Homeschool Assignment Sheet Organization

August 18, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Over the years, I’ve kept assignments and work logs in every way imaginable. We started homeschooling in 1991, with 6 kids that’s a lot of assignments!

I’ve tried it all. Lesson plan books with a column for each child, a log of work done as we did it, individual lesson plan books, and assignment sheets. All either written by hand, or done on the computer.

For the last few years, we’ve done assignment sheets printed from the computer.

The only drawback for assignment sheets for 4 kids, is the paper trail they leave all over the house. Let’s just say it’s huge. More like a paper mountain than a paper trail!

First we started keeping them in pocket folders, or file folders. That works very well, as long as the kids don’t drop their folders! And if they remember to put their assignment sheets back into the folders.

After many frustrating years, I came up with a solution. I’ve started stapling the assignment sheets to the folder. Something as simple as a couple of staples has made a huge difference.

No more assignment sheets all over the house! And no more lost assignment sheets!

Every week, I staple the new sheets on top of the old. When the folders get full, I will file them until the end of the year.

My homeschool mom life is now easier! And the kids school days go a lot smoother for them!

W.W.W. Wednesday – My Reading List

August 18, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

* What are you currently reading? –    Where The Red Fern Grows – Believe it or not, I have never read this book. I bought it for the kids, so I’m going to read it, too!

* What did you recently finish reading? – Becoming a Woman of Influence Making a Lasting Impact on Others by Carol Kent This book had a lot of information on how to influence people from a Christian perspective.

A favorite quote from the book:

“We don’t show compassion because someone in our life deserves it, earns it, merits it, or works for it. And if our hearts reflect an attitude of harshness, unforgiveness, criticism, judgement, hardness, or enmity – especially to those who have repented – we are not treating people as Jesus did. We may still influence them….but not in a way that edifies them or brings God glory!”

* What do you think you’ll read next? – I’ll Bring the Chocolate by Karen Porter  I love the name of this book! lol I’m looking forward to reading it.

In addition to reading the above books, this week I continued a Read the Bible in 90 days program. So that’s keeping me busy reading, also.

Bible in 90 Days – Week 7 Update

August 16, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

It’s the beginning of Week 7!

As of today, I’m caught up! I got behind again over the weekend so I had to read 2 days worth today. I love Psalms, though, so it wasn’t hard.

It took a lot longer then it should have, as I kept getting interrupted. Such is life. 🙂

I’m so excited to be reaching the halfway mark! The first time I read through the Bible, it took me about a year. To reach the halfway mark so soon amazes me!

Since I still have not been feeling well, I have lots of sitting down time to read. I’m thankful for the time to read the Bible in 90 Days.

I’m looking forward to this weeks reading!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie

August 16, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Last week, I helped the girls make a pie using a recipe I had written down form a tv program. It was easy for the girls to put together. We used a frozen pie crust that we defrosted & placed in our pie plate.
I was out of aluminum foil (gasp) so the crust got really brown. Yours will look prettier, I’m sure! We used mini chocolate chips, because that’s what we had. They did melt faster, though. I would recommend letting the butter cool sufficiently so the chips won’t melt. That would give the pie the appearance of a chocolate chip cookie.
No matter that our chips melted, this pie tastes just like a chocolate chip cookie! It was delicious!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie

1 9″ unbaked pie crust
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup walnuts or pecans
1 cup chocolate chips (or more)

In a bowl, mix the sugars, flour, beaten eggs, butter, vanilla. Stir in nuts & chocolate chips. Spread filling in unbaked crust.

Bake at 325 for 1 hour.

Can cool & freeze up to 3 months. Thaw & serve.

I think these would be great for pot luck dinners. I would love to have a few of these stashed in the freezer. Trouble is, if my family knows they’re in the freezer, they will eat them!  Maybe I can mark them “liver” and they won’t know they’re pies! lol

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
