Handmade Wall Display Rod
Curtain rods are so expensive, as are special rods for wall hangings. So when I needed a rod to hang my husbands prayer shawl on, I looked for a way to make one.
I had my son find a fairly straight tree branch, that had already fallen off the tree, and strip the bark off it. If you are going to cut a branch, you would need to let the wood dry out before sealing it. My son then sanded it, and put on a coat or two of clear sealer.
It came out very nice. I gave my husband the job of hanging the rod on the wall. He used twine. I like the way it looks.
You could make, or buy, inexpensive brackets to hold the rod, also.

Gentle Scrubber For Dishes and Pans
I learned this tip a long time ago, and use it quite often.
When your dishes or pans need a gentle scrubbing, put a sprinkle of baking soda on your cloth and scrub away.
It actually works on really tough jobs, also. I used yesterday on a roasting pan that has seen a lot of roasting. It scours off the baked on “stuff” without scratching the enamel finish.
Also, baking soda put on plastic food storage containers takes out any odors left from strong foods like onions.
A bonus is no strong cleaners on your hands. Or your dishes, for that matter.

The Book of Ruth – Movie Review & Giveaway
*This giveway has now ended! random.org picked number 11….Congratulations Joan! Thanks to everyone who entered! I will be doing more giveaways in the future. Keep your eye out!
I love the story of Ruth in the Bible.
How hard it must have been for Ruth to leave her family, friends, and everything she had ever known to follow Naomi to Bethlehem.
How hard it must have been for Naomi to lose her husband, and then both her sons.
How brave these women were to travel alone to Naomi’s home in Bethlehem.
How God honored Ruth’s faithfulness and love towards her mother-in-law.
How God used Ruth in the lineage of King David, and the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
This movie, The Book of Ruth – Journey of Faith is based on the book of Ruth in the Bible.
I thought it would be fun to get my 4 youngest children to give their opinions of the movie:
“It was good, it had too much drama.” Calen age 15
“It was weeeeesome” Hannah age 14
“It was so good, I had a dream about it last night. Seriously, I did. It was rockin’ cool.” Abigail age 11
“I like it. I liked when Ruth ran after Naomi and fell on her.” – Zachary age 9
Wasn’t that fun? You never know what kids are going to say, but I typed their comments as they were telling me, and they approved them before I published them.
Our whole family really did enjoy this movie. I would recommend it for your family, also. In fact, I just might give you one! Pure Flix sent me one to giveaway!
To enter this giveaway for your very own copy of The Book of Ruth, just leave a comment on this post. This giveaway will end on Friday April 30th at 11:59 pm. After which time, I will use random.org to choose the winner.

What’s For Dinner?
I have a new plan! Each day is assigned a category, whether it be a type of meal, or appliance used, for example: crockpot. I used to do this, and it made meal planing so much easier. since I’ve been so uninspired with meal planning lately, I’m hoping this will spice things up.
So, here’s my plan:
Saturday – beef
Sunday – Sandwich day – either simple sandwiches, or homemade sub sandwiches
Monday – chicken
Tuesday – beef
Wednesday – leftovers
Thursday – chicken
Friday – Friday Night Fire – will be anything and everything we can cook over the fire.
So, this is what this weeks menu looks like:
Saturday – Breakfast for Supper-I was tired and used french toast from freezer, along with eggs & english muffins
Sunday – chicken sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, potato salad, macaroni salad
Monday – baked chicken, baked potatoes, salad
Tuesday – Mexican night – Oldest son has some sort of Mexican style food he wants to cook
Wednesday – leftovers
Thursday – Chicken Potato Pie – From $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook
Friday – dinner out – leaving for State Bible Drill competition- Go Hannah!

Visit Pick Your Own.org to see if there are any pick your own fruits and vegetables farms near you.
There were none listed in my county, or in several counties around me.We do know of a place in the next county that we have been to a couple of times where we pick strawberries.
I plan on checking back this summer to see if there are any new listings for our area.
