This Artisan Beaded Necklace is a glass-bead necklace handmade in Thailand and can be worn several different ways — even as a multi-stranded bracelet.

Here’s a picture I took using it as a bracelet.  It really is gorgeous!

When worn as a single strand necklace, it’s about 22 inches long. I had it wrapped around my wrist 5 times, with plenty of room to spare. It was comfortable to wear, not too heavy. It also caught my daughters attention, “What’s that? What’s that??”   It is quite eye-catching.

This Christmas, consider sending gifts from the World Vision Gift Catalog

Help where it’s needed most … AND get a gift for yourself or someone you care about!

For more information, visit the World Vision website or follow World Vision on Facebook or World Vision Twitter.

Truth and Dare Devotional

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Ann Margret Hovsepian is a published author, freelance writer and editor and amateur artist. She has published more than 210 articles for dozens of Canadian and U.S. print periodicals and has become a sought-after author of pre-teen girls’ devotional books. She has published Blossom: The Complete New Testament for Girls (Thomas Nelson, 2006) and The One Year Designer Genes Devo (Tyndale, 2007). She speaks at conferences and events and is actively involved on the board of Canadian Baptist Women of Ontario and Quebec, Canada. Hovsepian resides in Montreal, Canada.

Visit the author’s website.

SHORT BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Is your pre-teen daughter ready for more—more excitement, more adventure, more joy? Then dare her to discover the secret to a life that sparkles for God. Show her she’s got what it takes to make an impact on the world. Ann Margret Hovsepian’s newest book, Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls, is designed for girls 9 to 12 and filled with powerful wisdom on everything from godly friendships to worshipping God.

It can be easy for young girls to neglect their Bible reading. Perhaps they feel Scripture doesn’t directly relate to them. Maybe they may lack encouragement or accountability, or they may just have too many distractions in their everyday lives. This lack of spiritual food can stunt girls’ spiritual growth and make them vulnerable to the temptations and ungodly influences around them. It can also prevent them from developing a love for Scripture early in life, making it even harder to get into God’s Word when they get older.

Truth and Dare encourages tween girls to discover how exciting God’s Word can be. They will see it make a difference in their daily lives and experience the blessings that come from doing it and not just hearing it. Daily challenges (dares) based on Scripture (truth) will provide opportunities for them to make their faith come alive as they learn to serve others, build character and make a difference.

Scripture will be transformed from something learned to something lived. Girls will delight in discovering how God’s Word can become real in whole new ways as they learn to apply it with each day’s dare. It ideally suits anyone looking to inspire a young girl to boldly live out her faith. So encourage the tween girl in your life to take the dare and discover the truth! It’s her time to shine as a girl who knows what it means to live a fierce and fearless life of faith.

My Review:

Truth and Dare is a one year devotional for pre-teen girls. Even though it was designed for pre-teen girls, I think it would work for young teen girls, also.

Each of the years worth of devotionals has 3 sections.

Truth – based on Bible verses with just a couple of written paragraphs to read.

Dare – each Dare section has activities for the girl to do – something to, something to pray for

Journaling – there are several lines at the bottom of each devotionals page for the girls to answer a question posed or to share their thoughts.

If your looking for a devotional for your daughter that will draw her deeper into God’s Word and to get her really thinking about it, try Truth And Dare Devotional for Girls.

Triple Dog Dare Devotional for Boys

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Jeremy V. Jones is an award-winning journalist who has served as senior associate editor of Breakaway magazine. He has authored several books, including Toward the Goal: The Kaka Story and The Keeper: The Tim Hoard Story. He also writes for magazines such as Clubhouse and Christianity Today. He resides with his wife and two children in Colorado.

SHORT BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Boys want action. They don’t want to sit around and talk—that’s for grown-ups and girls. They engage life and relationships by doing something: skateboarding, playing games or re-creating favorite movie scenes. So why should faith be any different? That’s why Jeremy V. Jones created Triple Dog Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Boys—to provide the action boys need in order to grow their faith.

