering.com Headband Review & $25. Package Giveaway

December 12, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I recently received two headbands from Haircoverings.com to review. Haircoverings.com carries everything you need to, well, cover your hair. Whether you cover your hair all the time, or are looking for something decorative like these headbands, Haircoverings.com has hundreds of selections. Their Feather Headbands are very fun and festive.  Haircoverings.com also has some beautiful holiday accessories to choose from. If you or someone you know is looking for hair loss coverings, you will also find a large selection of those.

Both of the headbands I received are hard headbands. This first one is entirely made of metal. It really beautiful and looks awesome in dark hair. I was concerned that my daughter wouldn’t like it because the band was metal. She not only liked it, but she found it comfortable to wear. This Silver Double Leaf headband sells for $5.99.

I do believe this second headband is my favorite. It is just absolutely gorgeous.

I received a white one, but this style comes in many different colors. It is beautiful and feminine.  The studs are bright and shiny. These pictures don’t really do it justice. This White Beautiful Thin Studded Headband sells for $4.99.

Real Food, Real Frugal eBook Review & Giveaway

November 16, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I recently received a copy of the ebook Real Food, Real Frugal: How to Cook and Eat Real Foods on a Budget by Susan Godfrey to review. In Real Food, Real Frugal, you will learn what is not real food and what is real food. The processed food we buy in the grocery store is not real food.

Buying real food, however, does seem more expensive. Especially if you buy organics. There are ways to buy real food and stay on a budget, too. The author has many helpful tips for buying, and then properly storing, real food. She also points out which unhealthy food items to stay away from, and which healthy food items we should be eating. Included in these discussions are sweeteners and artificial sweeteners, fats, genetically modified foods – GMO’s, and more.

Part two of Real Food, Real Frugal is where the frugal part comes in. You will learn how to save money by buying in bulk, stocking up, and freezer cooking. You’ll also get help in learning how to grow your own food and preserve it.

Then come the recipes!  All the categories are covered,    Appetizers, Beverages, Condiments, Breads, Salads, Soups and Stews, Side dishes and vegetables, Main dishes, and finally, Sweets. I’ve been a blog reader of Susans for a few years now, and have tried many of her recipes. They have all been great. I look forward to trying some of the new recipes in this book.

I only found one thing in the book that confused me. In the sweetener section, she says that agave should be avoided altogether. Then in the recipe section, she has several recipes that use agave. I know there are a lot of people that use it, but in my research I have found that it’s actually bad for you. She’s right in saying that we should avoid it. So I won’t be trying those recipes.

Over all, Real Food, Real Frugal is an excellent way to get your family started on eating real food, and for you to start saving money.

Real Food, Real Frugal is well worth the $3.99 price!

The book is available in PDF on the Real Food, Real Frugal website, on Amazon/Kindle-mobi, and Barnes & Noble/Nook-ePub.

Thanks to the author, I get to giveaway three copies of Real Food, Real Frugal!

Father of Lights DVD Review and Giveaway

October 31, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

About Father of Lights
FATHER OF LIGHTS chronicles the journey of filmmaker Darren Wilson and his team as they fearlessly travel the globe, far from the daily existence of the typical evangelical believer in the West. By thoughtfully documenting the stories of extraordinary believers and candidly filming miracles, visions and other supernatural occurrences, Wilson engages viewers in modern day examples of the true nature and character of God.

Wilson gives honest access to his own spiritual questions as he tackles the religious misconceptions he has struggled with throughout his life.  “I went into making this film by asking the simple question: who is God? I wanted to know His character, His personality, and who He truly is. To answer this question, we had to peel back the many layers of religious garbage that has been passed onto him through generations. That He is angry. Vengeful. Wrathful. And in general, that He doesn’t like you very much. The truth, as you will see vibrantly in this film, is that He is the most loving, compassionate, and wonderful Father you can imagine.”

Father of Lights

About Wanderlust Productions

Wanderlust Productions is a video production company focusing on creating content for various media that highlights, informs, and is designed to spiritually stretch our audience.  Created by Darren Wilson, Professor at Judson University, Wanderlust’s focus is on telling stories that inspire and agitate, that are unwavering in their honesty yet are emotionally compelling.  While our content will always be Christian in nature, we are not afraid to explore themes, concepts, or areas that may be considered “risky” by the Christian establishment.  Wanderlust prides itself on its willingness to put the story above the message.  That being said, the message will never waver.

The Official Father of Lights Trailer

Father of Lights is a documentary, and I found parts of it to be fascinating, and parts to be very slow moving. Father of Lights features Reinhard Bonnke, Bill Johnson, Andrew Wommack, Todd White, and many more. The filmmakers travel around the world to talk to others about God. Included are conversations with witch doctors, gang leaders, Hindu holy men, and everyday people.

There is no rating on Father of Lights, however, I would suggest you watch it first before letting your children watch it. There are some very intense parts, and a couple of scenes you might want to use caution with.

You will see people led to Christ in Father of Lights, as well as people healed, revealing a loving God to the world.

For more information visit: The  Father of Lights website, the  Father of Lights Facebook Page, and  Wanderlust on Twitter. You can also watch more videos on the  Wanderlust Productions YouTube Channel.
