Stand Up! Big Band Praise CD Review

July 6, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Stand Up! Big Band Praise J4082

I really loved listening to Stand Up! Big Band Praise.  It is such fun music to listen to, my whole family loves it.

I don’t think I’ve ever played big band music for my children before. I enjoyed introducing them to a new kind of music.

The songs on Stand Up! Big Band Praise are music only, no lyrics. That’s ok, with songs such as Just a Closer Walk with Thee, What a Friend We Have in Jesus, and God Will Take Care of You, you will know the words to some. Your kids will even recognize Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho, I know mine did.

The first time I put Stand Up! Big Band Praise in, the whole family gathered around to listen. One day, we turned this cd on while cleaning house. The lively music got us all working faster.  The big band style of music if great for just listening to, or for having on in the background while doing something more active.  This upbeat music would be great for walkers and runners, any form of exercise really.

I think this would also be great to play in the background when you have company over.  I’ll be trying it next time we do.

My whole family loved Stand Up! Big Band Praise and I think you will, too!

Strong Women

July 6, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I found this online and loved it:

Women today are called strong if they are controlling, manipulating, proud, mouth, independent-spirited and rebellious.

God says strong women are women of faith, virtue, honor, grace, humbleness and purity; women who love their husbands, love their children and are willing to pay a price to be women of God.  Are you  strong?

Oh, how I long to be the strong woman God wants me to be!

Reclaiming Heaven’s Covenant by Randy R. Butler

July 5, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Reclaiming Heaven’s Covenant
(Deep River Books, Sept. 2011)
written by Randy R. Butler
ISBN:1935265849

In a world dominated and defined by electronic relationships, here is a refreshing reminder that we can learn how to connect to those around us in a new way –  one that is out of this world! The key is the Covenant Renewal Model which comes as close as possible to bridging earth and heaven on this side of death. If applied properly, it can positively impact every area of your life.

MY REVIEW:
In Reclaiming Heaven’s Covenant, Randy Butler shares with us how a tragic event in his life led him to a closer relationship with God.
The Bible speaks of a covenant relationship with God in numerous places. This book helps us see why we need that covenant relationship with God, and ways to establish it.
One of the things I loved about this book was the footnotes on the page. Much easier to check then having to flip to the back of the book while reading.
Every chapter has questions at the end to help you accomplish what the chapter taught us about. I found these questions very challenging. In a good way.
One of the questions was “Do you have a spiritual plan? Spiritual goals?”
I  had never thought of my faith in terms of a plan or goals before.  I do believe that we should have a plan or set goals. Not for what we expect from God, but what we can do to draw closer to God. For example: spend so much time praying, so much time reading the Bible, doing work to help others, etc.
If  you are looking for ways to deepen your relationship with God, I recommend Reclaiming Heaven’s Covenant by Randy R. Butler.

White Bean Vanilla Cake

July 4, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I found this recipe for White Bean Vanilla Cake at Modern Alternative Mama. You really must try it!

White Bean Vanilla Cake

3 cups white beans, cooked and plain
9 tablespoons coconut oil (I used butter)
1 cup + 2 tablespoons raw honey
6 eggs
2 tablespoons vanilla
3/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on medium, then high until smooth. Pour into two well-greased 9″ pans and bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Once cooled, remove from the pans carefully and serve plain, with fresh jam (fruit blended with honey, fresh fruit or however you like!

As you can see from the pictures, I made cupcakes. They are so good! I have been making Black Bean Brownies, and I even tried a black bean chocolate cake once. I didn’t like the way the cake came out. But this White Bean Vanilla Cake came out great. I am so pleased with it. It will be nice for birthdays and holidays. I’m sure my kids will love it, too. I, however, am putting them in the freezer and will pull them out one at a time for me!

I have now made this recipe twice. The last time, I was out of honey, so I used white sugar. The consistency of the cake was still fine. However, the cake tasted much better made with honey. I did let my kids try these, and they really like them, too.

This recipe freezes well, too. I freeze in an ice cream bucket with wax paper between the layers. You can freeze frosted our unfrosted. I just pull out one cupcake at a time, defrost and eat.

What’s For Dinner?

July 4, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I haven’t posted a menu in a couple of weeks. Last week, we had Vacation Bible School at church. The serve a meal every night before it starts. So no need for me to cook!

The week before, I just didn’t get around to it. Not just posting it here, but making a menu at all. I find it very difficult to get supper on the table without a plan.

I didn’t used to be like that. I could just come up with something to serve. Since I’ve been sick, however, I have found if I don’t have a plan, we don’t eat as good.  Some days, the amount of time I can spend in the kitchen is limited. If I have a menu planned, I can work ahead to get everything ready. So if I have a day that I don’t fell well, I have everything ready to go. It makes it much easier on me, and my family gets better meals.

Planning a menu for me is really a must. So no more skipping planning for me!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