The Bible is full of action. Remember how David slew Goliath, Daniel faced those lions, Paul survived a shipwreck and Jesus stood up for a woman about to be killed? God made boys to take His truth and do something with it, to man up and change the world. These action-packed devotions for boys ages 9 to 12 are filled with godly truth and bold spiritual challenges that transform time with God into the adventure of the day.

Triple Dog Dare connects God’s Word to boys’ hearts and hands with real-life scenarios and activities. Each day is filled with short Scriptures, concise biblical truth and a daily dare, all challenging them to put their faith into practice. Scripture readings from every book of the Bible open up the action-packed Word of God. Whether it’s drawing comic strips of biblical battles, dreaming up a life list of goals, making snack packs for the homeless or producing Bible-based movies, boys will go on daily dynamic experiences with God, taking faith off the page and setting it into motion. Themes cover the daily realities of pre-teen males, including bullying, peer pressure, girls, sibling rivalry, honesty and more.

These exciting devotions will inspire boys’ hearts toward godly characteristics such as integrity, generosity and kindness. Parents will appreciate watching Christ-like traits emerge as each dare is undertaken. It is a manual that will deepen boys’ friendships with Jesus as they look forward to spending time with Him every day. So if you know a boy who is up for the challenge, triple dog dare him!

My Review:

Triple Dog Dare is a one year devotional for boys ages 9-12. From reading it, I think many teen boys would gain a lot from using it also.

Every day’s devotional is divided into 3 sections:

Truth – based on Bible verses, it has just a few paragraphs to read.

Triple Dog Dare – 3 things for the boys to do. Make a list, pick a chapter in the Gospels to read, something to pray for.

Mission Accomplished – space at the end of each devotional for the boys to answer a question and write down their thoughts.

If your looking for a devotional for your son that will draw him deeper into God’s Word and to get him really thinking about it, try Triple Dog Dare Devotional.

About the book:
35-year-old Ava Andrews’ dream job is interrupted by an unusual request–fulfill her 84-year-old grandfather’s last wish by joining him on a battle site tour of Europe. Ava is sure her boss will refuse her request. But, instead, he gives her a directive of his own–to videotape the tour and send it back as mini-segments for the show she produces.
As if juggling these two things isn’t hard enough, Ava is soon surprised again … twice. First, Ava and Grandpa Jack arrive in Europe, only to discover the tour is cancelled. Unwilling to let down her grandfather or her boss, Ava and Grandpa Jack head out on their own. Then, while they’re on their way, the pair soon meet up with Paul, her grandpa’s best friend, and his grandson Dennis. The same Dennis who just happens to be Ava’s first love.
Before she knows it, Ava and Dennis are swept down memory lane as they visit the sites that are discussed in the history books. And even though Ava’s videotaping old soldiers, she can see their youth, their hopes and fears, and their pride in their eyes. Soon Ava learns the trip isn’t just for them … it’s for her too–especially for her heart.

MY REVIEW:

I really enjoyed reading Remembering You. The story of a woman who travels with her Grandfather and his war buddies on a battle site tour of Europe. Ava hadn’t spent much time with her Grandfather before leaving on this trip. In fact, she only agreed to go so she could gather stories for her tv show.

On the trip, however, she learns many things about her Grandfather that she didn’t know. And in the process, learns more about herself. She also reconnects with an old boyfriend, the grandson of her Grandfathers buddy. Due to their past, they got started off on the wrong foot for the trip, but soon are wrapped up in helping their Grandfathers. They soon start wondering if they can put the past behind them and face the future together.

Remembering You is a very touching story of World War 2 veterans returning to the battlefields they survived. The returning men are very believably portrayed as brave, yet caring men who did the best they could in a very bad situation, war. As they travel from battlefield to battlefield, they struggle with trying to make sure they did the right thing. And then realizing they did. They did do the right thing and see with their own eyes the difference they made in peoples lives.

Remembering You is a fiction book that has family, romance, history and heart warming re-unions.

FFH – One Silent Night – Review & Giveaway

November 21, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

FFH has released their first ever Christmas album!

