Safe in His Arms – Book Review

February 2, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Safe in His Arms is Book 2 in the Under Texas Stars series.

Margaret suspects the new foreman on her father’s ranch is hiding something. Though Daniel promises she’s safe with him around, how can she be sure? Born and raised on a sprawling ranch in Texas, Margaret O’Brien prides herself on her competence as a rancher. She’s convinced she can do as good a job on the ranch as her brother who died in the war. But her father believes she’s made for more than just dawn-to-dusk work. He wants her to have the love of a good man, to have children, to build a life. But she gave up hope for such dreams years ago. The ranch is her life now. When Margaret’s father hires Daniel Cutler as a new foreman, she’s frustrated and suspicious. Daniel swears he’s turned over a new leaf and isn’t involved with the thieves he used to run with, but Margaret is unconvinced. When she finds out he’s an undercover Texas Ranger, sparks fly. Can she help Daniel extricate hisyounger brother who is still involved? And can Daniel convince her he’s the safe haven he’s promised for her heart?

MY REVIEW:

Margaret has spent her whole life working on her father’s ranch. She wants to continue working the ranch for the rest of her life. Margaret has given up the dream of a husband and family. Her father, however, still wants marriage and family for her. So he does something that Margaret never thought he would. He gives the ranch to someone else. To say that Margaret is hurt is putting it mildly. In the midst of her world being turned upside down, the new foreman that her father hired is acting suspicious. At least he is in Margaret’s eyes.

When strange things begin happening around the ranch, burglars, her father being attack, the new foreman Daniel promises to keep her safe. But can he?

Safe in His Arms is an entertaining read with a little something for everyone. faith, family, love, and action.

Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska – Book Review

January 30, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

About Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska:

Singer Ginny Marshall is one signature away from the recording contract of her dreams-a deal that would guarantee success for the former foster child, who still struggles to bury the memories of her painful childhood. But Ginny needs advice from the one person who will look out for her best interests-her former fiancé, Brett Miller. She travels to the remote town ofGlacier Bay, Alaska, where the town’s colorful characters and stunning scenery provide respite from LA’s pressures.
In Glacier Bay, Ginny discovers a box of old letters and is swept up in the love story between Clay, an early missionary to Alaska Territory, and Ellie, the woman who traveled there to be his children’s governess. When Ginny is reunited with Brett in Glacier Bay, will she discover-as Ellie did-that healing and love are sometimes found in the most unexpected places?

MY REVIEW:

Love Finds You in Glacier Bay is a great read! I’ve never been to Alaska, but my husband has. In fact, my mother in law spent quite a few years there while growing up. My husband still has family in Alaska. So I thoroughly enjoyed the Alaskan history, and the descriptions of the terrain.

Don’t get me wrong, Love Finds You in Glacier Bay is not an Alaska guidebook. It follows Ginny as her country music dreams are finally becoming a reality. Something is still missing, though. She just can’t pinpoint it. She travels to Alaska to seek the trusted opinion of her former fiance. While in Alaska, Ginny stays with his grandmother. A woman she grows to love during her short stay. While staying in Alaska, Ginny finds that the something missing from her life is God. After an abusive childhood, Ginny finds healing with God. Ginny also finds love in Alaska.

Love Finds You in Glacier Bay is a great, entertaining read full of history, love and more importantly, God’s love.

Abel’s Field DVD Review & Giveaway

January 24, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

About Abel’s Field

Left motherless by tragedy and abandoned by his father, high school senior Seth McArdle (Samuel Davis) faces enormous pressure as he strives to support his little sisters. At school, he endures the daily bullying of the football team. But fighting back only finds him singled out for punishment and assigned to an after-school work detail under the supervision of the reserved groundskeeper, Abel (SOUL SURFER’S Kevin Sorbo). Much to his surprise, Seth discovers that Abel may be the only one who truly understands his struggles. As dark times lure Seth toward desperate measures, the reluctant Abel may be the one person who can point him back toward the light.

Abel's Field

I watched Abel’s Field with my family and we all loved it. The character of Seth really drew me into the movie. Seth is taking care of his younger twin sisters alone, and he tries so hard to do the right thing. He goes to school, and works two jobs all while taking care of the girls. I felt so brokenhearted for Seth while watching the movie, he tries so hard to do the right thing. Yet no matter how hard he tries, nothing goes right for him.
After getting in trouble at school, his punishment is to work on the football field with Abel. Abel has has a history that he hasn’t shared with anyone. He hides his past from everyone, always moving before anyone finds out his secret. This time, instead of running, he stays to help Seth.

