Our Homeschool Week in Review

December 13, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Abby had volleyball practice Monday night. While there she hurt her little finger while setting the ball. Instead of coming out to the car, where I was sitting, she buddy taped it and kept playing!  After she got in the car, she told me she hurt it and that it was taped up. I told her I would look at it when we got home She said ok, so I figured it wasn’t too bad.

Well, after looking at it, I thought it might be broken. She didn’t want to go the the er to have it xrayed. Since she had two volleyball games to play the next day, I told her she had to or not play the next day. So back to went the 30 minutes to town for a trip to the er. The same town we had just driven 39 minutes home from. lol

Our Homeschool Week in Review

December 6, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

We took the week of Thanksgiving off from school. Which means that Zach 13, spent his week attached to some sort of electronic device. lol  Abby kept busy with a couple of volleyball games and practices. Unfortunately, they didn’t win any of those games.

We were supposed to go to the movies with the homeschool group last week, but due to snow, we had to miss seeing Frozen. I thought it was ironic that we missed seeing Frozen because we were frozen. lol

Calen, Abby, and Zach went to the skating rink with the church last Wednesday. They had a great time. Although, they didn’t really care for Dad being there as a chaperon. lol Zach was really sore the next day. I didn’t go, so I didn’t get any pictures.

I’m still trying to decide how much time we will take off for Christmas break. I used to like to take off the whole month of December. That worked out great when I had several youngers. Now that my last two are in 7th and 9th grades, they need the work time.  I told Zach on Monday that how hard he worked for the next two weeks will determine how much time he gets off. So far? Not much. lol Abby has been trying to work ahead to finish high school early, so I’ll have to check with her to see how she is progressing with the goals she set for herself.

For the past month or so, Abby has been using Simply Put: A Study in Economics for a review. We both like it, so she will be continue using it for her economics course. I’m giving away a copy of the Simply Put Economics Course – it ends at midnight 12/6! So head over and enter it!

And that’s Our Homeschool Week in Review. See you next week!

Our Homeschool Week in Review

November 16, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I bought some plywood to build a new desk in the school room. We won’t talk about how long ago I bought it, ok? lol  Calen, now 19 and a 2013 graduate from our homeschool, decided he was going to build it. He did a great job. He even drilled holes for all the wires to go through. The only problem is he nailed some of the legs to the wall. So much for pulling it out to paint or stain! lol I’ll just do it where it is, I guess. lol

It’s a long, low desk. The desk top is the height of the keyboard tray on our old computer desk to make it comfortable for typing and writing. There are three spots in the desk, so I will be able to get Abby and Zach working there with plenty of room for computers and books.

Here’s Abby working on her (affiliate link) Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1. Right now, the printer is taking up the middle section of the desk. We will be making a shelf for the printer to free up that spot. As soon as I buy more shelf brackets.

Abby has volleyball practice on Mondays and Thursdays. The lighting in the gym is horrible for the flash on my camera. But I love this picture that Hannah, 17 and a 2013 homeschool graduate, took of Abby. She really gets into volleyball. lol

She had her first volleyball game of the season on Tuesday. Unfortunately, they lost the  game 25-18 and 25-19. I took this picture after she got home from the game. She was in good spirits, even though they didn’t win, because the team they played was really good. Actually, she always has a good attitude when they don’t win a game.

She has in 3 games on Saturday. Should be fun. And tiring!

Make sure to stop by and enter to win the complete Jim Hodges Audio Book Collection. There will be TWO winners. These are all books that the whole family can enjoy. The giveaway ends on 11/18.

Our Homeschool Week in Review

November 1, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Well, this week has been another sick week here. Unfortunately, a stomach virus has paid a visit to our house. A couple of kids had to stay home from church Sunday. Then Monday, I was getting ready to take Abby to volleyball practice when my stomach starting bothering me. So I didn’t take her, which, of course, she was not happy about. However, volleyball practice is a thirty minute drive from home. So….no….lol

There was no band practice on Tuesday night, so that gave us sickies more time to recover. Wednesday night, Abby went with the the middle school/high school class from church to buy sneakers to donate to the local school kids.

Thursday, I managed to drive Abby to her coaches house to ride to volleyball practice. She plays on  a home school team, and none of the practices are in our town. Or in our county. Monday practice is in the town we go shopping in, about 30 minutes away. Thursday’s practice is about an hour away. So glad her coach lives only about 3 miles from us and will let her ride with him and his daughter!

So not a lot went on here this week. Abby and Zach did manage to get some school work done. Since Zach has been sick for about two weeks now, he has some to catch up on. We’re not taking a fall break until Thanksgiving week, so he’ll have plenty of time to catch up.

This week, I posted a review of Rosie’s Doll Clothes Patterns Video Course. it’s great for beginners ages 8 and up. And for those who already know how to sew that want to make doll clothes. Stop over and check it out.

Our Homeschool Week in Review

October 26, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

This week found me shuttling kids to doctor and dentist appointments, two volleyball practices, band practice, and church. Yes, it was as busy as it sounds! Friday & Saturday, Abby & Calen (already graduated from our homeschool) are playing with their band at a revival at a friends church.

Poor Zach is still not over his cold yet. He had me take this picture the other day, and said it was his sick look. Poor little dude.

Needless to say, he didn’t get all of his school work done this week. That’s ok, he’ll catch up.

I have a few things I want to share with you. A great book, a great sale, and a great opportunity!

A great book – Earlier this year, I reviewed A Cry From Egypt. Now A Cry From Egypt (The Promised Land) is available for the Kindle! This is a great Christian historical fiction book for kids.

A great sale –  at A Journey Through Learning, 40% off digital products! (excluding all GeoMatters products.) Now would be a great time to buy all the lapbooks you want to use for the rest of the school year. Simply click on the picture below to visit the sale.

Our Homeschool Week in Review

October 18, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

This week found me sick, and then the kids starting getting sick. sigh. The first official cold of the season, unfortunately.

Abby hasn’t got it yet, so she was able to go to her regular activities this week. Volleyball practice on Monday, band practice on Tuesday, church on Wednesday, CR on Thursday, and a church hay ride tonight, Friday. Oh, you noticed. She has something every night! Her parents are more tired from driving her around, then she is from all her activities. lol Thankfully, church is only about five minutes from our house!

Zach doesn’t have all the activities that Abby does. He made it to church Wednesday night, before catching the cold. He’s missing the hay ride tonight. Poor little dude. He loves the hay ride.

Not feeling well the last two days has afforded him more time for listing to the (affiliate link) Stories of the Pilgrims. This is our first time listening to it. It’s a great audio book. Full review coming soon!

I took my son Calen, 18, for his yearly childhood cancer survivor doctor visit today! we have to wait for the lab work to confirm that nothing is going on, but he is doing great. He was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2000, and finished treatments in December of 2003. It’s been almost 13 years since he was diagnosed! If you know someone that has a child with cancer, check out my Childhood Cancer page linked above.

Zach has been enjoying reading Top Story, the middle school edition of God’s World News. This is a great curriculum supplement. Check out my full review of  God’s World News.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
