Saturday on the Farm – Garden Pictures

June 7, 2014 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy 1 Comment

Last week, I shared flower pictures. This week, I’m sharing some of the edibles growing on the property.

The apple trees are covered in apples! I don’t know what variety this is, as my husband transplanted them from somewhere else on the property. They are not crab apples, but they are not red delicious. lol They are a little tart, and make good pies, jelly, applesauce, etc.

The chives are blooming with these beautiful edible flowers. I like to use them to decorate food with. They are especially nice on top of potato salad. Sprinkle the top with diced chives, then place a few flowers on top. People are always surprised that they can eat them.

The comfrey is coming up again. I used to have 12 plants, but I am down to four now. Not edible for humans, it makes great feed for chickens and goats, whether fresh or dried. Comfrey can also be used in herbal preparations or straight on the skin.

We have quite a few grapes on the vines this year. I only have two vines, but my father in law has more. He shares the grapes with us, and I give him back jelly. 🙂 Now to keep the birds away from them!

My husband and 19 year old son worked on the garden area where we planted green beans. They tightened up the fence, got rid of the weeds, and planted the green beans. Our green bean crop failed last year, because of a super wet spring. So we’re hoping for a big crop this year.

The oregano in the palette herb garden is getting big. It’s almost time to cut it.

I started with one peppermint plant, and now have more than I can use. lol It spreads like wildfire! It’s almost time to cut the peppermint for drying, too.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

John 3:16-17 NKJV