Abel’s Field is a great family movie. One that I’m sure we will be watching over and over again.

Unstoppable by Nick Vujicic Book Review

January 3, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I recently received a copy of Unstoppable by Nick Vujicic to review. I was glad for the chance to review his new book as I reviewed his first book, Life Without Limits in 2011.

While Life Without Limits is his biography, Unstoppable is a combination of his story and the stories of people he has met. Since Nick travels around the world speaking to large groups, he has the opportunity to meet many, many inspirational people.

Unstoppable

Read an excerpt from Unstoppable by Nick Vujicic

I loved Unstoppable! The author does an amazing job of combining his story with the stories of other inspirational people. There are many, many examples of people with disabilities, difficulties and tragedies in their lives overcoming these obstacles with God as their focus. Not only did they overcome their circumstances, they all went on to be shining examples of what God can do with someones life.

I highly recommend Unstoppable! There is nothing that can’t be done with God!

Where God Finds You – Review & Giveaway

December 14, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Where God Finds You is  Anita Higman’s new book from Standard Publishing. Where God Finds You takes you into the lives of 40 people from the Bible.

Where God Finds You

Here’s more about Where God Finds You:

“Have you ever longed to crawl into the pages of the Bible? To walk on the Judean hills or feel the spray of the Red Sea? To know what it’s like to confront a king or pour perfume on a Savior’s feet?

“In forty devotional tales, Where God Finds You breathes new life into ancient Bible characters. Through reflection on Scripture and prayer, you’ll discover a place in each of these lives of vulnerability, tenderness, truth and love – a place where you can find God….and where God finds you.”

Book excerpt:

I looked up from the spindle as a mystifying radiance spun its way into the room. It came into my presence like the falling of olive blossoms in the breeze, white and gleaming. Awestruck, I watched as the light took on the form of a creature of light!

I rose quickly, my heart bolting like that of a newborn lamb. I moved away from the light until my back pressed against the mud-brick wall. A faint sound, like a lyre, could be heard as if music radiated from his snowy robe. His face shone. Could it have been the lingering glow from being near the throne of the Almighty?

“Greetings,” the angel said. “You who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

I wanted to speak but could not. With tremulous hands I fingered my veil but did not lift it. What could this mean? What kind of greeting was this?

–From Chapter Three: Mary, Mother of Jesus

Included in this devotional are:  The Woman Who Touched His Cloak, The Man at Bethseda, Pilate’s Wife, The Woman Who Anointed His Feet, Noah’s Wife, The Woman of Samaria, and many more. Most of the devotions will take you 20-30 minutes, including answering all the questions.

Each of the forty devotionals are divided into four sections:

A fictionalized version of the story – the author has written the story filling in some details that are not mentioned in the scriptures.

The story from God’s Word – the Bible verses that the story is taken from. Not just listing the verses, but it has all the verses included in the book.

The story from then to now– the author helps us apply the lessons we learned from the previous sections to our lives. She tells us some about what the culture was like at the time our story takes place, and things that have happened in her own life.

Questions – each devotional has 5-7 questions. The questions are in depth questions to help you get the most from the devotion.

I found Where God Finds You to be a very nice devotional. The devotions were interesting and informative. The questions are not yes and no questions, but worded in a way to get you thinking about what you learned. Where God Finds You is a devotional for adults, but spiritually mature teens would benefit from it as well.

December 12, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I recently received two headbands from Haircoverings.com to review. Haircoverings.com carries everything you need to, well, cover your hair. Whether you cover your hair all the time, or are looking for something decorative like these headbands, Haircoverings.com has hundreds of selections. Their Feather Headbands are very fun and festive.  Haircoverings.com also has some beautiful holiday accessories to choose from. If you or someone you know is looking for hair loss coverings, you will also find a large selection of those.

Both of the headbands I received are hard headbands. This first one is entirely made of metal. It really beautiful and looks awesome in dark hair. I was concerned that my daughter wouldn’t like it because the band was metal. She not only liked it, but she found it comfortable to wear. This Silver Double Leaf headband sells for $5.99.

I do believe this second headband is my favorite. It is just absolutely gorgeous.

I received a white one, but this style comes in many different colors. It is beautiful and feminine.  The studs are bright and shiny. These pictures don’t really do it justice. This White Beautiful Thin Studded Headband sells for $4.99.