Press Release for FFH:
(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Sept. 30, 2011– Best-selling pop group FFH will usher in the holiday season with its first Christmas album. One Silent Night, available Oct. 18, is a mix of original songs and Christmas classics.

Produced by FFH founding member Jeromy Deibler, One Silent Night has been four years in the making. Giving in to the persistent appeals of loyal fans, FFH has crafted a project worthy of your holiday music collection.

Listeners will recognize favorites like “Winter Wonderland,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” and “Jingle Bell Rock,” among others, while being introduced to new tracks including “The Birthday of a King,” “Glorious Impossible,” and “One Silent Night.”

Deibler comments, “We just feel blessed to be able to make this record and wanted to do the kind of Christmas music we like to listen to, something that’s not trendy but more of a classic style. For us Christmas is about remembering… slowing down to see what is important. And being reminded of the glorious impossible that was the birth of Christ. We hope this album reflects that desire and inspires others to do the same.”

FFH plans to support the album with singles “One Silent Night” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside” to radio Oct. 1 as well as select tour dates in November and December.

About FFH
Pop vocal group FFH has released thirteen projects, sold more than two million albums, and garnered 24 radio hits, including seven No. 1 singles and ten Top 5 radio singles. In addition to multiple Dove Award nominations, FFH has been recognized at the Inspirational Life Awards as well as the Billboard Music Video Awards. The group has performed more than 1000 dates since 2000 and continues to be a favorite on the tour circuit. FFH is also known for its work with the “Make-A-Wish Foundation,” Kurt Warner’s “First Things First Foundation,” and for its contributions to national ad campaigns for Coca Cola and IBM.

I love this Christmas album! In addition to several of everyone’s favorite Christmas songs, there are 3 new songs, “The Birthday of a King,” “Glorious Impossible,” and “One Silent Night.” I really love the chorus of One Silent Night:

One Silent Night
One Holy Night
When all was calm
When all was bright
With no one to kneel
And no one to see
Heaven came down
And changed everything.
Man on the earth
Receive her King.

The music on this album varies widely with something for everyone, from slow songs to fun, upbeat songs. My kids have enjoyed listening to this album with me. Even though it’s not even Thanksgiving yet. lol

FFH has their own You Tube Music Channel, but, alas, there are no songs from this new album. You can, however, listen to clips on iTunes

You can also visit FFH on their website, Facebook and Twitter.
Thanks to Propeller, I get to give away one download of their album. No cd, the winner will receive a special link and can then download the album to their computer. Just complete the Rafflecopter entry form below!

and the book:

40 Days to Better Living: Depression

Barbour Books (November 1, 2011)

***Special thanks to Audra Jennings – The B&B Media Group – for sending me a review copy.***

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

From the time Scott Morris was just a teenager, he knew he would do two things with his future—serve God and work with people. Growing up in Atlanta, he felt drawn to the Church and at the same time drawn to help others, even from a very young age. It was naturally intrinsic, then, that after completing his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia he went on to receive his M.Div. from Yale University and finally his M.D. at Emory University in 1983.

After completing his residency in family practice, Morris arrived in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1986 without knowing a soul, but determined to begin a health care ministry for the working poor. He promptly knocked on the doors of St. John’s Methodist Church and Methodist Hospital in Memphis inviting them to help, and then found an old house to refurbish and renovate. By the next year, the Church Health Center opened with one doctor—Dr. Scott Morris—and one nurse. They saw twelve patients the first day and Morris began living his mission to reclaim the Church’s biblical commitment to care for our bodies and spirits.

From the beginning, Morris saw each and every patient as a whole person, knowing that without giving careful attention to both the body and soul the person would not be truly well. So nine years after opening the Church Health Center, he opened its Hope & Healing Wellness Center. Today the Church Health Center has grown to become the largest faith-based clinic in the country of its type having cared for 60,000 patients of record without relying on government funding. The clinic handles more than 36,000 patient visits a year while the wellness center, which moved to its current 80,000-square-foot location on Union Avenue in 2000, serves more than 120,000 member visits each year. Fees are charged on a sliding scale based on income.
